So I come home from class today, only to find that there are signs all over my block from the lovely NYPD informing us that some people have decided to film a movie and decided to use our block for the filming. These lovely yellow signs informed us that we must move our cars by 8 pm on Monday and can't park during filming until July 11. Now, they've filmed before in my neighborhood, but never on my block, so I don't quite remember the logistics of it.

We have a driveway, and I can park on the driveway, but will the block be closed off so that I can't even get out of the driveway or back in when I'm done with class? One of my friends said if I show an ID, I should be alright. But here's the problem... I don't have an ID with this address, unless you count my passport. The address on my license is the one from when I moved into my apartment for school, right now, I'm in my parent's apartment. I'll be changing my address since I'm moving back for good later in the summer, but my parents are going on vacation and asked me to stay with the dog. So am I going to need to carry around my passport since it still has that address on it? Or will they just take my word for it? Or just not let anybody through at all? Has anyone had any experience with a movie being filmed on your block?

I have visions of myself having to get dressed up in the morning when I go to walk the dog in case I somehow end up on camera accidentally, I don't want to look like a mess. Not something I want to deal with when I need to be up at 6 am so I can walk the dog and still be able to leave by 7:30 so I can be on time for my 9 am classes.

I would assume you'll be getting a notice in your mailbox informing you of all the logistics.

It all depends on where they need to park all of their trucks and where they are actually filming.
If your driveway is close to the action , you probably won't be able to access it at times.... if not so close you can probably get to know the PA(production assistant) at the end of the block , if its closed off and they may help you get in.

My Dh works on films in NYC.. so i apologize and thank you for putting up with the inconvenience.....

(here is a hint ..if you complain about the inconvenience(noise/lights/parking) to a locations person you may get a little $$$ for your trouble)

That isn't exactly the answer I wanted to hear :scratchin Do they keep the trucks there all the time? If I leave for class earlier, would the trucks not be there yet? Or do they leave them there the entire week? The really annoying part is that my neighborhood is normally really hard to park in, so if I can't get to my driveway, finding a spot on the street somewhere, even a few blocks away, is really hard. I am really not happy about this. I have a feeling it will be a long week.

The trucks usually stay as long as they are using that location...

as far as I know... Dh is working so i can't ask him right now...

If you do not get any notices ( i don't know if they do anything like that, probably not in NYC) find and ask to speak to a production assistant and if they can't help you ask for a locations manager...when they begin to set up. They can answer all of your questions...

DH is actually taking a week off next week.... so i know he will not be working on your street... If i thought he would be there i would have told you to ask for him...

hope its not so bad... and please know that the families who are supported by the film industry in NYC are thankful for the NY'ers who put up with the inconveniences :thumbsup2

thank you...:flower3:

I know there are families that are supported by the film industry, and I really don't have much control over where they film, but that doesn't mean I have to like it either. When it's not on my block, the first time I saw a movie being filmed, I thought it was really cool. Now, I'm just starting to get jaded and annoyed by the whole thing. I don't even think my block is anything that special, it's a rather ugly block if I may say so myself. I don't think anyone will want to see that in a movie, but I guess they do?

Right now, they're filming something at my school, today was our first day back, so I don't know how long they're there for. But I guess it's a good time for them to film, since the undergrad is out, and the first and second year med students aren't back yet, and we are back for a couple weeks for an introductory course before we go into the hospitals. Guess I can't get away from the movies. My mom told me when I go to walk the dog next week, I should put a pretty bow in her hair in case they want to put her in the movie, and then our dog can be the next Benji :dogdance:
