Long hair

I have super short hair and love it! I would NEVER go back to long. I don't ask anyones "permission" nor do I ask/care about "approval".......my hair is short for ME! If someone else does not like it......too bad!
Sounds like me. I had short hair for many, many years. I let it get what I considered long & had it it many longer styles for about 3 years. Last hair cut 2 weeks I finally decided to go back to my short hair. I couldn't be happier.

It's easier to take care of & it looks so much nicer on me. With longer hair every day was a hassle to get my hair to look the way I wanted it to.

I'm not sure my DH was over thrilled that I went back to short, but I did it for myself, not anyone else.

I admit to this being stereotyping on my part, but I'd say it's because you are in Mexico. At least in Texas, very few Hispanic women under I'd guess age 40 seem to have short hair. So I can only guess that it's a cultural thing.

But from what I've noticed around here, too, is that most non-Hispanic women over traditional college-age have their hair cut to shoulder length or above. Again, stereotyping, but Asian women, who also tend to have dark, straight hair, often wear it short, and they always look very stylish. African American women also usually look especially stylish when they have shorter hair.

But I just don't generally like long hair unless it's in a Pantene ad or on someone with absolutely spectacular hair. It totally grosses me out to find long hairs on people's bathroom floor, in public restroom sinks, worn that way by people who are serving or cooking my food, etc. It's all personal preference, but to me short hair just looks much more kempt and stylish.

My hair has been long since I was about 8 or 9. Right now it's right around my bra strap which is as long as I'll wear it. I'm in university and it's kind of like my security blanket! It's naturally wavy but I would say I straighten it about half the time. Sometimes it's a pain to take care of but I don't like the way I look with short hair so... I keep up with it!

My mom is turning 51 this year and her hair is around her shoulders. I think she looks GREAT.:thumbsup2

It took me 3 years to get my short hair to shoulder length. Then after Disney last year, I had a hair growth spurt. I think it was due to the change in water. I'm 44 and I'm not cutting it again until I'm sick of it.

Here in NM, it seems that more women have short hair (that mom-bob is still popular) than long hair.

Well, yes and no. For the lower class, long hair has pretty much always been the norm. But until recently the middle and upper class here was pretty well divided about 50 / 50 on long and short hair. In the past year or so, it just seems like everyone is going with long hair.
I'm just wondering if that's a trend that is also in the states, or if it's just more of a Mexican trend. Normally Mexico City follows what the states do (at least among the middle and upper classes), though sometimes a few months later.
Again, I am in no way saying one style is better than the other (even though I personally prefer the longer hair), but just wondering how prevalent it is right now.

LOL I just cut my hair a week ago, before I got it cut it was loooong, halfway between my bra strap and my booty. DBF likes it long but he isn't the one who has to deal with it so I cut it. LOL It was long for over a year with long layers in it but I was tired of it, I wanted something shorter and flirty so I cut it. :) It's still long, just below my shoulders and I had major layers added in. :) I LOVE it, it's super easy to take care of, washing it takes half the time, styling is nothing and it looks good! DBF likes it too. :) It seems like I trend the opposite of everyone else hair wise, when everyone else goes short I got long, and when everyone else goes long I go short. LOL

I could stop coloring it and have long white hair...

It would probably look amazing.

I don't pay attention to what others are doing with their hair. Right now I'm in the growing process, but I'm remembering why I cut it off. It *looks* spectacular. It *feels* like crud, b/c I'm really hard on myself, even when I KNOW I have nice hair. So it ends up in a bun or a ponytail. At least with shorter hair i can't take that shortcut, so it generally looks nicer than the typical day with longer hair!

I've started to wonder if real hair can be made into extensions, and if extensions can be made reusable. If yes to both, I keep thinking about growing my hair long, having it cut, made into reusable extensions, and then just throwing them on my head when I feel like having long hair!

I have a funny feeling it's a NO to both, but still, I think about it...

Long or short the most important thing is to actually have a style to your hair and trim your dead ends! I cannot stand seeing long hair where the last 6 inches is all dried split ends. It looks gross. You cannot repair split ends. They have to be cut off. Healthy hair looks nice. Fried hair- not so much. It cheapens your whole look. Some short styles look so amazing and some long styles look amazing. Having your hair parted in the middle ala Marcia Brady is not cute on anyone and having a roller set is not something that most people look great in that are not senior citizens. JMHO.

I've worn my hair very short since I was in my late 20's.. I much prefer short hair because there's not a lot of "fussing" involved; it dries faster; and in my case, I think it looks much better on me..

And you have just reminded me that I am long overdue for a cut!!

I like long hair in general. Ironically, the women who can best pull off short hair are really pretty and young.

Many wealthy Mexican families have moved to my town in the past few years and we have noticed "a look" that is common among the women. I swear, they never leave the house without being made up to perfection, even if they are in "casual" clothes. The casual clothes will be jeans that cost a few hundred dollars, a purse worth several times as much, heels soooooo high it's unbelievable and makeup and hair in perfect order. Regarding the hair, it is ALWAYS long and "done".....Styled, blown out or something. The alternate hairstyle is an almost severe, verging on slicked back pony tail. Not a casual pony pulled back in a scrunchy as you head out the door......No, these ponies are worthy of a magazine cover. Wisps of hair do not DARE escape from them. "The look" is almost like a uniform and is easy to spot.

For them, long hair, high heels, and perfection is the rule.

Among Anglo women where I live, I'd say longer hair is more common, but not the only style you see. It's an affluent town with lots of SAHMs, many of whom are spending a small fortume on plastic surgery. :lmao: If everything else has been upgraded to make you look young, odds are the hair will stay long to keep up appearances. :rotfl2: For what it's worth, my hair is longish, but all my parts are original. I'm a rebel around here. ;)
