Good Morning!
I only have a few minutes to post as I have a weeks worth of work to catch up on.
First, since there is a post by another 1/25 cruiser about her dh being sick, please, buy
trip insurance. Regardless of your health insurance coverage, trip insurance is invaluable.
None of us became ill, except my dsis and I did come down with colds. Our server had one and I think we may have caught it from her. Unfortunately, this can happen anywhere, anytime, no blame on anyone.
Our assistant server left a lot to be desired. He was nice enough, but I am still waiting for my milk and the rest of my party is waiting for coffee. He just was not the best. Our stateroom host fell into the same category. He did not step up until tip time...did the bare minimum all week...basically made our bed and replaced the towels. Sometimes, some are better than others. Palo's brunch is a must. Request Gabriella. She is fantastic. Also, dueling pianos with Fidelio and Jeff is the best. They are great entertainers and a lot of fun!! (Jeff--Hi from Wakefield)
As I stated before, about 20 people debarked in St Martin and were given the option of another 7 day cruise due to illness and one child falling out of his bunk and requiring stitches.
As far as self service buffets, many people tried to serve themselves at the buffets even when it was clear that they were not supposed to. I never served myself, always requested that the server give me what I wanted. As far as wipes, they were handing them out although many people chose not to use them. I carried my own on board and used them very frequently, even in between meals.
The hot tub had so much chlorine in it on the first day, I had to get out of it as I could not breathe. It seemed to lessen as the cruise progressed, but I'm sure they kept the levels high.
DCL is trying (in my opinion) to keep any sickness to a minimum. It is the people on board that cause some of the problems. If you are not supposed to serve yourself, DON'T, and if they give you a wipe, use it. I must have washed my hands 25 times a day plus used wipes very frequently.
On Friday at Topsiders breakfast, a woman came in and was handed a tray. She was directly in front of me in line, so I could see the whole thing. She was barefoot and as soon as the server saw her, he very respectfully told her she could not be in the diningroom without shoes; that she had to put shoes on before she could be served. She put up a stink, looked at the servers name tag and stormed out. The server immediately reported the incident to his supervisor. We told both the supervisor and the server that he did nothing wrong and was very polite in his tone to the woman. The supervisor went out after the woman. Some people just don't get it.
There are signs in the restrooms about washing your hands. I guess people still have to be reminded to do so. When we were leaving Logan on Friday, I cannot tell you how many women were coming out of stalls and not washing their hands. It was disgusting. No wonder virus spread so quickly.
I have to go to work now. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will do my best to answer them.
Dave: I will be sending the navigators out to you this week.
