This Past Wednesday June 6th 2007 , The Union contract was passed , so the servers will Lose the auto 18% grat on prepaid dining plans, and it will make us have to solicite tips to regular guests who are veterans of the dining plan that already know the grat was included.. Also new items that were added, parties of 6 or more will now be automatic 18% instead a party of 8 , and The Disney Dining Experience 20% off food and drinks will Now include a 18% grat on the first total... Disney Told us that the removal of the Grat on the meal plans was a trial to permanent thing, depending if the guests Complain about it enough, So all of us servers and bartenders hope you will all call and complain , They are still charging the full price for the dining plan and there are rumors that they wanna totally get rid of the food plan...... Please help your cast members that you care for.

Disney will be carefully looking at the results of normalized surveys and revenue trends to determine whether or not this change is a positive one or not. Be sure that if you visit WDW after this goes into effect and don't like this, answer the surveys sent to you after your visit. Also, if you really object to it, don't purchase the Dining Plan once this goes into effect. These are the two most effective ways of communicating your dissatisfaction.

Note that boycotting the Dining Plan before this goes into the effect may have the opposite effect: It will make it look like the Dining Plan was declining in popularity even before the change went into effect, and therefore make the effect of the change itself look insignificant.

Why start another thread on this? We just had a multi-page thread started by the OP with the same message.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1476954

This is starting to look like spam.

I was thinking the same thing. Alot of posters on the other thread didn't like his negative attitude toward foreigners and DDP guests, so he started a new thread? I do agree with his basic complaint though, which is alot of waiters are probably going to get stiffed (at least until everyone gets used the tip not being included). This also automatically gives the DDP an automatic 18% increase in price for those of us that do tip correctly. Now some people may not be ordering the most expensive things on the menu and may not be ordering all those appetizers and desserts that they don't eat.

I also don't like that the DDE diners will now have an automatic 18% added to their bill. I use both the DDP and DDE (depending on which looks best for that particular trip). I usually tip at least 20% and like being able to just look at my ticket, see the 20% DDE discount, and know at a glance what I need to tip. With 18% being automatically added I won't know how much I should have tipped and may just leave it at the 18%. So it seems like the waiters may be getting shorted with both the DDP and the DDE.

What a lot of people are ignoring is this: With the old system, even a server who was HORRIBLE still got an 18% tip. So, that meant the server didn't have to even try to please the customers since he/she would get the tip automatically.
Now, the customer can decide how much tip the server deserves. Also, the server will not have that automatic tip. So, the lousy service that we had last trip could be avoided. Just my .02

We will be watching this thread and decided that the other thread had run its course, hence it being locked....if this one even remotely hints at certain groups being bad tippers, it will be locked as well..

I know that Disney reads these boards and they certainly could have read all the other pages on this subject and saw what the majority of posters thought. The fact that it was brought up again by a Disney castmember surprises me and I feel that may be a bit of overkill and not what you are trying to achieve here.

if OP was concirend about the new contract, they should have made sure it was voted down. Now it looks like there trying to get the guests to get there dirty work

As far as we can tell, at least with the DDP, January 2008. While I do believe the changes (especially given that at least some of them were supported in the other thread by a CM I know and trust) will occur, we really do need to wait for DISNEY to announce them to the public before we contact them with our opinions.

I agree. In addition to not buying the DDP if it doesn't meet your needs, I would explain your decision to the CM's who take your ressie and ask if you want DDP, and those who make your ADRs and ask if you have DDP. Or email someone in authority (don't know who that is, but perhaps someone does) and let them know that you did not purchase the DDP because the change now makes the plan unattractive to your family.

Simply sending an "I'm mad" email is not going to do much good. Emails saying "I didn't buy it because..." or "I've made ressies offsite because the change in DDP changed the math for our family and the cost now outweighs the convenience of onsite..." will have far more effect than just whining.
Note that boycotting the Dining Plan before this goes into the effect may have the opposite effect: It will make it look like the Dining Plan was declining in popularity even before the change went into effect, and therefore make the effect of the change itself look insignificant.
Very true, and if OP is correct in thinking some in Disney Dining want to get rid of DDP, this plays right into their hands.

The changes will presumably take effect 1/1/2008, so people visiting before then should not change their plans based on something that may happen after their trip.

Dude, the servers make up 1% of the Union, when disney waves raises for everyone, People Vote In Favor of the Contract, servers virtually have No say In what Disney and the union does....

I hate lousy service as well- but it was nice to save the 15-20% tip if you had the DDP. Now if the service is good- instead of Disney covering the 18%-we have to pay for it.

As to why the OP is posting this again- I think to raise awareness on this issue to the only people that will actually take the time to complain- and hopefully make a difference.

Considering that 2008 rates/packages have not been released we cannot yet know for sure what changes will be made. Until that time everything is rumor and speculation. While there may be a strong basis for the rumor and speculation there is still no definite word from Disney about whether this will actually happen. It seems silly and self-serving to get everyone's knickers in a knot about something that may not happen.

Does anyone else find it odd that they're removing the 18% gratuity from the DDP but adding it to the DDE? What would be the logic in that? Do you think it's intended to discourage guests from jumping from the DDP to DDE, by making DDE less attractive? I'm just trying to figure out why the tip would be treated differently on the two plans.
