Does anyone have these? I am thinking about getting them for me and DS however I figured it would take the XL since we usually go travel for over a week at a time but the dimensions are too large for the airlines. :confused3 Does anyone know how big the large is? Can you fit quite a bit in there?

This is probably not the exact answer you're looking for, but it might give you some idea of the sizes of the LLBean duffles. Both my girls (7 and 5) have the medium adventure duffle (not the rolling ones, but I believe the interior dimensions on non-rolling and rolling are the same). The medium duffle looks like it could fit 4-5 days worth of summer clothes, socks, underwear, shoes, bathing suits, toiletries, for kids their ages. I estimate that the large size would do about the same for adults, depending on the bulkiness of the clothes (and how many shoes you were packing). I think if you want to pack an entire week into one duffle, you might need the extra large--also if you travel in the winter, that might be a better bet since clothes are bulkier then. Hope that helps some.

We have the large rolling adventure duffle and love it. Have had it probably 5 years. It is plenty large - holds tons of stuff! Usually my husband and I both can pack in it. We were going to order the XL, but the lady on the phone from LL Bean steered us towards the L duffle. She was right, it is easy to use, does fine with the airlines, and holds up very well. I would definately recommend getting one.

Thanks...with the airlines charging fee's for all checked bags I sure don't want to pay extra for an over-sized bag as well.

hee hee! I'm here multi-tasking... I really have too much to accomplish this weekend and shouldn't be on the boards.
But here I am! with my cup of tea & girl guide cookie, tax guide open, 1 web page open here, 1 web page open on Facebook (Scramble anyone?) AND! the LLBean summer catalogue on my lap!

We bought the XL for our trip in 2006...it is HUGE! We fit EVERYTHING in it (and we were getting married down there, so we had a LOT!). Luckily, we checked it with SW and it was fine...mostly clothes so we didn't go over 50lbs (or at least we weren't charged for it :confused3). Of course, this was before all the crazy bag fees started!!

We are taking it again this time...but only because we are driving. If I had it to do over again, I would definitely buy the large. I think you'll find that there is plenty of room in it! :thumbsup2

We have it too and I love it. Plus it's so easy to spot at the airport!! For our last two Disney trips I packed two people in the one bag. Me and DH in September and me and DD16 in March.

My girls have the medium sized non rolling ones and in the summer they can pack for a week in them.

This is the large rolling duffel, and the small non-rolling duffel carry-on. I put a dvd by it so you can sort of see the scale. I think the large is plenty for a week. (Don't mind my spackled walls...I'm getting ready to paint :))

I got my son the XL and the M for graduation(he got more fun stuff too!) They have been great pieces. He flies with the M as a carry on all the time. The XL was checked home at Christmas with no problems(AirTran)

We have the large one - and it's funny - ours is sitting in the attic now, (still and all ready, although no plans to go back until 2010!) packed with our family's WDW items - the stack of LED necklaces, the rain ponchos, the three huge - flat - inflatable tubes we use at Stormalong Bay at the YC, our over-the-door shoe/toiletries hanger, etc.! It does hold a lot and is very stable when rolling - unlike some brands.

According to the LL Bean website, the large is 15 x 30 x 13. One test would be to grab stacks of clothes and such and arrange them on your bed in those dimensions to see how much you'd be able to fit. Just a thought.

I bought 4 large ones last year for our trip. They are hugh. We were worried that we would hit the 50 pound limit with it. It is a great size for an adult but I am thinking of buying the medium ones for shorter trips.

The only thing is that if they are stuck in a pouring rain somethings inside will get wet. They were loaded for the Disney Express and we think that they were on the top of the pile and it rained very hard that last day. Some things did get wet but that was on the way home so it was no big deal and I don't think anything valuable got ruined.

We love them. We got 4 different colors and had them monogramed. They rolled very nicely. But watch out for the weight on the big ones.

My DD16 has a really pretty blue one, but she saw the new pink ones and says she NEEDS a new one!!! ;)

We have a dark blue one because I knew DH would be using it too and wouldn't want pink!! Ours are monogrammed too and like I said, they are great at the airport!!

When I first starting travelling, it was with those zippered vinyl or cloth soft sided suitcases. After getting one ripped, (and I think I had a hard sided one that came down the conveyor belt unlatched...), I got in the habit of putting a big garbage bag in my suitcase and packing the clothes in the bag, which I tied shut before closing the suitcase.

Might be a good idea for these duffles too.

Back to the LLBean Rolling Duffles: which seems to be the largest size one can use as a carry on?

That sounds like a good idea.

I'm off to the LL Bean site. :) I wanted to get new carry ons for our trip. These would work great.

I don't have this luggage, but can attest to the quality of LL Bean's items. I have one of their backpacks and have had it for over 15 years. They will also replace an item that is showing signs of wear and tear. Their product guarantee is top notch

I'm lucky- I work in Freeport and can swing into the outlet store on my way home from work sometimes.:cool1:

At Christmastime, I got one of their zippered Boat n' Totes for less than $10.. I was thrilled! It's the medium sized and I'm planning to use it as a carry-on when my kids and I go to WDW this fall.

I also have one of their original knap-sacks- I got it when I was 16 and I still use the thing- Let's just say my 25th HS reunion has come and gone, so that's saying something for the quality.

Bean's does have a terrific return policy- good stuff for (mostly) reasonable prices and if you're not happy, they'll usually take it back without question.

OK, I might admit that we have too many pieces of LL Bean luggage. We live near several outlet stores so it makes it possible to accumulate them without breaking the bank.

We have three of the rolling adventure duffles in the medium size and one without wheels. Definitely go with wheels. We also have one of the sportsman's duffles. It looks nicer but again, go with wheels. The mediums work fine if you're a careful packer. You can do a 5 or 6 day week in them if you're wearing t-shirts and shorts. If you need fancier clothes, jeans or winter clothes for the way home, you might want a large.

My dh has a slightly larger rolling bag from Bean's which still meets the carry-on guidelines. I can tell you that our four rolling bags neatly fill one Southwest overhead bin. :)

We have two large adventure duffles - they make pretty good ski boot and helmet bags - and when they're packed to the gills, they can be pretty heavy. (This is for two kids - plus assorted water bottles, gaiters, and miscellaneous junk.) You can also pack pretty much an eight day vacation for a large teenage boy wearing clean jeans, t-shirt and button downs every day in one of these.

The really large ones fit a very well equipped dive trip for two people, without the tanks, into one of them. Definitely go for wheels. One family can pack into it for a week.

The family size personal organizer is great, if you're driving. The new rules on carrying liquids and gels make it pretty much a no-go as a carry-on. You could probably pack it into another bag so that it was semi-rigid.

The extra large ones also are ideal for a weekend parent/child scout sleepover. You can get both people's clothes, sleeping bags and pillows easily in one. So much easier than trying to find/carry 6+ different items in everyone's stuff.
(Not that we've ever done this besides, oh, several times a year. :thumbsup2)
