LOL! Woman sues Google over directions

Okay, stupid person here. What does it mean by the directions are in beta?????

Beta is a test version, like a preview. It means it's still in testing and Google is collecting feedback from users to make changes or improvements. Think of it as the soft opening of ride at Disney.

This is another fine example of how stupidity keeps me employed. (I'm a paramedic.)

This is a time when you jut have to raise up both hands and yell, "Darwin!" and let the powers that be filter out the gene pool. People like this make the whole human species look bad. :sad2: ;)

The saddest part of all is that she'll probably win!

Common sense means nothing anymore - it is always somebody else's fault. :sad2:

I feel bad for her because she was hurt, but come on, what a dope.

Here in Maine, in the northern part, a woman who lives on an old country road (dirt/aka mud most of the time), put a sign up at the very beginning that says "No matter what your GPS tells you, this is not a THROUGH road". Apparently gps says its a short cut from one town to another, and people kept going up there and getting completely mired, and she wound up having to tow them out. :lmao:
Plus, my road apparently does not exist according to gps systems....ours always tells us we are home at the first house on the road that ours is off of. I keep telling hubs we need to just stop and walk on in :rotfl: we know all our neighbors up here so they'd probably just feed us supper anyhow.

My own child had this posted as a Facebook status:

What did people do before GPS?

My reply--We used this goofy thing called a "map." There's a fancy one called an "atlas" in the door pocket of your car.

Well, I imagine that Google will file a motion to dismiss, which will likely be granted. If anything the woman (or her attorney, if she has one) is simply hoping for a quick 'settlement'. I bet we never hear of it again.

I recall one lawsuit my father (who used to defend a couple of railroads) defended. The plaintiffs were the survivors of three men who had been hit by a train.

The three men had been out drinking. About 2 in the morning they decided to drive to a private place to finish up: so they drove across a field, up a steep embankment, onto a railroad track. They then drank until they apparently passed out, and a train hit them.

My father filed a motion to dismiss on the basis that the plaintiffs did not show, in the lawsuit, any rational basis for the railroad being at all negligent. Suit dismissed.

So it will be here.

I guess we finally know the answer to that age-old question "If your Blackberry told you to go play in traffic would you listen to it"

At least we know Google is doing their best to filter our gene pool.

Even once directions are out of beta some brain power is needed in addition to the talking electronics. GPS isn't inch perfect, construction changes routes and roads faster then GPS updates, and really it is much more of a guide then anything else.

I want to know what sad, sorry, pathetic excuse for an attorney was SO hard up for money that he'd take this case... Wow!

I wouldn't wanna be on the jury, unless we were allowed to give statements prior to the verdict! :thumbsup2

I feel sorry for the poor driver that hit her. He probably had no reaction time and now is being sued as well. That won't be easily dismissed.

What was she doing walking in the middle of the road!!!!

Yes, GPS systems aren't fool proof and they can be a darn nuisance sometimes. I was dumped into the middle of downtown Boston one time at 1am because they closed my normal exit I used. The GPS was telling me to turn the wrong way on one way streets, etc. It took me a half hour of driving around before I got back on the expressway the right way! Aggravating yes, but I was not going to blindly follow the GPS when it was telling me wrong and possibly dangerous directions.

Of course, you don't have to use your brain these days. You can just sue!

You have to know the New York City area to enjoy this. Three different mapping programs, from the same location to the same destination.

1. Probably fastest, depending on traffic: Jersey Turnpike to the Gothals Bridge to the Verrazano Bridge to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to Grand Gental Parkway and exit at LaGuardia Airport.

2. Works fairly well depending on traffic. Jersey Turnpike to the George Washington Bridge to the Major Deegan Expressway (crossing the Bronx) crossing the Triboro Bridge to Grand Central Parkway and exit at Laguardia Airport.

3. Total disaster suggested by one program: Jersey Turnpike to the Lincoln Tunnel, cross midtown Manhattan to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, etc. This would have involved crossing all of Manhattan in the midtown area in the middle of the afternoon.

I hope he countersues for the damage done to his or her car.

My guess on this:

Client comes to personal injury attorney with severe injuries. Driver of car has minimum insurance coverage - overall, not enough insurance to cover medicals. Client wants big dollars and attorney wants to keep client from going to another lawyer. Attorney agrees to bring in the deep pockets, settles the claim (or will settle) against the driver and takes his/her fee. Case against deep pockets is dismissed. Along the way attorney gets his/her face on the news.

Fiance called me over to the PC last night so I could read this, he was laughing hysterical and asking WHY would a woman sue b/c SHE isn't bright?

Maybe Google will sue the driver of the car for driving on a roadway where Google's GPS was telling a woman to walk.

Google would claim, after all, that it essentially has taken over ownership of all things related to the planet, roadways included, and that people and vehicles should only be going along routes that Google has approved via GPS application.
