For years we have been Ap holders and have stayed many times at the on-site hotels at Dsineyland. We have 4 children 13, 11, 5 and 3. My 5 year old loves the Disneyland Hotel pool, and I admit it is my favorite as far as themeing is concerned. We have never had a problem with weather in early December either. I also love not having to walk accross Harbor Boulevard to get to the hotel from the park. The monorail is great too, when it's working right.
That being said I have been paying close attention to the HoJo comments on this board and people like DangerMouse and Bumpersnoot got me to thinking about the Entertainment rate. We were going down for 3 nights briefly for a marathon and 5k for my husband and daughter. I went for the cheap seats at 59 dollars a night.
Let me say I was very nervous when I pulled in to the parking lot because it is right by the freeway. It was noisy outside of the hotel for sure. Check in was fast they did not even ask to see our Entertainment card (which by the way is only good until November 1 so if you are going later order next years book) We were in building 2 pool view (with no water in it) But that is okay becuase it was to cold to swim. It would have been a nicer view but we didn't mind. The pool is 81/2 feet deep also. I don't know about you but my older kids thought that to be beneficial considering the Disney pools are all very shallow.
The room was very dated. But they had 4 pillows on each bed and the bedding was very comfortable. We never ran out of hot water in our bathroom, though the toilet needed some work done it still worked well enough. We did have a fridge also.
To compare fairly I have been in dated rooms with not so good working toilets at Disney.
We did not hear the street from inside our room, unless you opened the small balcony door. Even then it wasn't much.
The staff was terrific, very helpful, and accomodating. We left a stuffed rabbit in the room and they even mailed it home to us free of charge.
Well after our experience offsite, we have decided to stay at HoJo's again with the Entertainment rate and we splurged on the 74 rooms for the early holiday season. We just can't justify spending as much as it would cost our family even if we get another AP rate this time. And it makes it easier for other family members to go as well in our case.
Also crossing Harbor was not as scary as I thought it was going to be. HOJO's is very close to the parks.
Thanks for the Entertainemt Rate info. it was great.

Thanks for your post , I just booked with the ent. rate last night . After staying on site , off site can be scary .
