Long waits for furniture

We ordered furniture at the end of august and got it mid February. We had plans to redo our backyard last summer and they could never get their hands on wood so it didn’t get done. Firmed up plans for this year again, guy can’t get us in until august or September and said by that point we may not be able to get wood. Awesome. In the meantime I’ll pray my foot doesn’t go through the rotten stuff we are replacing.

We just moved into our newly built house. We still haven’t received all of our appliances. Some of our lights are still backordered, furniture hasn’t been delivered, and our windows are without blinds. Lots of delays due to COVID.

Is the delay in furniture because a lot of people have extra money because of covid or is there another reason? I know lots of people are hurting because of covid but lots of people have extra money because of covid.
Delays in production they have to keep social distance. Delays in shipping of parts for manufacturers to build final product. Delays on computer chips impacting cars, appliances, computers etc. It is multi-faceted on how many things are entwined right now causing these delays.

I am looking at replacing our dishwasher and fridge, pretty sure I am going to wait a little longer hoping to hear the supply chains get better first.

There are refrigerators out there if you aren’t married to a certain brand. Some are in stock and can be delivered tomorrow.

I needed a certain refrigerator - black stainless kitchenaid. None anywhere. I finally got on the email list for Lowe’s, so they would email me when some were in stock to be ordered. Got the order in in January for a May delivery. Actually showed up in March. Not too bad.

We have looked at several refrigerators and currently we are liking LG. Have considered Miele for the dishwasher but they normally have parts delays so I have taken it out of running.

Congratulations on the new house!!

Thank you! We sold our house and started clearing the land before COVID. Had I known what was in store for us, I never would have started. Too many delays and pricing has gone nuts. We ended up 100k over budget during a year when my husband lost his job and our business got shutdown. It was terribly stressful and my mental health still hasn’t recovered.

Even pre-covid there were sometimes ridiculous delays for furniture delivery. About 8 years ago I bought a new sofa and coffee table. I chose custom upholstery and expected it to take several months. It came in about five months.

But the coffee table took forever. I’d think that would be much quicker. It wasn’t anything fancy; just a standard cherry table. Furniture store kept apologizing and said manufacturer was having problems. It finally arrived after 11 months.

Sawmills are backlogged after shutting down last year. Good luck.

I saw signs in a furniture store I visited this weekend.

I’d go to IKEA right now, rather than deal with waiting.

Up to 9 months wait. We gave up and our home looks college style with Wayfair/Walmart furniture. Plus the kids, where youngest is going to be an adult in 2 years, can destroy the furniture we have now. Got tired of telling the teens to not eat on the sofa. Told DH we’ll get new when we’re empty nesters.

I was recently shopping for a new couch at the beginning of the year since ours had the side arm break. I was lucky and found a decent one in stock but everything I really wanted in January was showing deliveries anywhere from April to August then!

My DD has had issues with a sectional sofa she ordered. It was months to be delivered and the 2 sections were different styles and colors. It's been months again as she waits for the correct sofa.

We ordered a new sofa in early February that we were guaranteed was available at the manufacturer. They claim to have had trouble finding trucks to deliver it from the manufacturer to the store, we ended up picking it up at the store in early April when it came in, because their delivery was so backed up also and we wanted it in time for our moving van to take it to our new home.

Yep. Ordered a sofa in January that is supposed to be delivered in June, but I'll believe it when I see it. We didn't move, but all of the extra butt-in-seat time due to the pandemic killed off our previous one, which had been getting a bit worn. Now it's a full-on wreck, but still usable with a cover over it.

We also had our range and our W/D fail in the past few months. I had to repair the range myself (luckily it is gas, which is simpler), and we got amazingly lucky and were able to find a new laundry pair that we liked in stock locally.

Unfortunately so many factories in many industries have moved overseas and we are at the mercy of economy of other country, trade wars, transportation, etc. We need to go back to being a more self reliant country. Also provide jobs for non-professional workers.

We ordered a new dining room set and kitchen table and chairs in September. Got the dining room set in February and kitchen set in March!! These were ordered from the largest furniture stores in MA with so called “the best buying power“ according to the salesperson!!

The frustrating part is your credit card being charged immediately, being told it will 6 weeks for delivery but ends up 6 months later instead.

We lucked out about 2 months ago when shopping for a new living room set and power lift chair. Local place we hadn't ever even been in before, had just what we wanted, and in stock. It was delivered the next day, and they even took the old stuff away. Knock on wood, we haven't had to shop for a new stove yet, as Lowes is the only local place who carries them, and everytime I look, their stock is very low.

We're currently experiencing the joy of a complete kitchen remodeling. We started in January, and it's been like a Three Stooges movie so far.

The first thing that arrived (around March 1) was a cabinet from Mayfair. It was damaged, of course -- one leg broken off and the doors all messed up. Mayfair promptly refunded the ridiculous price and told us to keep it, and DD and I are still trying to get DW to use it for firewood. The thing is absolute junk -- super-cheap (talking 1/8 inch plywood cheap). I think we have her convinced that it could actually serve some useful purpose as a junk cabinet in the garage.

Our next drama was the cooktop. It was supposedly delivered with an exhaust piece, but turns out what was really delivered was our exhaust and the exhaust for a very nice couple in North Miami Beach. So two weeks later, our actual cooktop was delivered -- smashed. Supposedly...the trucking company is delivering a new cooktop and another mystery appliance tomorrow.

We shall see...

Good luck. I’m avoiding home stuff as much as possible. Prices are all jacked up. I’m hoping to find deals as people return to the office.
