London Hotel help???

Having such dilemmas deciding where to stay for 10 days in March...we can get a good rate at 'The Thistle-Kensington Park'?? the 'Thistle-Marble Arch' or the 'Copthorne-Tara' in Kensington?

ANY help appreciated!!!!
We are travelling with a friend that is not too well..we want to be able to sight see..and have it easy for him to cab it back to the hotel if need be easily?

We like the Royal Lancaster at Lancaster Gate off the Bayswater Road - it's convenient but not cheap.

The Thistle at Marble Arch is very nice and is in an excellent location, very close to Oxford Street.
It generally isn't cheap staying in central London but the advantage is you are right at the centre of everything.

We stay at Millenium Gloucester or you have thier sister hotel Millenium Baileys. Both very nice. Its opposite the Gloucester Tube Station on Picadilly Line and its easier enough to get to most attractions. Both highly recommended. We have booked Gloucester again for March. Cant wait.

In my experience the Thistle chain of hotels are generally very shabby and run down. Copthorne-Tara's are generally newer and better. The Kensington Copthorne-Tara is OK but nothing special - more 3-star than 2. Thistle's tend to be more 2-star. Both Thistles and Tara are categorised as 4-star.

In terms of location/quality you will not go wrong with 5-star, even where the name is not disclosed because of the discount, as there are a finite number of 5-star hotels and they are all well located. If you go for a lower category it can vary wildly both in quality and in location (the supposed 4 star Thistles being a good example).

The Millenium Baileys is 4 Star and The Millenium Gloucester is a 5 star. Both great. I prefer the Gloucester its a little more, but its worth the extra.

Have a look at www.tripadvisor.com they will give you some reviews on hotels in London

www.expedia.co.uk have some great deals. We actually booked the Millenium Gloucester with them directly better deals than anywhere else.

I am originally from London so my husband tries to take me back at least 3 times a year!!.....we have stayed in many hotels over the years but for the last 2 years have only stayed at one hotel called the Dorset Square Hotel which we found quite by accident when we booked another hotel nearby that was overbooked!!.

They do have their own website www.dorsetsquare.co.uk so I wont go into lots of details as the website has lots of detail but the rooms are stunning and they have 2 restaurants with differnt menus, a minute walk from underground and overhead train services and a 3 minute walk from Madam Tussards, Sherlock Holmes Museum etc. I cannot rate this small but perfect hotel enough. I love it as its so traditional and very english. We feel so welcome there. It will be perfect for you and your traveller who needs to worry about illness,

I have noticed the Thistle-Marble Arch is popping up as the accepting 4* on Priceline a lot these days...may try my luck there if not there are some great suggestions here for me to peruse!!
