Long Beach/Seal Beach or ANY beach....

Need some recommendations of something in the long beach area (or anywhere else near a beach in the orange county/lax area that is CLEAN and cheap! I have seen a few websites and all looks good, and rate is good ($49-60), then on tripadvisor everyone talks of roaches. Friends on a budget, and need some kind of little and clean mom & pop motel for 2 nights. Any suggestions?

How close to a beach do you want to be? Try the Hyatt in Long Beach through TripAdvisor or Expedia & see if you can get a good rate there.

I don't know of any smaller places in those particular areas.

The Seal Beach B&B is Nice. There is also an Aryers there though not so cheap. The Raddison in Seal Beach was nice but it changed its name. Friends stayed there recently and said it was nice but nothing special.

Do you want to be ON the beach or just close to it? - and what is the furthest you want to stay away from the beach?

Seal Beach is a much better beach than Long Beach - waves, surfers, etc. Long Beach has a wave breaker (because of the port) so you won't have much waves or surfers there.

If you are thinking nice paradise-like beach area where you will lay out, etc. - do not stay in Long Beach. Long Beach is essentially a harbor area and a very busy urban port. For the most beautiful beach areas in Orange County, go with Huntington Beach, Newport Beach or Laguna Beach. Laguna Beach is the furthest south and furthest from D-land, but it is really really nice. Newport has great shopping and great beaches. You are likely to find the most affordable places to stay near Huntington.
