So I have been a long time lover, fan, person with an obsession almost :rotfl: of the loaded potato soup at Carnation Cafe for years! As long as I can remember it's been something I have had often on a trip to Disneyland.

Well I had it for the first time (and only once) on this long extended trip we are on and it was different. It had peppers in it and I think big chunks of something that was not potato (maybe celery?). But I am not a pepper fan, I find the flavor goes right through things.

Anyway the soup just wasn't what I remember.

Has anyone else noticed that the recipe is different to what it was years ago? Maybe I just got it on a day when someone new made it and added something that shouldn't have been there.

Has anyone else eaten it in the last couple of months and found it different to years gone by? Did it contain an ingredient or two that were not previously in it? Or do I need to race back and have it again?

We love this soup also, and eat at Carnation Cafe every time we are in Disneyland to get it::yes::!

The last time we ate it, we noticed a difference in the consistency--the potato pieces were quite different, and I do remember celery, but not an abundance of pepper. The taste was the same, but we absolutely noticed some changes.

We also might have had an "off day" (like you did?), but I will look forward to doing some "research" on the subject when we are next there;)!

Was yours bad enough that you wouldn't want to order it again?:sad1:

I'm glad it wasn't just me :rotfl:. I really don't like pepper (we call it capsicum in Australia), I can't eat anything with that in it. So I know it wasn't in there before but it was when I had it recently.

May pop up there and give it another try today or tomorrow.

I don't know why they would change it if they did? If it isn't broken, why fix it? It has always been such a popular soup, loved by SO many people. Why they would change something that was SO popular is strange. I do hope that it was just an off day for both of us. I won't give up on my favourite soup yet ;)

Maybe when they re-did the menu they tweeked the recipe? I was so disappointed with the menu change! It used to be one of our favorite breakfast places... not anymore! :(

Go on over to Pacific Wharf Cafe in DCA and try the loaded baked potato soup there. It's the soup of the day right now. I had it for lunch yesterday and liked it. It's served in a bread bowl, but you can ask for it in a cup on the side if you don't want the bread soppy. The soup didn't taste peppery to me although I admit I'm used to pepper and wasn't thinking about that. Didn't find any celery. Lots of nice potato chunks though.

I agree, I had it in December and it just wasn't the same. And WAY smaller portion too. Carnation used to be my favorite place for Breakfast and dinner but not anymore after the menu changes...... =(

Thanks, I'll give that a go :thumbsup2

It was not the black pepper (spice) that I didn't like it was those red peppers (we call them capsicum) that I didn't like. It didn't used to have red peppers in it. :headache:

I really don't understand the change :confused3 The place was SO popular! That's why they needed to expand. Why change something that was really popular. Just make it bigger (as they did) so that more people could get in there. But to actually change the recipe of something that was so often talked about by so many as a must have when they visit DLR, I'm rather confused as to why they would change the recipe :confused3

^ I totally don't get it either! The Croissant Benedict was my FAVORITE!!! It's gone now...... =( When we ate there last time for dinner I had a difficult time finding something on the menu I wanted to eat. My DH really wants to try the cherry milkshake, so I know we will be back at some point.

Thank you so much for posting this info.--did not know it was available at Pacific Wharf.

I hope it's still available when we're there next!

Ok. Wasn't sure which pepper you meant. I don't like peppers either and didn't notice any in my soup yesterday.

So I just went and tried it again. They definitely have larger chunks of celery which I hadn't noticed over the years. But I asked them what has changed. Aside from not dicing the celery they have changed the recipe from cream to half and half.
It was actually better this time than when I had it recently.
