The Pink Cow and Monkey Business sound interesting!
Loews hotels at Universal start healthy children program
Responding to concerns about obesity in America's young people, Loews Hotels' new, chainwide program offers healthy food and drink menus and activities to keep children moving.
Just launched at the Portofino Bay Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel and the Royal Pacific Resort -- as well as all of the chain's 20 properties, the program will quench active youngsters' thirst with five drinks that the hotel chain's corporate food and beverage department developed in consultation with a registered dietitian.
The drinks are designed to be low in calories and sugar and high in taste and nutrition. Each is less than 200 calories and will be offered by a hotel "Quenchmeister," which Loews describes as a "sommelier of sorts, to help with drink selection and food pairing."
The five drinks -- kid-tested before their introduction -- include the Pink Cow, a milk and strawberry smoothie; Monkey Business, a banana, coconut and chocolate soy milk smoothie; Tropicalada, a pineapple, coconut, tofu, flax seed and soy milk smoothie; Berry Berry Good, a blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, soy milk and non-fat yogurt smoothie; and, Purple Nurple, a blend of grape and pomegranate juices and seltzer.
On the food side, menus now include children-friendly baked fish nuggets, barbecue chicken legs, turkey wraps and a fresh pureed fruit and vegetable choice for babies.
As for the workout, events such as a hotelwide scavenger hunt, walking and jogging paths and on-loan jump ropes, hula hoops and exercise videos have been developed to stimulate more active spare time for families.
