Yes, my coworker came to work with pink eye. First, we all asked her what the hell she was doing at work with a highly contagious affliction? She was stubborn and defensive, but we banded together and shunned her out of there. Alas, it was too late for me but I didn't know it yet.
The next couple days were spent packing, leaving a typed manifesto for the catsitter, and notifying everyone at work to look elsewhere for assistance during the next week. The night before we were up late, packing for DH.
Hit the road!:
I awoke on Sunday with my left eye swollen shut and matted. I called another coworker about 8 and shared my sad plight with her. I could not get in touch with my doctor, but luckily my coworker had a bottle of pink eye medicine, never opened, that she had gotten as a precaution when her baby had pink eye. After consulting with DH's mom, a nurse, who told us that pink eye is not contagious after 24 hours on the drops, we packed Purell in our backpacks and picked up the pink eye medicine. Then we hit the road!
On the way down, a giant Rubbermaid storage-box lid flew out of the back of a pickup truck (drive and load responsibly, people, please?) and hit the hood of my car, shattering into a million pieces. At this point, I decided maybe the trip was cursed. We pulled over, and luckily my hood was ok. But I was very nervous about the vacation from this point on. I am very low-maintenance on vacation in that it doesn't take much to make me happy--I am just so glad to be on one! But with pink eye AND a scary accident, I started to wonder if we were getting some bad omens.
Near Death Experience:
We stopped for gas in Florida, and my eye was really hurting. I never remembered pink eye hurting before, go figure. Around the time DH had pumped about $6.00 into my car, we both simultaneously realized that my engine was still on! I was so upset that I was shaking for several minutes. The trip was looking worse and worse, but it was obvious our guardian angels were working overtime. DH decided to drive, good move.
Swan arrival:
We loved the Swan at first sight. My DH liked it because it wasn't all Mickeyed-up and I loved it because it still seemed pretty Disney to me and was miles nicer than Holiday Inn Main Gate East, Orlando Worldgate, Travelodge,or the HoJo in BF Egypt that I'd stayed in on my last few visits. At the desk, DH asked the extremely nice CM, Harrison (wrote two letters about him when I got home!), if it was possible to get a King bed. We did not ask for an upgrade, just a King. He said he did have one, and explained the resort, the new extra magic hour program that had begun the week before, and the lay of the land.
With the allears special code, we had one upgrade up from a standard room to a water view included. But when we got to our room, we found Harrison had given us a resort view with balcony, in a room that was a few levels up from the upgrade we should have had!! Suddenly my pink eye wasn't so bad, and the two car incidents were behind us. We had a beautiful view of the Dolphin, the courtyard below with the swan statues and gardens, and the lake. Our room was 714, just in case you're curious. Wasn't that the nicest thing ever? And he didn't even make a big deal about it.
We popped over to Tubbi's for dinner (will post reviews on restaurant board later) and then walked down the Boardwalk. I just fell in love with that area then, but as I have said, I am easy to please. DH really liked it all, too, and felt we had made a good choice. It was all lit up and looked just liked you'd want a boardwalk to. The smell of popcorn and hotdogs (yum!) was wafting on the air and it was just really exciting to be there. But we were tired after our long drive, so we headed back to our room, watched the Survivor finale, and turned in.
Next Day: Epcot on the Agenda!

.
. I've had a bottle on my desk at all times since then. I'm glad to head that the Dolphin treated you nicely!
