Has anyone ordered and received a LONG FORM Birth Certificate. I just received mine and all it is a photocopy of my initial birth registration(handwritten) which has been stamped and authorized by the Office of the Registrar General. ( Is this right?:confused3 )

Has anyone used a LONG FORM Birth Certificate for themselves or their kids as I.D. for travel. Is it the same as using the short form (which BTW Passport Canada is in possession of.)

My DD's have one and it's black and is an original of the registration of their birth, handwritten by me. Have never used it for travel but I am sure you could, Just an awkward size to tote around!

Yes, you can use it. I had it with me last week when I crossed over. I used my infants expired passport for ID and they didn't ask for the BC. I had it just incase.

We had to get the long form BC for our oldest DD as she was born before the wife and I were married so it was needed to get her a passport.

I'm in B.C. and our long-form BC is really a birth certificate, not our hand-written registration form.

In Nova Scotia there are actually THREE forms: short-form wallet-size, which doesn't list parents' names; long-form, which is a full page and includes the parents' names; and the "record of live birth," which is the page you filled in and sent in to register your child. It includes interesting info like how many pregnancies the mom has had and how old the parents were when the baby was born!

Sounds like maybe some provinces don't have all three forms? Seriously, as long as your copy of the long-form/record of live birth has the seal or certification that it comes from the provincial Office of Vital Statistics and is a "true record of the copy on file," it should be okay. But you might want to give a shout to the office you got it from to confirm whether this is the long-form birth certificate.

thats what i had to use to get my dd's passport.i was surprised that was the long form but it is.

Yes. It looks so unofficial and I thought," I paid $35.00 each for these."
I phoned and they are indeed the long form birth certificates.

Yep, I had to pay my $35 so I could get my DD passport. They wouldn't believe I was a single mom and I had to prove it!!!! I haven't had to use it for i.d. yet but I think I will start taking it across the border with me just in case.
:tinker:

I got it for whenever I get my kids passports PLUS the main reason I got it was I am getting my kids Birth Abroad Papers (for the US) as thier dad is American and they are intitled to get Dual Citizenship

I had to order them too because my son was born before we were married. They also recommended the long form for our other son. They prefer the long form regardless. One reason being is that both parents info/signatures appear on the forms.

i am going to use my dd's as id just because it cost so much for something i filled out in the first place

I went to get our passports today and found out my dd needed the long form for her id as she was born before my hubby and I were married. I went to vital statistics and had to pay $60 for 24h service or it would take 6 weeks to get it and still cost $25. The passport office is holding her passport application and I just have to fax in the long birth cert. tommorow. At least I don't have to go back down there though. BTW the wait at the Winnipeg location was less than an hour. (we got there about 8:10)

I needed my DD long form birth certificate to get my daughter's passport as well. Passport Canada requires this if children are born out of wedlock as the nice:eek: lady at the office likes to keep saying over and over and over....
The office also stated though that if you don't have a passport for your children it would be good to bring this with you especially if surnames are all different. My daughter does not have my last name.
