I thought I would give a live update on security and carryons

My luggage was selected fro random serach at the check in counter. They take everything out and they repack for you! I got compliments for being organized. Just in case I had used my Eagle Creek pack cubes and that worked very well! I did not realize you could NOT repack

Before you go thru security I was asked to show my ID and a ticket thing that SW had given me.

My carryon has a CD player and a digital camera. No problem with them. The buckle on my belt did set off the metal detector!

This place is a ghost town!

I have a simple question for you. Did you carry disposable rasers in your luggage? I have heard that you cannot carry those in your luggage.

According to the newspaper today, disposable razors are now being allowed in your luggage (but not in your carryon). I had disposable razors in my luggage when I flew on 9/14 and they did not confiscate them when they did the search.

Thanks Firefighter Mickey. My husband was getting a little STRESSED out that they would not allow that item especially when you cannot get to your checked in luggage while on the airplane.

I re-read the article, and some of this stuff may vary from airport to airport. The airport being reported on was DIA. Frankly, I am at a loss to explain how a disposable razor blade in my checked luggage poses a possible security issue.....

In any event, disposable razor blades are usually fairly easy to aquire at any particular destination.

My flight on the 14th was uneventful, except for being very late. Hopefully your husband will be able to de-stress a little.

they wouldn't let you re-pack your luggage??? how did they re-pack your luggage? a big wrinkled mess?? how many eagle creek packing units did you use & did they open each of those, too? (better call magellans & order some tomorrow....) if you brought a carryon, did they open & inspect the contents?

That is correct, once they have taken control of your luggage, you cannot touch it again until you pick it up in baggage claim at your destination. The young man that unpacked my luggage was fairly careful in the re-packing process; generally putting everything back in exactly as he took it out.

Your carry-on luggage may also be searched as you go thru security.

One comment the person doing the checked luggage search made was that "people shouldn't be embarrased, as they've seen it all" - now frankly, I doubt my imagination is up to the task of what "all" they've seen. Maybe we should start a thread about "what's the strangest thing you've ever packed in your luggage?"

I am now two for two on the luggage search!

On my flight home from West Palm Beach yesterday my checked bag was searched again.

As for the Eagle Creek bags. I used the large pack it folder for my clothes and then I had two cubes, one with underwear and socks and one with misc other stuff (swimsuit etc.) I asked about the razor and they said that was fine as long as it was in the checked bags.

I found all three airports I experienced on this trip (Nashville, West Palm Beach and Orlando) very empty. The stores and food places have cut back their hours a lot!

Firefighter Mickey,
I believe one of the weapons made by the terrorist came from a disposable razor in his shaving kit. Those things are sharp, as the scars on my legs can prove, and could be a potential weapon. I would assume that is why they are banned.

In a carryon, I can understand them not allowing them (though it seems pretty silly to not allow them thru security but still allow you to purchase them from a concession stand in the secure area). But to not allow them in checked baggage seems pretty silly.
