Being a long time lurker of the disboards I've always wanted to do a PTR/TR. Me and my family have been to DL at least 10 times in the past 12 years. This trip is going to be a little different than past trips. This will be my families first "real' family vacation without other family members. Normally we do Disney with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Don't get me wrong we've loved all those trips! Many of those trips wouldn't have happened without the grandparents funding them. BUT...this trip is extra special because of a few reasons it's our first trip with just the four of us and it's a surprise to our kids.

So let the planning begin!!! :thumbsup2

First off one of the main reasons I decided to finally do a PTR is I love to plan and my DH hates to plan. Since this trip is a surprise it's making it really hard to plan and not having the normal input from my kids to help with all the planning details. When I mention something to my DH he just thinks I'm over thinking the entire trip. Don't get me wrong there are some things I think should be go with the flow but a basic itinerary never hurt anyone! Plus my family is one of those that constantly fight over where were going to eat. Convo typically goes. What do you want to eat? I don't care me neither! Ok how about... No I don't want that....Pick anything else. Than an hour goes by and we still haven't had anything to eat. So for times like that I want to have choices set aside so I can say here's what's on the itinerary for the day. If they're not feeling it we can change plans before we get to that moment before the angry hungry person turns into the incredible hulk. Which is usually me.:lmao:

That being said I will introduce our cast of characters.
This was from our trip last year. We went for Thanksgiving and there were 8 of us there in total. This is us the only good picture with all of us.

Me: Heather (DW) The over planner, lover of all things Disney. I grew up going to Disneyland. My parents didn't have a lot of money growing up but they always found ways to take us to the most magical place on earth. A few times me and my brother even got to take friends (all expenses paid). I still have no idea how they pulled that off. I guess there was a reason we ate alot of beans growing up.

Stacy (DH) Kind of Anti Disney. Likes to not have a plan and go with the flow. It's true opposites do attract! After 18 years he sort of puts up with my family's Disney obsession. Although he thinks going to DL every year is way to much. Once he gets there he enjoys himself but getting him there is a battle in itself. This year is a little different. This trip was his idea and his idea to keep it a secret to surprise the kids. (Still not sure about the surprise) I don't like surprises I want to plan everything and have the kids help in all the planning.
The 3 loves of my life.

Kamryn (DS14) Loves all sports, his favorites are baseball & Nascar and also loves Disneyland. His first trip to DL he was 2. Taking him to DL/DCA makes me think he's still a little boy. He gets all excited and I love the non stop smile while we are there. His favorite rides are POC, SM & Screamin
My son hates to take pictures so usually they are with someone else or completely forced.

Haley (DD10) Hip Hop Haley or HayHay is what we call her. She loves to dance and sing and loves everything Disney. Pretty much her first trip was when I was 6months pregnant. Which I don't recommend! But her first official trip she was only 3 months practically right out of the womb. She went again at 2 and every year after that. In kindergarten she told a teacher she had three houses. Our's her Gma's and Disneyland. :rotfl2: Fav rides Peter pan & Alice & Wonderland.

Both my kids love every bit of the DL Vac planning. They have numerous books and videos they will read and watch over and over again until we leave. I've done something right ;);)

DETAILS....

When were going: Nov. 30th-Dec 6th. :yay:

We plan on getting 3 day park hoppers still trying to figure out if we would rather do 4 days in the park or maybe do US one of the days.

Where were staying: Stanford Inn & Suites. I got an amazing deal after taxes and everything $85.00 per night. The reviews were pretty good definitely not what were use to but I'm going in with an open mind. I couldn't justify spending almost $100 more just to stay at one of our favorites. We normally stay at Doubletree Garden Grove or the Hojo. I love both but Doubletree is our fav out of the 2. We don't mind driving and parking at Mickey/friends parking lot. We have parked here every time besides the 3x we've stayed onsite. Thanks to my amazing parents we have stayed at the PP & the DLH. Out of the two PP was our favorite. I really want to stay again but can't justify spending so much.

So far me and my DH have the 5th off. We plan on taking the kids to school just like any other day. However we will not be heading to work! We will come home and pack there bags get everything ready and take them out of school around noon.

SURPRISE!!! We're going to Disneyland! I imagine my kids will be jumping for joy! :yay::yay:

We were just at DL/DCA last Thanksgiving. Normally we plan a yearly trip but alot of health issues for my parents we didn't plan anything this year. My DB, DSIL & DN just got back from there family vaca in Aug. and my kids were envious of there cousin. All they have been talking about is how lucky she is and they wish they were able to go too.

I plan on having my parents meet us at the school so they can see the kids faces when they find out where we are going and to take there backpacks home so were not lugging them in the car with the rest of our stuff. Plus I'm sure they will want to send them off with hugs and kisses.

Next stop Wahoo's.....

Whenever we go on family trips to Cali our first stop is always our favorite restaurant Wahoo's. This is a family tradition even my bro & sil do this. When my bro was just there they sent us pics of there food via text and ever since I've been wanting to do a road trip. We've been eating here for the past 12 years. A friend that use to live in So Cal told us about it and now we are sort of addicted. Both my kids love asking for free stickers. We have a fridge in our garage covered in the many stickers we have accumulated over the years.

From there we plan on heading to our hotel and resting up for our long day on Friday.

More details to come....

I'm in! Can't wait to hear your kids' reaction. My favorite trip during childhood was the surprise trip my parents took us on to DL. Like you I enjoy planning and it would be very difficult not sharing the planning joy with the kids, but I think it will be worth it overall. I think the next trip for us may have to be a surprise one. I look forward to reading more!

Yay I have a follower!! I was worried I would be talking to myself. :rotfl: I'm glad to hear your favorite trip to DL was a surprise. Thanks for following along.

So we changed are dates. We are now going November 30th and returning home on December 5th. This all worked out for the best just so happens we needed to be home for some stuff going on the weekend of the 6/7th and we will now hopefully have a lot less crowds to deal with in the parks. Also because of Thanksgiving being the week before we will have a nice long vacation from work. 11 straight days off of work. Now if that wasn't a great reason to change are dates I don't know what is. YAY!

Because of our dates changing the surprise will be a little different. We won't be able to pack there bags while they are at school and pull them out and surprise them that way. Time to start thinking of an amazing way to reveal our vacation to them.

I think this week I'm going to purchase my photo pass plus. I'm so excited to be in the parks for four days and get lots of family pictures.

We are also going to do 1 character breakfast. I was totally up in the air on this since my kids are older but I think we are going to splurge and spend the extra to do at least one. We've done Surf's up and Goofy's kitchen in the past. We loved both for different reasons but there is something about Goofy's kitchen that every time we are at the parks and walk past I always wish we could eat there again. So leaning toward Goofy's for dinner. We've always done breakfast there but thought for a change we would try dinner.

Saturday November 30th Get up early drive to Cali.
Sunday Dec 1st First day in the parks
Mon Dec 2nd 2nd day in the parks
Tues Dec 3rd 3rd day in the parks
Wed Dec 4th last day in the parks
Thurs Dec 5th head home

My daughter has been talking about Disneyland a lot the past few days. Mostly because we have so many friends there because of fall break. She is super envious of them! My husband told the kids hopefully next October we would be able to afford to go if we start saving now, I thought she was going to start crying. Little does she know in less than 53 days we will be having our own magical vacation.

I found some of our photos from some of our previous trips so thought I would share some. Crazy how looking at old photos brings back memories from those trips. I so wish the days would go a little faster so we could be there already.

Even Adam decided to Join us....

OMGoodness... this is 100% our family too!! I am so glad to know we are not the only ones out there like this. It gets really bad when the extended family goes on vaca together. No on seems to care where or what we eat, but then they all turn down any and all suggestions! It's so bad that we put suggestions into a hat once, then all agreed to go with whatever is drawn and then all disagreed (except one person of course) to eat at the place drawn. :rotfl2:

9 times out of 10 it ends up with me dealing with the hungry grumpy DS's and DH hours later. Cue the Hulk Mama! ::yes::

It always comes down to me saying, then you must not be that hungry and eventully after the sulking we grab a corn dog or chimi.

Anyway...Here for the PTR and loving it. What a darling family!

Thanks for following along. So glad to know were not the only family that argues over food choices. I love your suggestion hat idea! Definitely going to use that the next time we find ourselves arguing over food. :thumbsup2

How fun! I am like you and love to plan everything and my BF sounds like your husband- an somewhatanti-disney nonplanner! It definitely makes for some interesting vacations!;)

:tinker:Wishing you lots of pixie dust on your trip!:tinker:

I'm starting to think my husband is getting excited! He is officially counting down the days til we go. :yay: Which is 32 days & 16 hours! :cool1:

We bought the city pass today through way.com. It ended up saving us $80.00 by buying it through way. :cheer2:

I also bought the photopass plus today. :thumbsup2

Totally getting excited I officially have vacationitis.

DD, DS, DN and Mickey. :wizard:

Following along too!

I'm also a Heather, who also has a not-so-in-love-with-Disney husband.

It's great to hear your DH is getting excited for your upcoming trip, there's hope for mine!!

I can't wait to hear how you surprise your kids. I WISH I could surprise my 3 nieces and my daughter with the trip we are taking this December! They already know about it; I just couldn't figure a way to do it as a surprise with four different school schedules and leaving from two different states. I'm trying to surprise them in other ways, I'm bringing a few strands of Christmas lights and small decos for the hotel room. We have a reservation for lunch and I ordered a birthday cake to be delivered to the Carnation Cafe for dessert. The cake is going to say "Very Merry Unbirthday" as a celebration of all their birthdays that we don't get to spend together. On our first Park day together, I'm going to have everyone pick out a hat (everyone needs a crazy hat!) to wear for our Unbirthday Party. I know my oldest niece, who is a Theater major will LOVE Aladdin, Fanatasmic!, Mickey & the Magical Map and World of Color. My niece who loves drawing and anime will love the Animation Academy and our youngest niece, the thrill-seeker, will FINALLY be able to ride some non-carnival type rides. (She's super excited about any ride that does something besides spin in a circle.) My daughter is planning to Disney Bound, as Rapunzel, Jack Skellington, Minnie Mouse and the Cheshire Cat. We'll be arriving the day after you come home, so I will be following your trip with excitement and anticipation!
Have a wonderful time!

Thanks for following along! I always love to hear that I'm not the only one with a hubby that's not a huge DL fan. I'm hoping this trip will be different and he will walk away from our vacation in love with all things DL. I'm hoping.... Let's hope I can pull off the surprise. I've almost spilled the beans a few times. Plus my daughter has sort of caught on so we told her we are planning to go sometime next year with my parents. I think it worked! I really do suck at keeping surprises, my husband actually made the comment that he was surprised the kids don't know yet and he had bets how long I would hold out before I told them. That in its self is making me hold out!!! :)

We're getting closer...Only 24 days left til we leave. :cheer2:

We bought the city pass & the PP+ last Monday and we received the city pass tickets in the mail on Friday and received the PP+ voucher yesterday. :mickeyjum:mickeyjum

The kids still have no clue...Well sort of. DD knows somethings up but, thinks we are going to Disneyland in January. So I just let her believe that. ;) My DS still has know clue.

Last night we were talking about day's they get off of school and they asked if we had Veterans day off and we told them our only time off this month would be 2 days off at Thanksgiving and than it's back to work the following Monday. Little do they know we get 11 straight days off. :jumping1:

So I'm really torn. We are going to upgrade our city pass to 4 day hoppers sometime after we arrive. The plan was to go to DL/DCA Sun, Mon, Wed & Thurs and US on Tues. But still not sure if going to US on Tuesday will be the best day. My DH wants to break up DL/DCA so we have a break in between. But I'm pretty sure we are going to lose are MM by upgrading because the only days we would be able to use it is Tuesday. Does anyone know if we upgrade to the 4 day will they give us a voucher for a MM on Thursday?

I can't believe in a little less than 3 days we will be on our way to Disneyland. I feel like I still have so much to do. I just know the next couple days will fly by especially since today I work all day and tomorrow will be spent with family. That will leave just Friday to try and get everything packed and ready. One slight problem is our kids still have no clue so it's going to be a little tricky packing with them around.

I seriously can't wait to see my kids faces. This has been one of the hardest secrets to keep but I know it will all be worth it when I see my kids expressions.

Here's a break down of our "plans". My husband still doesn't want to commit to anything. So these may end up changing as we go.

Sat. leaving the house around 7am. arrive around lunch time check out some shops at HB and have lunch, check into room than head to DTD

Sun. DL 8-11 DCA 8-10

Mon. US 10-5
