I thought I'd heard that the Barber Shop on Main St in MK did Locks for Love cuts - does anyone know for sure? DD and I are wanting to donate and thought it would be a cool way to start our vacation. :teeth:

I don't know, but if they don't, you can ask them to bind the hair at the top and the bottom firmly with rubber bands, and then you can mail it to LoL.

I think it's so great that you're doing that :) DD and I did a year ago, and she still talks about it.

Not sure if they do it on main street, but I just had mine cut locally. I printed out the "instructions" from their webpage and took it with me. Basically, like the last posted said, just have them securely tie the hair with rubberbands at top and bottom (and can even have them tied every 3 inches or so) and then place in a clean plastic bag. The mailing address is also on the webpage. It's important to place the hair in the bag right after cutting because you wouldn't want it to come undone from rough handling.

I am a hair dresser and I am not sure if they do it at the Main Street Barber but you could send it in yourself. They want at least 10 inches of hair so make sure before you save it that you have that much. Have a great trip!

Also, make sure you can afford to loose MORE than 10 inches! I donated about a year ago, and it was a wonderful experience. HOWEVER, i was measuring 10 inches, but after the hairdresser evened it up (I have REALLY thick hair), it ended up being more like 13-14 that came off. :earseek: I would donate again in a HEARTBEAT but I will let it get a few inches longer next time! I looked similar to bozo the clown after she got done with me!! But well worth it as long as some child can benefit. :flower:

I asked the same question about a week ago. And I had a few people say that they had done it there themselves. You just have to bring a plastic bag to put your hair in. I was going to cut mine this year, but my sister's wedding is next year and I want enough to do it in an updo. Sooo...I thought it would add to the magic to have it cut at disney's barber shop too :)

Locks of Love is a wonderful organization. I too am a hairdresser and I always love how people will come in and give so much hair to cause. Some tips to keep in mind are
1-to take before and after pics to remember the experience,
2-when you put the hair in the bag make sure it is all dry it tends to get smelly and unusable for them if it is in there wet.
3-they like the hair braided so it does not unravel
4-make sure to send them all your info with the hair, they will send you a thank you in the mail.
Have a great trip, and from all of us hairdressers..... WE THANK YOU!!!! you are truely doing something magical for someone else!

Thank you everyone - DD and I should be all right as far as the length, if you see DD's picture below that is 2 years ago and she's only had trims so...mine should be ok and if it alittle short oh well it will grow back - thanks for the intfo and well wishes too :teeth: .

DD6 did this at the Main Street Barber Shop during our 2004 trip. They can mail the hair in for you (both barbers working knew all the plan details already), or they'll package it for you to deliver yourself. DD had hair past her bottom, and it ended up just below her ears. Quite dramatic, and we had a hard time picking her out of the crowds for days afterwards. Hope you have a great experience! :)

My DD did this last year. They do not do a free cut like the stylists listed on Locks of Love website, but they do know what needs to be done, and the lenght. They did not offer to send it off for us which I didn't mind since it was fun to do ourselves. Main Street Barber Shop does a really pretty cut, and they made DD feel SO special as it was both her first haircut, and she was donating it. princess: Hope you guys enjoy it as much as we did, we'll be there again this year, but DD doesn't have enough hair for Locks of Love.

Kelly

You are your DD are doing a great thing!
