Hi all! I'm at SSR and loving it! I'm posting a Live thread on the Adult and Solo Traveler Board at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2493765 if you want to follow along.

All o fmy concerns about SSR, totally not valid. This is an awesome resort. My studio is beautiful, clean and quiet with a wonderful view. I just could not be happier. :)

Glad to hear that your trip is off to a great start and that you're enjoying SSR. :thumbsup2

Just curious...what were "all your concerns" about SSR?

Great!:thumbsup2 Now I'll go and read what you have to say on the other thread!

From your TR on the Solo Boards I see you got your request of the Springs Area, congrats! As far resorts go, I've been pleased with all of them, OKW is still my favorite, but I love SSR as well. My preferred area is Congress Park, We love being close to DTD. Glad your trip is going well so far!

I had read some very negative things about SSR, dirty rooms, awful bus service, bad food and really unfriendly CM's. I have found NONE of those to be true in my case. I actually did a bed bug check along the mattress edge and saw no evidence of any problems. My studio is immaculate and the CM's can't be nicer. The bus service has been excellent with waits of max 10 minutes. Just perfect.

I would stay at SSR again without hesitation. :thumbsup2

Oh, don't let threads on these boards get you all worried about anything. Substitute any DVC resort for SSR in your first sentence and I can find multiple threads on it.

I'm not saying DVC is perfect every time, but as is the case in most aspects of life, it's the bad news that gets the most publicity. Glad to hear that you are enjoying your stay. :)

I couldn't agree more. :thumbsup2 I remember posting on your thread several months ago when you expressed concern about only being able to get SSR for a solo trip. I mentioned my December solo trip and how I had also dreaded staying there. BUT, I ended up really enjoying it, too. :lovestruc While I might favor another DVC resort over SSR, I would have no hesitation to stay there if that's all that was available. I'm glad you now feel the same way.

I'm glad you're where you're happy, but some people have to be in Carousel, and that's what stops me from wanting to book SSR. I for one hope there can eventually be section guarantees. We do have a treehouse stay:thumbsup2 for one night coming up before our DCL cruise.

What would be the advantage of the Carousel section?

I'm saying that the Carousel section is bad according to posts that I've read...and I don't want to be there. Now, this is from hearsay only...but isn't that the section with the firehouse right across the street. There's not a convenient pool, again just from what I read. I am saying that because of what I've read here, I've been reluctant to have a stay at SSR other than treehouse. We stayed in Congress Park but that was when the resort just opened and that was all there was.

Totally agree! I never made requests in the past of where and what view I might want, I just left it to, I guess a toss of the MS dice and I had truthfully never been disapointed at any resort. However, my 1st 2 stays at SSR, I ended up in the same Bldg. twice, Carousel section, view of the parking lot, guard gate and road. How could this happen twice? I've never had the same accomodations twice in 30+ stays. I think if you don't make a request at SSR and it's packed, there's a good chance you may end up in no man's land (Carousel) Did this ruin my stays, absolutely not, it is in the end about the vacation and spending time with friends and loved ones. However, for me, I enjoy the resort even more than the theme parks. I love having coffee, drinks whatever out on my balcony, it doesn't matter if it's the 95/30 degrees outside, I like to start and end my day that way. Probably one of the reasons I love OKW so much. That area of Carousel is remote, far from everything and I love to walk but it's dismal. It's far from everyhting- Ie: The Turf CLub, The Artist Palette, The Pool and a bus stop.

This last stay I requested and hoped to get Congress Park, what a huge difference it made for me. A beautiful panoramic view of DTD, made even more spectacular by nightfall. :cloud9: We all enjoyed the balconies of our 2 br. It makes a difference for me but for others it may not. I don't particularly care for the decor of BLT but I don't think there a bad resort in the whole DVC lot, that's the beauty of DVC, there are however preferences! After the Congress Park stay, I ranked SSR as my second favorite, after OKW!

We have stayed at SSR a few times. Our last trip we were in the Paddock area. The fire station was by this section, but completely unnoticeable.

Now, I had requested the Springs or Grandstand, next on the list was Congress Park. As I stated above we didn't get any of our top three requests...HOWEVER....we were soooo impressed with the Paddock area we would never have a problem staying in that section again. It was a very pleasant walk to the main building and pool. Bus and quiet pool were extremely close and it was an easy walk to/from DTD. This is a section I never wanted to be in but have completely changed the way I think.

That being said, I don't know if anything would change my mind about the Carousel section.

Before I left SSR this morning (sniff), I took a long walk around the entire resort. What a beautiful resort! I wish I'd taken the time to walk around it much earlier in my stay.

I also realized that I could have gotten off the park bus at the Paddock stop and had a very pleasant, short walk to the Springs section that would have gotten me there before the bus did. Woops. Ahh well, something for next time.

I agree with the poster who said that there really is no "bad" DVC resort. They are all lovely, just in different ways. Everytime I've thought "oh..I'd never want to stay there" and then actually stayed at that resort, I've come away highly impressed. So, I will certainly be staying at SSR again w/o hesitation.
