Locked bags at port

This is probably a dumb question, but here goes - we are first time cruisers, and we are driving to the port. Do you lock your bags with TSA locks before turning them over to the porters as if you were flying, or is there no need for that?

I do, but not for security purposes. It's just a precaution against the zipper popping open.

We use zip-ties. If they need to open the bag during screening, they can just cut it.

Smart. We’ve had zippers broken before with TSA locks and so gave up using them. Not on DCL, but checked bags are screened at DCL for prohibited items so they may need to open your bag and inspect it.

I wondered if they had the capability of accessing TSA locks so that was part of the reason I asked.

We did once, they told us our bag was delayed because they could not get the lock open. They were new bags and came with the TSA locks, so I thought, why not. Since that one time, we haven't used them.

We leave them unlocked since we know they are subject to search. No concerns about zippers since we have hard sided luggage with a luggage strap on them.

I also don't pack valuables in checked bags. They are in carry-on only.

Thanks for the replies. We may go with some kind of zip tie that can be cut if needed, or nothing at all.

We always lock our bags before handing them off to someone else.

Yes. I had a pair of kid scissors in my bag on our last cruse. They called me and had me open the bag so they could see them(the scissors were fine btw). Not sure if they call now instead of opening the bags themselves or not. There was about 10 other people opening their bags for security. This was last March on the Fantasy.
