Has anyone flown out of Long Island MAcarthur Airport (ISP). We live in CT but can't get a southwest flight out of Hartford, so we're thinking of driving the 2 hours to Long Island. I see it's small, but was wondering about parking and an inexpensive hotel to stay at for 1 night. thanks!!!:)

We fly out of there whenever we can. Parking is extremely convenient. $14 per day and it's a very easy walk to the terminal (although you could take a shuttle).

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend a hotel as I live so close I've never stayed at any of them. If you search for Ronkonkoma, NY on a travel site you should get some options.

airport is great. Small and convienent. Parking is $14 per day and right outside terminal. For hotel I have never stayed but try looking at holiday inn. It is right down the road from the airport

There is also a Hampton Inn in islandia that is pretty close...about 5 miles away.

thanks everyone! Our flight is at 6 am, so I'm wondering if we should stay overnight and park car at the hotel. Some hotels offer shuttle - but the times look limited.

If parking at airport - do you need to make prior reservation?

Look for a park n fly rate. HI is the closest. Also check Hilton Garden.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried JetBlue from BDL? We live about 30 minutes from ISP and are flying JetBlue from BDL for our March trip.

We have travel vouchers from Southwest and rapid reward points - so if I can get decent flights, then I don't have to pay for all 3 of our flights. So, I didn't look into JetBlue this time. It stinks because we're only 35 mins from BDL! But free flights are free flights

There is also a La Quinta nearby. I live in the area so cant say how it is.

It's the only airport we use when going to Disney.
We came home 2 weeks, landed, got our luggage while DH went to get the car. He pulled up and we were in the car going home all within 30 minutes.

I don't care what the rates are compared to Jetblue, the convenience of the airport is fantastic!

SO glad to hear this! I was worried that parking would be bad like at Westchester Airport. We decided to skip an overnight hotel stay & park at the airport. Thanks for all the feedback!!!!

I'm confused on what the problem is. We regulary fly Southwest out of Hartford to Orlando. They are usually direct flights as well. You have to book through the soutwest website though. Southwest flights don't show up on places like expedia or orbitz.

globalairportparking offers offsite parking at HI go ISP for around $8. per night. Book on globAL website

We love that advantage also. Being home in less than 30 minutes from getting off the plane is great. We live less than 10 minutes from MacArthur and it really is a fantastic "small" airport. Since the expansion for Southwest was built, we really became spoiled.

On a side note, if you live in the Town of Islip, you can get a long term parking permit, good for one year for $20. DH drops me off in front of the terminal to check in and parks down on the other side so when we return he just takes a short walk over to the car and drives around. "Luv" that airport!

$20 is great! I didnt know about the permit but we live in Nassaiu County.
Still spoiled by the awesome airport, I hope it always remains small. :)
