Anyone done this? I've been trying to grow my hair out for it and it's gotten to the point that I either have to french braid my hair or put it up in some half arsed "pebbles" looking thing on top of my head.

Any other ideas on what to do with in the meantime? I have about another 4 inches to go before I can finally chop it off again :rotfl:

My niece switched organizations since LOL charges for their wigs. I can't remember the name of the other group.

At least a french braid looks better than my perpetual ponytail when mine gets long. I bet it looks cute.

my DD donated her hair last year. It took her a long time to be ready to cut it all off! She didn't want it too short when it was all done, so she let it grow quite a bit. She was able to donate 13 inches.

It was such a pain to keep neat! I had to wash and brush it for her since it was too much for her to take care of herself (she was 9 at the time) Sorry...no suggestions on how to manage it until you get those last 4 inches!

I had a girl in my RE class last year that donated her hair to or through Pantene. I forget why she chose them but I remember it being a good reason.

Actually this seems to offer some good information:

I am there also, probably can donate 13-15 inches. It keeps knotting up and I'm getting headaches from it.

I twist mine up and secure with a barrette. One of the large ones.

Also, after reading the link I posted, it said that the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program will accept hair at least eight inches long. I think Locks of Love is 12 inches long.

I donated to Locks of Love last time, I might go somewhere different this time.

We have a Locks of Love wig (my daughter has alopecia). Now, we got in 4 yrs ago and she has since outgrown it - but at the time they didn't charge. It was based our income and our financial situation when we applied, and my Dh makes a decent income, but we still qualified for no charge.

I don't know if that changed in the past few years though... the wigs were beautiful. But they were hot on her head (we lived in FL at the time)... and today she just goes as she is so we didn't apply for another one after that. I've asked her too - but she doesn't want one.

I donated 2X myself - 16" and 14".... I always ended up in ponytails by the end!

My DD6 donated to LOL when she was 3 and plans to do it again this summer.

I donated to Locks of Love about 8 years ago.

As for your hair, scrunchies are your friends ;) I like having the ability to braid, french braid, pony tail (on rare occasion pig tales) down with a hair band or just straight.

Pantene beautiful lengths donates the hair to make wigs for cancer patients. Locks of Love's hair goes for wigs for alopeia patients (people who have an "allergy" of sorts to their own hair). Good causes, both, but around here people have believed for a long time that LoL gives wigs to cancer patients, which isn't true.

Thank you. This is true. Locks of Love hair goes to those who have permanent hairloss. I think it a great cause. I donated 14 inches to them a few years ago. At that time, they were not keen on colored or processed/permed hair.

I was not aware of Pantene donating to cancer patients, so that is also great information.

I'm thinking of growing my hair really long again with the goal of donating. I am greying, but blessed with thick healthy, fast growing hair. I'd love to donate again, but also badly want to color it because I'm vain! :lmao:

So, does Pantene take colored hair?

My daughter donated to Pantene a couple years ago b/c their length wasn't as long as Locks of Love. She was so proud to do that at 4 1/2. We're growing it out again.

Most of my clients have been donating to Beautiful Lengths by Pantene in the pst couple years. Either is a good cause but if you just can't stand it and want to donate sooner, take a look at Pantene's!!

I donated to Pantene last yr, they require 8 inches where LOL requires 10
My daughter is growing her hair to donate now. It really is tough to keep it looking need. Either a braid, ponytail or good old headband

I've done Locks for Love twice (the last time was last summer). I felt it was a good cause (especially since I was going to cut my hair anyway).
