Long trips- your job?

Kaylee,

Here's wishing you a wonderful vacation! You are lucky, and it's luck I'd take advantage of, year after year...

But tell me....where did you get that fancy countdown calendar?

Pat

My motto is "Life isn't worth living without vacations." I get three weeks of vacation plus 4 floating days a year. I usually do Disney Saturday to the following Sunday, so that I am only gone from work a week. But last year I discovered that I could be gone for nearly two weeks and, as miko said, no one was going to die. We have our annual user's conference in Orland and I took a few days of vacation before and a few after. Now, I was working in the middle, but I was out of the office and the daily stuff still got done. This is good because I have been telling everyone here for the last 4 years that in October of 2004 I am taking two straight weeks off (It's my birthday-that-shall-not-be-named Hoopla!). They usually encourage us to only take one week at a time, but others have done it, no one will die, and I've proven that I'm not THAT needed (I'm not sure that's a good thing, but if it means I'm on vacation, great!). I have my cell phone with me, but I let it go into voice mail if it is work. That way I can deem if it's really an emergency or they're just calling cause they know I'll have the answer and that's easier than figuring it out themselves. I do not like to be bugged on vacation, and I avoid bothering any of my employee's when they're on vacation. Emergencies only!

I am a staff accountant for a public accounting firm. I get 3 weeks of vacation plus one floating holiday (i can use it like a vacation day) per year. Not too bad for straight out of college. However, the catch is we can't take any vacation from 1/1-4/15, which is our busy season. That doesn't bother me too much though since I can only use my vacation over 8 months, it feels like I have more. Since our slowest time of the year is in the summer and fall, long vacations are not a problem. I am taking 2 1/2 weeks off next year for my wedding and honeymoon. Now, if only my pay was a little higher so I could actually afford to go away for all my vacation days...
