London / Paris Here We Come!!! 9/2 - 9/10/11

Any idea of at what point we will be getting our exact daily itenary? I am wondering when we will have free time/how much/when we have meals on our own, etc.

You will receive a "goodie box" approximately 45 days prior to departure which will contain a more detailed itinerary, but for now....this is pretty good.

Please keep in mind that this will not include the DLP portion of the Adventure.

There is currently no printed literature or collateral for that portion because IT WAS CREATED FOR US!!!!!!!!!

We are the first group taking part in this special addition.:woohoo:

Hope that helps.

Whee for the goody box! I missed that with the Med cruise add-on. :guilty: I hope they change their minds about doing those. (They gave us most of the stuff once we got on the Magic). Some of it we didn't get at all (and it was one of the simple pieces I missed the most!)

Anyone know how long you should allow for an international connection? I'm looking at flights, and there's one from Paris to Newark to Columbus, but there's only about 1 1/2 hour layover in Newark. Is that enough time to get through customs and to the connecting flight (assuming the flight is on time)? If we miss it, we'd probably have to stay overnight in the airport so if it's not doable, I may look at later times out of Paris and get in the next day. I do feel a little weird about flying on September 11 though.

I'm glad others are asking about the itinerary too. It looks like we will see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, but not actually go in. I'd like to do that since it's only open 6 weeks out of the year and we're lucky enough to be there at the right time. Also, I see that we meet at St Paul's for a walking tour one day, but can't tell if we actually tour St Paul's or if that's something we do on our own time. So much to see!!!!

Agreed! It looks like there's more free time in London than in Paris. I wonder how long it takes to tour Buckingham Palace and St. Paul's?

Personally, I try to leave at least 2 hours between flights, but I'm not as strict about coming back as I am about going. I've never been through Newark, so I don't know from personal experience. I came back from Spain via Chicago, and ended up with a lot of extra time. But it's such a toss-up.

I know what you mean about 9/11, but if that's what works, that's what works. I'm still trying to decide. What airline are you looking at?

I checked out the website for St. Paul's Cathedral. Every Sunday they have a free 30 minute organ recital and based on the itinerary, we should have free time that afternoon. That was a big item in Mike's "to do" list for the trip.:thumbsup2

I checked a Trip Report on K&L from 2007, and on that tour they definitely did not go into St. Paul's Cathedral. Another from 2009 did not mention St. Paul's at all. I don't think they've changed the itinerary on this tour that much over the years. Good catch! I will definitely have to be sure to see it either before the trip or during our "free time"!

Fantastic!! Thanks for that link, Kevin. Looks like we have a ton of free time in London. Good thing our guides will be ready to tell me where to go in both places, since we've never been to either before. :). Can't wait!!!!

This sounds wonderful!

I agree! An organ concert at St. Paul's sounds wonderful!!

Sayhello - I was looking at Continental. Several people have told me to allow at least 2 hours for the connection though so I think the flight I was looking at won't work.

Our Travel Pro bags came in today and they have a ton of space in them and lots of outside pockets. I will be testing one of them out next week when I head to Nashville with all my Cold Weather, Outdoor gear for work.

Cool! Let us know what you think. My new Mother Lode eTech checked-bag-sized duffle arrived, but I haven't had a chance to examine it yet. I don't know if I'll get a chance to have a dry run with it before our ABD. The only thing it seems to be missing is an outside pocket large enough to hold magazines and other large papers. We'll see if I can survive without that!

If it's half as good as the carryon version, I'm going to be really happy!

Are any of the pockets large enough for an ipad or kindle?

I also hope you are not scheduled to hang off of Nashville's "bat tower."

I believe there are, Jack. There are a couple of pockets that look big enough.

Luckily for me, No bat tower. I have to drive up to Graham, KY and work at one of our compressor sites and install new..................................................................wait for it.................................................................................................Cameras.

Not 6D's I suppose? :)

That is very "Von Erich"

We are so far off topic Kevin is going to slap us (and we don't want to give "absolute power" Nikki any ammo either) but I will just say I had to google that reference.

I don't get out much.
