London Trip Advice/Tips, Safety Points

Thanks Carol, it is good to hear from people on here that trips have been fine down there. As I said I was quite shocked at how bad the trip website I looked had, had so many negative/worrying comments from people.

We are very much looking forward to seeing the sights. It has been about 20 years since we went down and the kids have never been down. Thank you all for your tips and suggestions, as always it is handy to have advice from people who have been somewhere.:goodvibes

I should add that its difficult trying to do too much, Like WDW theres tons to do so try and prioritise, we're spending all next saturday in the british museum, we have spent whole days in the natural history museum before and have also spent whole days just wandering around taking in the sights, I'd recommend at least half a day for covent garden alone, its nice to just sit with a drink and watch the street entertainment without rushing.
Having said all that whats the betting we get mugged nest week?

Thanks Carol, we fancy those museums you mention and intend going once we have seen the sights for the day. There is so much to do down there. I appreciate your comments and am reassured that London is quite the 'bad' place it is portrayed to be. Touch wood everything will be fine for both our visits.:)

What website is this? I've travelled solo round London many times and also with my son, we've never had a problem. I'm not saying there isn't crime or violence in London but certainly not to the degree that you've been reading. I've certainly never experienced anything bad.

We we're there last weekend with our 2 DD's aged 8 & 6, everything was fine we stayed at our friends house out in Chelmsford, and travelled into central London via train & underground without any problems with our railcards that allowed us to hop and off as many underground trains as we needed!, we did the London Duck Tours and the London Eye which were both very good!, we ate at the rainforest Cafe which was ok but a bit pricey  , and definately not as good as WDW  .

What website is this?

Mainly virtualtourist and travel.ciao, plus Googled for tips on London and other sites came up.

Thanks Chek, definitely fancy the London Eye, fancied Rainforest Cafe as youngest son just been to the one at DLP with college and he loved it.

Just to let you know about the Rainforest cafe, the menu is very limited not as vast as the one we're used to seeing at WDW, and also much more expensive  , A children's meal £10.95 my youngest DD had pizza (small plate size) and jelly and ice cream, drinks were extra!. Whatever you choose to do have a fantastic time:cheer2:

Thanks Karen, we may choose to just wait till our Orlando trip and try it there. We have never bothered with any of the themed restaurants but hearing how much my son enjoyed it in DLP, made me think it would be a good experience for us all.

London is a city with over 5 million people in it (depending on where you draw the boundries) you will hear of lots of incidents but that is because there are so many people.

There are lots of restaurants to eat at without going to a there theme restaurant.

Thanks to all the advice/tips given. We have had a fantastic time and loved it, so much so we are planning to go again. I couldn't get over how clean everywhere was compared to when I last visited (19 years ago).

We did all the sights from Buckingham Palace to Tower Bridge (walked across Tower Bridge excellent) and the British Museum first day. Second day London Eye, Natural History, Science Museum, Harrods, Kensington Park and Speakers Corner. Third Day Oxford Street and London Zoo.

The travelcards were a great advantage.

We stayed in the Novotel Euston London just in between Euston and St Pancras Station and only a five minute walk from Kings Cross where we arrived. Definitely recommend the hotel.

First time travelled via train to London and was impressed at how easy it was. Makes London feel a lot closer now, only 3 hours 20 minutes.

The kids couldn't get over how large and impressive all the buildings were and thank goodness for digital cameras.

And everywhere was normal not at all like what I had read!:goodvibes

Glad you got the zombies locked up for me.:rotfl:

Nope, were not down for the match just purely down to discover the delights of London.

So glad you had a good trip and everywhere was 'normal'. Thank goodness you didn't let those websites put you off visiting :)
