Lockers?

I've read a bit about lockers at Universal. The local theme park here doesn't have these, and last time I went to Disneyland, they didn't have them. I've never been to Universal so I have NO clue how these lockers work.

I've read a little bit about them, that they're touch operative and open with your fingerprints? Do all the rides have them? Or is it just the major ones? I heard that it won't charge you unless you leave your stuff in them all day, right?

I know that HP's FJ has these lockers, but where are they in the castle? Because I want to take pictures throughout the queue line, but don't want to take my stuff on the ride with me. Same goes for Dragon Challenge.

The only rides with free lockers are the ones that require you to store any loose articles. At all of the rides requiring lockers, they are right at the entrance before the queue.

For HP, if your camera is too big to be kept safe in your pocket, then you need to store it in the lockers while you ride. Then you can go through the line in the 'castle tour' line, which is for veiwing the casle only - not riding.

When you say Disneyland doesn't have them, I believe you are referring to lockers that are free for a limited period of time? Disneyland does have lockers outside the entrance to both parks, just not free lockers. The "free" period for the locker will be related to how long the wait on the ride is. For example, if a ride's wait-time is 90 minutes, the free period will be approximately two hours.

Yes, the US / IOA lockers use the biometric finger scan, just like at the turnstiles.

FJ's lockers are to your right as you enter the castle through the regular entrance, or to your left if entering through Filch's Emporium. Even though the employees will say that you cannot have a carryon of any sort, I found that on every ride with free lockers they did allow a small purse or fanny pack. I had a small Cybershot camera with me that I carried in a very small over-the-shoulder pouch. I was never once questioned or turned away from an attraction. However, many of the US / IOA attractions are intense so if you have an expensive or large camera I wouldn't recommend bringing it on those rides with you. You can take the tour of Hogwart's and view the Dragon Challenge queue, both without getting on the ride, so you may want to consider that instead for your photos.

Backpacks of any sort are not allowed on the rides. Only small fanny packs. A biometric scan of your finger is linked to your ticket. Upon entering the park you put your finger on the scanner and it links it to your ticket. You get your finger scanned upon any subsequent entry to make sure you are the only one using your ticket.

Wow, you were lucky! I had a very small flat crossbody Vera Bradley bag and was told it had to go in the lockers. I also saw people that had only tiny wristlets told to either put them in their pockets or in the lockers, that the only thing allowed were fanny packs and even they had to be small enough to not interfere with the restraints. There have been lots of posts on here about people having to put even the tinest crossbody/shoulder bags in the lockers.

My goof...I should have added that my over-the-shoulder pouch converts to an around-the-waist fanny pack using a three-pronged clasp. As I would go through the queue I would convert it to the fanny pack before I reached the loading area. It was more comfortable to carry it over the shoulder when I was not on a ride. Perhaps they would have said something to me at the loading area if I was still wearing it over the shoulder. I found it at Wal-Mart for $6.99 in their camping section. It's made from a waterproof material. It has two zippered compartments and stays relatively flat to the body. The only identifying mark on it, though, is "Outdoor Products" stitched on the front.
