"Livestrong" mickey bracelets?

Very interesting thread...over 3 years ago my daughter started wearing wide rubberbands and decorating them with words..too bad she didn't patented the idea before someone thought it would be a good fund raiser. Isn't it interesting how a child's idea can become so popular.

Personally, I can't wait to pick up several for me, my family and some friends, knowing the only one proffiting from this is ME!!!! Because everytime I see it I will smile and think of the most magical place there is... :goodvibes
I LOVE the MOUSE!!!!!

OK, I'm a cancer survivor - twice now and dang glad of it. I wear the Livestrong bracelet and so do my daughter, my parents, and a lot of friends. However, for everyone getting hot that Livestrong is being copied...... well, the yellow bracelet for Livestrong came AFTER these bracelets, in many colors, were hot among the basketball crowd. Lance's group did not invent these, but hopped on a hot bandwagon. (And for the person who brought up the 'various colored bracelets' - those are the thin 80's-Madonna-style bracelets, not these thick ones. And yeah, it was pretty much a myth until it got publicized.)

Yes, it was for a good cause. Yes, our $1 per bracelet will go to fund some good research and trials. Yes, I have bought a bunch for family and friends. But if I want to buy DD7 a Mickey bracelet, well, good for me. That $2 purchase won't stop me from donating a heck of a lot more than that to good causes. A direct donation always gets a lot more money to the cause than purchasing something anyway.......

mking624 - In reference to my quote abut Disney not getting anymore of my money, I am referencing this post only since that is what we are discussing. I didn't say I was going to stop vacationing to Disney, I was adding my opinion to the replies posted that is all. I wasn't judging any of those who are planning on buying these bracelets as that's not what the replies are about either. Since all posts are supposed to be in reference to each person's own reply, for me, I would rather my money go towards cancer research then in Disney's pockets for more profit. I have every right to choose how to spend my money, just like everyone else.

Did anyone read about the lttle character in IT's A small world that started all this? I just read a post that qouted Disney as saying that the Live Strong bracelet on the boy in the ride was put there by a worker and has since been removed

I'm definitely going to buy a few. They're cute and trendy and inexpensive. Bracelets with messages are not new, both political parties did it during/after the last election, high schools and sports teams are producing them.

For those of us who went to jr high and high school in the 80's, remember the round rubber bracelets (the diameter of spaghetti) that you would twist two or three together... Or what about the WWJD bracelets... Or the little skinny watches that are popular today... Even Swatches in the 80's...
I went to a YMCA camp for several summers and we would make and wear lanyard bracelets...

I understand that some of you don't agree, but personally I have no problem with the Disney ones.

Thanks to this thread I just bought 2 lime green ones for my DD and I to wear on our vacation! I can't wait to get them! :sunny:

Before bashing Disney for making a few bucks on a hot trend, has anyone stopped to consider how much $$ Disney has donated to charities and even the local economy?Would it help matters if they didnt donate any money to charity EXCEPT a portion of the bracelets . I dont think so. Let Disney sell what they want if you want it buy it if not dont criticize them for engaging in capitalism

::yes:: My thoughts exactly!!! ::yes::

Partially OT

For those that would like to see how WDW compares on charitable donations check out this Forbe's Table
And take notice of the grades they give each company too.

After seeing this table I think maybe WalMart should do more for their employees and a little less for charity. And check out Coke an American Company yet they are known for helping outside the US. :confused3

I'm sure there are other place where we could find out exactly what WDW donates and who they donate too but thats what I came up with.

I'm confused... are you saying this is a good thing, or a bad thing? Coke profits from sales all over the world, so it's only fair that the rest of the world should benefit from their generosity IMHO.
