What is the opinion of locking your cases? Do we lock them and hope the security doesn't brake them open or do we leave them unlocked and how safe is this? Many thanks for your advice in advance.

What we do is use the plastic cable ties. Have had a case opened once in the last 2 years (4 trips), case was searched, a note put in from the security people and the case was then re-tied using a blue plastic security tie.

A plastic tie they can just cut off but with a padlock - especially a combination lock they will just break open.

Off in a few weeks and will use plastic ties again.

We also use the plastic cable ties, we have had 3 cases and my golf clubs searched in our last 3 trips and they have retied all of them with the blue security cable.

I hadn't thought about this issue before but will do now.

On Dec 31st we were flying home from McCoy and were told at check in to remove our padlocks. This had never happened before. We also did not put our cases on the usual weighing thingy at the check in desk. They took all the cases to a separate area where we were told that ALL cases were being manually searched.

I can only assume this was due to the hghtened security alert in place in the USA at that time.

We visited the airport last year before our trip and were told not to lock....so we left them open and one went missing at Chicago. 24 hrs later it arrived much to the relief of my teenage daughter. I feel uncomfortable about cases being accessible.I think i'll use ties this year.....
