We always fly into OC, but I see a cheaper flight on Jet Blue into Long Beach. Does anybody have any experience with this airport? How far is it from DLR? And is it as convenient as flying in and out of SNA? This would alos be our first time using Jet Blue. Is it a good choice?
Thanks for any info you can give me.

I used both SNA and Long Beach on my March trip, I thought both were nice, no traffic and the distance was the same to DL. The only thing I didn't like about Long Beach is I thought it was boring, we got there way to early and there's nothing to do in the airport because it's so small.

Tina, LGB is a great little airport. They don't have jet ways, you have to deplane using stairs. It's cool in a retro kind of way. Will you be taking a cab to the hotel? It's a few more dollars than the SNA flat rate.

Thanks to both of you for the quick feedback!
Callie, your description reminds me of the airport in Bullhead City, AZ. We'd fly in there when Marty's grandma and aunts were living out "The Golden Girls" in Laughlin.
We might actually rent a car, because the day we fly in we will be going to see our boyfriend do his Elvis show in Fullerton, so that would be two cab fares in one day. Combine that with the cab ride back to the airport, and I could probably rent a car for the same $ or less.

Really? for some reason, i thought long beach was farther away from DL than SNA? They're about the same distance from DL? :confused3

We absolutely LOVE Long Beach Airport! It is still the same way it was 50 - 60 years ago! It is very charming and NO hassles! Yes, it is small and there isn't a Burger King or a Starbucks, but it is quick and easy. The rental cars are about 75 feet from baggage claim.

There is a great restaurant upstairs that overlooks the runway. The food is really good.

For us, we want to be in an out of the airport ASAP so we can get to Disneyland!

We are going tomorrow morning and will fly into Long Beach. Our flight leaves 7:00 a.m. Hope to be in the park by noon!:goodvibes

I don't know, it felt the same to me. I guess I wasn't really pay to much attention, just ready to come home...I had two little kids with me alone.:)

Did some research, yes LGB is 26 minutes away and SNA is 17 minutes , according to google maps.

Here's a map that lets you see the airport locations and how far they are from DLR.

Alaska Airlines put the mileage at 12 miles, SNA, and 14 miles, LGB.

I have read that you can get the same $40 flat rate taxi ride from the airport to the DL area hotels. Return trip tends to run $50-55, unless your hotel has coupons available for the flat fee on the return trip.

The only disadvantage of LGB is that shuttles cost more from there. But if you are renting a car, I've read that it's very convenient; as PP said, the rentals are right there. Also read that it's very easy to get to DL from there, straight shot out on Katella the whole way, somebody said.

Haven't been there myself, although DH has flown into there many times for business and likes it. We were going to fly into there this next trip, but Alaska Airlines did a glitch in the scheduling, and when I complained, they agreed to let us fly into SNA for the same price. Cheaper Super Shuttle fares for us! :cool1:

Yes, straight shot. Hopefully this Mapquest map persists. It's actually Wardlow Road out of LGB, then the street changes name to Ball Road when you cross into Orange County. Hang a right on Disneyland Drive or Harbor Blvd, depending on where you're staying.

We love LB airport and Jet Blue. We always use it when we fly from Oakland!
