Hey guys, thanks for the reports!!! I haven't been on since Saturday and took an hour and a half to get caught up!!! Only 300 young ones :confused3 Wow!!! Mine are 13 and 15 and I still think this panama canal sailing would be a great experience for them.....I had booked this sailing and had to cancell when we purchased our new house (last Oct.) but looks like our old one may be sold.....maybe I can sneek into the Eastbound repo sailing....I'll wait till final pmts. are due to see what opens up!!!

No, I think they're significantly west of the eastern Caribbean route. They should be passing between Cuba and Haiti.

Actually Curacao is southeast of Gorda Cay (Castaway Cay) so depending on which way they go the route would be similar to an eastern caribbean.

Taking the normal eastern route, making a right before Puerto Rico, and heading directly south towards Curacao is a possible route.

BTW...both Cuba and Haiti are south of Castaway Cay so they won't be heading west until Wednesday evening when they leave Curacao.

The route maps that Disney published for this cruise showed the Cuba/Haiti route... it is a little twisty!

So, following that published route, they'd leave Gorda Cay and travel South/Southwest to pass between Cuba and Haiti, then adjust and head South/Southeast to get to Curacao... Though it's true that they could have chosen to adjust the route to the east to travel closer to the Virgin Islands and the St. Martin direction had the weather made that necessary.

From the reports from the cruisers, sounds like they took the more western direction, though. (They were making jokes about being able to see Cuba.) :)

Here's a map that sort of shows the two routes. Just substitute Castaway Cay for Princess Cays, and St. Maarten for St. Thomas. (Sort of. :teeth: ) The more western line is the one I think they're following:

Condolances to those who lost a family member/friend on this cruise. I can only imagine how difficult that must be.

Yes, stand in line to get a voucher, once you have the voucher you can go back any time up till 10:00 to purchase it the same day. That line is somewhat short. The t-shirts are the $22.00 range, it looks like the "hubcap" design. My feeling is you will soon see all of these put up on ebay! :sad2:

Bye Bye!

Robin

regarding the pins...would you know if they are only for the panama canal special repo cruises? or are they also doing this voucher thing for the rest of the west coast cruises? :flower:

I think it's just for the repo cruise where Disney, in their infinite wisdom, decided to release a whole set of LE 500 pins on a cruise full of absolute Disney fanatics. Since some people have never heard of the concept of only buying their fair share, they have to do this voucher nonsense to keep one person from buying all 500 and putting them up on ebay. Unless there are any special pins announced for those cruises (and I haven't heard of any) then you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Normally no. If they release anything "special" for the Western cruises, maybe they'll voucher those pins only.

Hi Jeff,
I posted prior my condolences to those affected by this, and I'm so sorry to even imagine this happening. I certainly respect the families privacy.

Try to remember what it is like being back here and reading updates. When someone announces that a DISer has passed away (and on Castaway Cay no less) those that are here reading about it are saddened and scared that it may be someone that they know. Natural curiosity and worry will take over and you want to know that your friends are all okay.

I am sure no one wants speculation on what happened, but to announce that someone has passed and then to say we are not giving any details at all is not (in my opinion) a good way to handle this. I am sure everyone involved in this is extrememly saddened and deeply affected in many ways. Please try to remember how hard it is on those of us back home who have not heard anything and do not know if this was someone we knew.

Sue Ellen

I agree, but unfortunatly the news made it to the disboards anyway, and speculation was beginning. I am putting an end to it. If they were a friend of yours, you will know already.

I didn't make the annoucement, and in fact am disappointed that it was made. The problem is, this is not the forum for such discussion. I have already spoken with the remaining people on board and they have stated that they will make an announcement to the disboards when the time is right for them. This is *THEIR* right and no one here should speculate until that moment comes. All I can say to everyone back home is to wait until that time. Its unfortunante, but if it was your mother or father or aunt or uncle who passed, you'd want the same thing. The posting on the Cruisetober thread was wholly inappropriate, contained nothing but speculation, and did nothing but cause panic among disboarders wondering if it was thier loved one. Please trust me, as someone who was there and has spoken to the members of the sailing party that stayed behind, those who need to know, have been informed, and they will inform this community when the time is right.

This is also my last post on this subject. I'm a former (Not that you ever really are former) EMT, and I'm on vacation. I'll do what I need to when pressed, but I think we all need to move on from this subject. Do not hesitate to post condolences, they have been seen and are appreciated, but please stop with any other speculation or requests for information.

Again, my condolences to everyone involved.

I've already asked my boss if I can "work from home" on Friday. Hey! That would be the same day the Magic is going through the canal. Would imagine that. :rolleyes1 I guess I'll just have to watch some of it, for posterity's sake and all.

Does anyone know if DCL will do the murder mystery on future cruise? That sounds like so much fun. In fact, all your cruise plans sound fantastic. Only 300 kids would be heaven.

Sorry for all the pin troubles. I'd just wait until they're on eBay. The extra few dollars is worth not having to stand in line. For me, anyway.

One other qustion - I thought cruise was sold out though, wer there a lot of cancellations.

I know on the 10 day Christmas cruise they said kids club had 1000 kids and like you said there are more not in kids club. I know the reason for most of us DCL loyal customers to not be on this cruise or the Aug repo is kids school schedules. Your kids would have to be home schooled or younger. Other than that we would be there.

When do most of you have the kids go back to school after summer break? We don't go back until Sept 6 (Tues). Do alot of the children go back in Aug?

We are on the Aug. Repo and my DD8 will miss the first 2 weeks of 3rd grade. Her school starts back on August 23rd.

When I talked to the school principal a while back about the schedule and my DD missing school, she said she knew of no greater educational experience than going through the Panama Canal and told us to "Go - have a great time!". Having the principal's blessing was all I needed to know we did the right thing taking her out of school!

I'm in California and we go back the Wednesday after Labor Day. Which is why we've been doing our Florida vacations the two weeks in August (7 day cruise, one week at DVC-WDW). The cheaper hotel rates at WDW set in, and the parks are empty. Granted, we have to deal with hurricanes, and stuff like that.
Oh, did I mention that the parks are empty cuz they're closed due to the hurricane....LOL!!!! It comes down to how much you hate crowds!!!

Thanks to all who have posted 'live' updates from onboard...Especially LOVED the pictures!

I wanted to express my deepest condolences to the family as well as to all the Diser's who knew the individual who has passed away. Unfortunately, once the information is posted about such an unfortunate event..your life then turns into a fish bowl...for all to 'read' and be made aware of.

I send you all my prayers...and wish that you and your family get to grieve with all your loved ones surrounded by you. Life is too short and we should all fully enjoy it to the last moment.....my prayers are that this individual was able to enjoy life to the fullest until the last moment when the calling from above came.

For all those who remain on the cruise...I cannot begin to imagine how difficult this must be. I send you all much pixie dust and good wishes so that you are all able to enjoy yourselves for the rest of this amazing cruise.

I am sure you are a strong and closely connected group of diser's! You have been posting for sometime now!

Sending you all :grouphug: as well as some :wizard:

I was on the Magic in December for the Christmas cruise. Taylor Mason is awesome! If you're an adult, go and see both shows! :rotfl2:

Is Freddy Fusion on board?

My DH and I are going on the 6/11 West Coast Cruise. I'm counting the days!

To the family and friends of the deceased - my deepest condolences.

I don't think the original poster was trying to create panic - just letting the DIS family know what is going on. You are 100% correct however that right should be with the immediate family.

To those left onboard may the days ahead be filled with many happy memories. To those who left may you find peace in hopefully knowing your loved one was in one paradise and moved on to another.

:earsgirl: I am wondering what the Magic does for Sunday Worship Services. I would like the opportunity to attend Mass during the August repo cruise. Please drop a line if anyone knows. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in Advance,
Carla

The last two cruises I've been on there is a Sunday service. It is not a mass, but it is a chance to worship while on board.

We live in Ca. and our school starts Aug. 23, we were going to take our kids on the repo cruise but because they are in high school it becomes a little more crucial that they not miss any time. Besides my ds who is involved in the sports program says it would be impossible for him to get away. I say all that to explain why my dh and I will be on the Aug. repo cruise alone :goodvibes It will be one of the first times we've taken a vacation without our kids and I'm really hoping that more than just a few people on the Aug. repo get the chance to buy the special repo souvenirs that disney has created. We'll just have to wait and see

I would like to thank everyone on board for posting all about your wonderful vacation. I can not wait until Aug. I'm even more excited that i will be celbrating my birthday on board. Ive celebrated at disneyland the last 2 years and it was so magical. I can only imagine what it will be like on the cruise.

My prayers go out to he family. My heart goes out to you.
