Long Distance Baby Shower

I have a friend who is pregnant with her first and I am planning her baby shower. She has a lot of friends here in Hawaii, but her family is scattered all over the U.S. so there is no way they would be able to attend or be able to have a family baby shower for her. She is extremely close with her parents and siblings (5 married sisters and 1 unmarried brother) and I really want them to feel like they are involved in some way. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to let them be involved? I would do something like Skype or web cam and just set up a day and time, but her family lives anywhere from Florida, Georgia, Idaho, and several places in between and have family obligations of their own. Anyone have experience with this or any ideas on how to make this work?

Thanks!

we are invited to a long distance baby shower and I told the gramma to be to video tape it for all of the ones that REALLY want to be there and would send a gift anyways....its like the people they would invite are the ones that are so excited and want to be included....they will tape it and then make copies on dvds and then send them to us ...

A dear friend of mine lives in TN and most of her family is here in IN.

When she and her husband were expecting, her best friend set up a party and made arrangements for the mom-to-be to Skype into the party here, since they were unable to travel.

That is most likely going to be your best option.

Is there anyone who could do a video of the shower to send to her family after it's all over?

How about you tell the long distance family to send a video or a letter to play/read at the party along with the gift.

That way when you open the person's gift, you play the video or read the letter. I think that would make it more personal for the mom to be.:goodvibes

I would set up a video conference so they can "be" there. It wouldn't be any different then if they were down the road as far as family commitments, etc. If they want to be there they will. Just set up the date and time and send out invites with the video conference info. If she is that close to her family, they will make it work out on their end. That is not up to you to do for them, really. Keep in mind you will NEVER find a date/time that will work for everyone. Give enough notice and it can work for most people.
