Look out for the Hammock HOGS on Castaway Cay!

When my mom and I were on CC at the adult beach in April, we asked the meole next to us if we could use their hammock, and we explained that we would be more than happy to givew it up when they wated to use it.....THEY SAID NO!!!! and they didn't use the hammock for over two hours......instead, they had some "adult fun" in the water......

Nonetheless, we had great fun on CC.

DH is always first off the ship and gets us a hammock on the adult beach. We do use it a lot. We also tell whoever is sitting near us that they are welcome to use it when we are in the water or eating lunch. In four cruises, no one has ever taken us up on our offer. Guess they just must feel awkward about it.

I really feel a that Disney could help this situation by getting more hammocks. If I'm not mistaken there are only four of them on the adult beach. Not nearly enough.

Yes, sad enough - the chair hogs from the ship migrate to island.

That is a joke..... let's not now debate the difference between the ship's pool chair hoggers and the hammock hoggers - it is not fair to make such a wide judgemental assumption on any kind of chair hoggers! I'm just yoking with ya all! You should see my kitchen...... my kids are the biggest "best TV watching chair while I eat dinner hoggers" I've ever seen!

But don't let that scare you off. Grab a chair and take it to water!

We knew from the our last DCL cruise that we would enjoy a hammock if we were to get one. We also knew that it would not be used the entire time. We would always be in the water!

We offered everyone around us - we said - hey, if we are not in it - help yourselves! No one did. But we also used it alot but in no way were we using it the entire time! I think families should share - all the families around the hammock should share it. They are pretty cool.

Also, if you stick around - at about 2pm....... there are a lot of empty hammocks and it gets quiet and it's a great snooze time.

I don't know if the OP was on the 5/8 cruise, but I saw a man, sitting on a chair next to a hammock - never saw anyone in it. He was guarding it - but he could have been laying in it. I'm sure everyone was in the water!

It's fun when you share! You get to talk to other families and that is one of the best things - to get to know other people. I loved it when I would be taking a picture and someone would come up to offer to take one for us!

We originally had enough chairs saved for our family of 5 - we were way far down passed the jungle gym - and as we saw families come up later that morning I said - "here take ours - my kids are in the water!" Like my 11 year old is really going to lounge on a lounger! NOT! Like any of my kids will get out of the water to sun!

It's hard to imagine moving someone's stuff in a hammock and just sitting down in it. Because the hammock is usually grouped together with loungers and chairs. With all the family's stuff around it. So you could indeed move the stuff and lay in the hammock and you would THISCLOSE to the loungers and chairs with it. The hammocks don't move. That is why you can see the family who is using it or not.

Maybe they should consider isolating the hammocks like they did on a beach in Cozumel. It was mentioned that there would be hammocks on the beach in Cozumel and there were. But they were lined up at the back of the beach - in a row - no room for loungers, chairs, etc.

We had fun sharing everything around us (the umbrella is something also you can share, especially with people who may come late and have small babies). When the waiter came around and announced 2 for 1 Conk Coolers! We were all together on that deal! Not until then did a couple sit together on the hammock and they were swinging and talking to us and we got to know each other! We were sad that we had to leave!

Share and make friends! It's fun!

It may have been nearing the last hour and a half or so..... when there were a lot of people that had cleared out to get back to the ship. I knew I had an hour and more time left. But we had second seating and did not have lil cuddly ones to tend to so we hung out as long as we could talking to new friends.

The servers came down to the beach with a tray full yelling "Two for One". They did the same thing last year.

What I can gather from this thread:

1. There is no such thing as a Dis-Hammock-Hog or

2. Dis-Hammock-Hogs do not participate in threads like these or

3. There are some lying Dis-Hammock-Hogs

Just kidding folks. I KNOW the answer is #1.

Fortunately for us, we never feel the urge to use a hammock at CC!!?? Instead, we are the ones getting off the ship early to get an umbrella & chairs as close to the water as we can!! The only thing that bugs us is when people come in later in the day & move their chairs directly in front of ours!!??!! But oh well!!

On our last trip to CC (our 3rd!) we discovered the far end of the family beach, just behind a bathroom and before the bar...PERFECT spot!! Not too many people and being close to a bathroom with a 5 year old and a 1 year old was key!!

Can't believe I have to wait over a year to return!!

hmmm...I am going to have to look for that spot near the bathrooms.....it was a little walk with an 18 month old....

 Why do people think they own the hammock all day because they use it for a while?
Why not use it, and leave it, than someone else can do the same
::yes::
No one is really going to spend all day there, and never do anything else.. Use it leave it, share the hammocks! :Pinkbounc

Yes,good old siesta key is beautiful! I miss that beach very much.
Are you all going on December 4 cruise in December? We hope it is the one we are going on and the rest of the thread which is December 11.We were looking forward to hopefully meeting you and family.Let us know.
We have been on two Disney Wonder cruises, and I have never had the luxury of using a hammock.I know what you are talking about.Disney needs to put more hammocks out there or something.
Hope you are having a great weekend!

We got off the ship right away and moved two chairs right down near the water to watch my daughter build sand castles and play in the water...within 30 minutes a couple came and put their chairs right in front of us at the very edge of the water (we were pretty close so they had to actually go in the water to put theirs..) but the thing that got me was I could hear them saying "that guy just came and put his chair right in front of ours" and they were complaining to each other about it...I was like "HELLO what do you just think you did to us?????

Aprilgail2:

Same thing happens to us at the Jersey Shore - put your chairs to the water's edge to watch your kids and some family just plops themselves in front you -- practically in the water! And, of course, if you look around, there are plenty of other spots they could have gone to. I think it is a "wolf pack" mentality where they have to be as close to other people as possible! We've been in an empty movie theater and people come right up to our row and sit right next to us. Bewilders the dickens out of me!
