Our local weekly has an article on the front page--it's an interview with two of our local police officers (one is the DARE guy) who have been researching myspace, xanga, etc. They are cautioning parents who may not know about it. I teach in a HS so I am aware of it, and DD#1 (13) does not have an account. However, they say many kids, even jr. high, have accounts and explained the dangers--that some kids have full names, bdays, phone numbers--and that if you clink a link for a friend of a friend, etc., who knows what you could be opening up.
It's interesting that at least one of DD's friends already has said that her dad read the article and her myspace account is now deleted--wonder how many other jr. high kids will be losing their accounts this week!
(BTW no flames please I know some of you have responsible children who have perfectly managed myspace accounts--but you have to admit some parents are clueless, and hopefully the parents in our town won't be clueless anymore)
