I just booked a trip to DL with flights going to/from Long Beach. We haven't used this airport before, so have a few questions. Please chime in with any answers or other tips you have!

1. ARRIVAL/TRANSPORTATION TO DL: I'm thinking my family of 4 will get a cab to DL. I've heard it's more cost effective than using the Shuttle, and more convenient.

Do I need to make prior arrangements for a cab to pick us up, or are they waiting at the airport? Any tips or information on rates? I'm guessing it will cost $40 - 50?

2. DEPARTURE: How early do we need to arrive at the airport (before our flight time)? The airport's website recommends 1.5 hours prior to departure, is that what you do?

3. FOOD: Does the airport have restaurants or some kind of food vendors? I think at least one of our flights is near a mealtime, so I imagine my little ones would prefer a meal if possible.

4. Anything else I should know?

Thanks!

It's a tiny airport which I actually enjoy. There are no jetways, you deplane by stairway.

There are cabs at the airport just waiting to wisk you away to DLR! And yes, you'll pay between $40-$50 incl. tip. Make sure you get a flat rate on your return trip, as most drivers will want to charge you mileage since they are not under contract with the airport.

The airport is small. I honestly recall just a tiny little snack bar/concession stand type thing that sells some odds and ends, but no real food.

I always call my airline ahead of time when leaving DLR and make sure my flight is on time. Then I would be good with being there 45-60 min ahead of time. Like I said, TINY airport, so no real need to get there super early.

I'm flying in and out of there too so thanks for the info.

If you know anything about the car rentals in or near LGB, I'd love to know what my best bet would be.

I'm going with budget.. with my costco discount, and a coupon, it is costing me about $140. for 5 days. Thats a midsized car, but the price difference between the sizes isnt much.

Oh...LB is our favorite airport to fly into and out of when we go to Disney. Fortunately, it's also the cheapest from Seattle!! It is a wonderfully small airport so it's pretty easy getting through security and to your gate, which there are only 4 or maybe 6 of, all in different corners of the same rectangular building:goodvibes.

This being said, there is a small snackbar/travelers store in the terminal waiting area itself. Before you go to the gates, if you go upstairs there is a small restaurant that serves a decent breakfast at a reasonable price. We ate there a few years ago on a day we had too much time before our flight and it was nice. I believe there is also an open air coffee stand out front near the one baggage carousel.

We have always taken a shuttle from LB to our hotel (usually BWPPI) and it's run about $110 round trip, depending on which shuttle company we use. I think that when we go in December we will give the taxi a try since I keep reading that it's only $45 flat to the Disney area....and I am going to try and get them to stop at a grocery for a quick trip in for milk, bagels and cream cheese. Hope I can still do it for a flat fee!!

Enjoy your trip, and enjoy the nice smallness and simplicity of LBG!!:thumbsup2

Silly me!! I didn't even bother to see that this post is several years old...guess the info is a bit late by now!! But all the same, we still love LGB!!:rolleyes1

Huge help, though! We'll be leaving from LGB on an upcoming trip and this was all terrific information to have! Hard that this section on the Dis doesn't have the same categories of information as the WDW side, so it's great to have all the topics come up through here--

We use long beach....and priceline to rent a car...I think we paid around 250 for 11 days of a standard rental car. We will be there in Oct.

Also, there is a small restuarant/bar there that costs a fortune so don't eat there.

Ditto, flying into LGB next month and your bumping this helped me out :)

LOVE Long Beach Airport! SOOO much easier than LAX. Just flew back on Tuesday from DLR to Washington Dulles on Jet Blue. Dropped off our Enterprise rental in the parking lot. Walked about 50 yards and into the terminal. Walked right up to check our bag-FREE on JB. Two people ahead of us in the security line. What a breeze compared to the large airports. :thumbsup2
