Lockoff or Dedicated....WWYD?

We're taking my parents to HHI next spring. It will be their first time to the island and we are so excited. In 2010, we took them with us to WDW and stayed in a standard 2BR lock-off at Kidani. We liked the set-up since we usually book a 1BR and they are fine with a studio. The lock-off was exactly what we needed. Dad had his own wired internet access and they had their own kitchenette and entrance.

Right now, we have a dedicated 2BR reserved at HHI for 6 nights, arriving the night before Easter. We have Sat and Sun night booked with cash and the last 4 on points. At 7 months, I am hoping to buy the 4 extra points we'd need to switch the Sunday night to points.

Now, I'm starting to wonder if we should switch to a lock-off. We have a request right now of "close to pool" but if we want a lock-off, I would want to be in the main lodge and not under a GV.

So, I am throwing the "WWYD" question out there... would you give up the "close to pool" possibility and go with a lock-off? Or would you prefer to be close to the pool (and community hall, mug refill station, etc) and have a dedicated?

FWIW, DH and I would be in the master bedroom, DD9 and DD7 would be in the living room, and mom and dad would be in the second bedroom/studio. We're a very close family so "separation" is not really an issue. We live within 5 miles of each other and Granny and Papa provide the "daycare" for my girls. We will also have 2 vehicles because mom and dad want to visit friends on Fripp Island while we are there. Another consideration is that our family (of 4) will likely stay in a 1BR for most of our stays, meaning that we will almost always be in the main lodge, if our request is met.

Earlier this month, we were in building 18, a dedicated 2 bedroom, and it was wonderfully located IMO! It wasn't far from anything & we had a great view of Broad Creek.

After just having an experience with bringing my parents along I would say get the lock off. At least with my dad that way he could have gotten up and made coffee and stuff in their room rather than go into the living room kitchen and start making noise and waking up my kids!!

Unless a lock-off 2BR is required for HCA reasons, the resort will usually only reserve the lock-offs as a 1BR and a Studio and not as a 2BR villa.

You can certainly try, but be prepared to keep the dedicated 2BR villa.

I'd actually thought about this possibility. Since we usually book 1BR's, I know that they have a very limited availability. I might feel a little guilty booking a lock-off for convenience and therefore jilting people out of booking a studio and a 1BR.

There are only 21 Studios and 21 1BRs. If they allow guests to reserve those as lock-off 2BRs it further reduces the number available as Studios and 1BRs. There is no other option when an accessible 2BR is necessary, since there are no accesible dedicated 2BRs or GVs.

In the past they have not allowed anyone to reserve a 2BR unless needed for accessibility. It can't hurt to ask, just in case the policy has changed over time.
