Lizzie McGuire Movie some spoiler

Hi All,

My family and I got free passes to a screening of Disney's latest. My 5 year old daughter is a huge fan so we all went, me DH, DS (11) and DD (5). We really enjoyed the movie. It had something for everyone. BUT I had a few issues with the movie. First of all, they have Lizzie, who is supposed to be 13/14 sneaking off and running around Rome with a 17 year old boy, granted there's a bodyguard some of the time, but still, I was a bit concerned about that. Hubby not as much so. I thought it could have been sending the wrong message, they could have had Gordo in on the adventure or something. Second, half the time she looked at least 21 in the movie. In this age of Brittney's it's pretty hard to get young girls to realize that they can actually dress their age. I've always thought they had Lizzie wearing too much makeup, but her clothes were ok, not great, but ok, in the movie several times, she's dressed in clothes I wasn't allowed to wear until I was at least 16 or 17. What kind of message does this send our daughters? I know the obvious is to not let them watch it, but they do end up seeing it everywhere. I really had hoped that Disney would tone it down. Is there a place to send feeback about the movie ? The woman in line in front of me said that she heard this was going to become a series of movies. Anyways just M2cents.

As far as I know, Hillary Duff is approximatly the age of Lizzie McGuire, so not only is the character dressing inappropriatly, so is the star.


Of course, we're dealing with an age where clothing companies market thong underwear to tweenage kids. Lizzie is still very conservative compared to that.

My 11yr old DD loves Lizzie the show too. And we have discussed how she is dressing differently on the show too this yr. , as well as the make up issue. We both agree they are making her look like she is growing up too fast! I have a smart DD
Hopefully this will not continue into next season. I would hate to see Lizzie/Hillery turn into another Brittney! And thank God around here Brittney's and Christinas are not cool with 11 yr olds any more!

Lizzie (Hilary) is one hot commodity and taking it to the next level means pushing the envelope. If you think the fashions being worn in a movie or TV show are inappropriate for your family, don't watch them.

Writing a letter is futile because movie makers and big company moguls care about the bottom line only...Besides, this is going to be a huge movie, IMO, and a complaint over Lizzie's clothes is more likely to be met with laughter than seriousness.

Additionally, while I have not yet seen the movie, Lizzie McGuire is a regular around this household and while we certainly don't like all of the fashions worn by Lizzie, they are far more tasteful than many things I see at my daughters school daily.

Also, don't think this "age of Brittney" is somethng new. Before her young girls dressed like Madonna (was this better?) before that Tiffany or a bevy of other pop princesses who were no better.

Lizzie wouldn't have nearly the following or success if Disney made her 'Miss Conservative". I for one am thankful that the Lizzie character is able to be a pretty good teen role model while still maintaining her individuality and keeping credibility with her intended audience.

As for Brittney & Christina's popularity...Don't misconstrue what your child likes with what is being revered by her peers...

Now for the movie, I asked my daughter and she thought Lizzie was playing a character of about 15 now (as Yoho alluded to, close to her actual age)...

But back to Lizzie's questionable fashions? This is no issue with this father of two girls.

I don't usually watch Lizzie on the disney channel - but I've seen promos for the movie.

I thought this was a 'post graduation' trip to Rome...putting her "character" aroudn the 17/18 age?

yep - doesn't jive with the Lizzie series of course.

I agree - the star and character both dress too old though...

She's graduating from junior high, 8th grade basically. Overall I think the character of Lizzie is wonderful. She's not perfect, but has a good heart, is clumsy but cute, lot's of positive things for girls. But the pressure is there for girls to look and act much older than they are. I think they can continue this whole franchise and still keep Lizzie looking her age. It's not a debate just an opinion of the movie and I think people who make the movies should hear the opinions of the people who are going to pay to see them.

It is a post-graduation trip...form 8th Grade! Hilary's apparently playing a 14 year old here.

ok - thanks for clearing that up for me! that makes sense...

ok, yeah, I totally understand with the other parents here (not being a parent yet myself).

I see my fiance's little sister...she's 14 going on 28...and has been like that for a while. I guess times are just changing...dont' agree with it...but I guess that's what the media is doing to these little girls.

There is no next season. The last five episodes of Lizzie McGuire are airing in the next couple of months. Production on the series ended last June when the show reached the 65-episode limit imposed on all Disney Channel original series.

Of course they'll air reruns of the show for years to come, and if the movie does well there are plans for two sequels. Additionally, ABC is toying with the idea of having a "Lizzie in High School" prime time series, but with a different actress playing Lizzie (bad idea).

So basically, I just defeated the entire point of this post. Lizzie's gonna be here for a while!

Why would they have an episode limit ? Lizzie is a big hit, why stop now.

Disney Channel's executives have stated publicly that there are two main reasons for their strict episode limit:

1) Capping a series at 65 episodes ensures that the show's characters/actors won't outgrow Disney's primarily 9-to-14-year-old audience. In the case of LM, the characters are now ending middle school, and Disney Channel won't allow a high school setting in an original series (Note that the kids on Even Stevens have been stuck in eight grade for two years now).
In real life, Hilary Duff and Lalaine are now 15 (almost 16) while Adam Lamberg is 18 and in his first year of college.

2) It's cheaper.

I had heard an interview with Hillary Duff that mentioned the show going to ABC, wonder why they would even consider a different actress playing Lizzie, now that she's got the show and a movie as this character under her belt, seems like it would be a little cheesy to bring in someone new. Especially if HD is still going to be doing the movies. I will never understand network executives.
