Live from SSR (until 10/21) (ADDED PHOTOS)

Glad to hear you are having a great trip.

Could you tell me a little about the movie setup? I hear the screen floats in the pool. Is that true? Sounds like a blast.

Thanks

I have to ask you this...asking everyone who is there now. Do your sheets fit your beds? Got back from SSR in Sept and the sheets didn't get to the bottom of the mattress on the sides and just kept coming off...couldn't sleep all week on bare mattress...so I wrote to Disney and executive office left a message for me that this was passed onto the appropriate people, and if I want to speak directly to call back...so is it fixed?
:confused3 We return in Nov and I hope I don't have to pack sheets to take with me....

Hi Brogan,
I was the one who reported the broken Donald. We were there last week of Sept and while eating our breakfast by the not yet opened pool, my DD7 said hey Mom, Donalds nose is broken. It looked as if someone had cracked it right off. I told a CM at the front desk about it and the next day he was covered with a tarp then he was gone. Thank goodness the water horse spray area was working at the Grandstand!!!

Have you seen the little black cat yet??

We just got back yesterday, so I thought I'd chime in and say our sheets just hung--they weren't tucked in at all. Even with all the thrashing our boys do, they stayed put.

Hi again everyone!

I'm checking in while I have the chance. I hope to post pictures here but I'm late for the pool and need to download, resize and post upload them to the net first. I think I'll be in the pool by then.

Anyway (while I'm waiting for my turn in the shower) I'll give you another update on our trip.

Thursday we all headed for EPCOT Future World. The plan was simply to take the kids to Future World and see what rides we could convince them to try. (The 6 y.o. get anxious about everything and the 8 y.o. imitates him.) Troubles did creep up.

First off, I woke up late. No morning walk as I had hoped to do. Instead I showered, dressed, and ran off to AP for my morning hot chocolate. I left instructions for everyone to meet at the park (my sis would have taken forever otherwise). On my way to AP I saw Alf the bus coordinator and asked when the next bus was: 10 minutes. No problem. That is until I returned a few minutes later and found my dad sitting in his scooter talking to two other scooter drivers (DIS Tinkerbell's dad-in-law and grandma). They were headed to EPCOT too which meant we'd have to take two busses.

Alf got on the radio as soon as he saw us and tried to hurry up the busses while Tinkerbell's dad tried to find space on the very crowded EPCOT bus. Dad and I thought about the wait a minute then remembered we had a fully accessible minivan in the parking lot. So we told Alf to cancel the call and we'd drive. Next we know we're in a race to see if we can beat our scooter rivals to the park.

Now for those of you who have never seen an adapted minivan it is the coolest (and most expensive) ride you'll ever see. Press a button and the side door opens, ramp deploys, I drive in and park in the front passenger seat, start the car with the push of a button, my dad drives his scooter into the middle bay, closes the ramp and door (another push of a button), walks around to the driver's seat and off we go. We were pulling out as the bus was still pulling up its ramp and the driver tying down the scooters.

We took the same route in, got a little held up at the parking booths (a load of coaches paid and entered ahead of us), but we were driving up to the gates just as our scooter buddies were exiting the bus lot. We all had such a good laugh over that we ended up sharing a breakfast at Seasons in the Land Pavilion.

Now for all you resort guests the lesson learned here is that a car gets you to the parks pretty much at the same time as a bus. The only difference is that you never have to wait for your ride. Downside is you'll have to keep picking up your car in the park lots.

Dad and I got Fast Passes for Soarin' and waited for my sis to arrive. She found us after breakfast just as we were going to Circle of Life. For those keeping tabs yes it is a movie and yes my 6 y.o. nephew fears movies. Just as we sat into the theatre when the lights dimmed, he started wailing that he needed to go to the bathroom. My sis was forced to take him out and all the adults groaned about another loooong day with a skittish kid. But just as we had planned to take turns sitting with him when he freaks, he decides he's going to see the movie with mommy. And he loves it. He declares he wants to do it again and again. Thus begins our day of "I'm too scared" followed by "I wanna ride again".

The boat ride at the land scared both boys until they went on. Then it was "cool". (The 6 y.o. dared me to ride Test Track with him instead. I said if he was too young to ride the boat he was too young to ride Test Track. That psychology worked apparently.) The Nemo ride scared them but was "great" and repeated about 3 times. Turtle Talk was a huge hit and we never could get them out of the Living Seas until they saw every fish.

This was also the day of the first rain. The downpour occurred just as I was off to get fast passes for Test Track. Of course it shut down the ride so none us ended up riding it that day. I got wet but it was a warm rain.

After after lunch we split up for the afternoon. We had the luau planned for 7:30 and Dad and I had spare clothes in the van. So we stayed at EPCOT and met everyone later for the luau. I'm pleased to say my sis' bus hopping worked perfectly as they made a round trip home to SSR to change yet beat us to the Poly. And the luau was a raving success for everyone. My BIL got to celebrate his birthday with a hula dance and cake. Both my sis and BIL celebrated their anniversary with an Hawaiian dance. And the boys learned their hula moves up on stage with all the kids. (We had them show us later after dinner and they amazingly remembered a lot.)

Friday was their last day so we started with breakfast at Chef Mickey's. Again we learned how easy it is to miss then beat a bus. As Dad and I were getting coffee, the Magic Kingdom bus arrived and departed at 7:40am. (I was there at 7:35am.) So rather than wait for the next one, we hopped in the van. We were arriving at Chef Mickey's as my sis stepped off the monorail.

Of course the boys loved Mickey and characters. My sis surprised me with a birthday cupcake (and a very nice signed placemat from the characters). Since my birthday is the only one actually in October, it was nice.

But after breakfast we decided to split up again. Seems our van was low on gas and put the engine warning light on. So my dad and sis went off to the Car Care Center near Richard Petty. I walked over to Magic Kingdom with my BIL and the boys. I needed to stay with them as I had the only cell phone. We rode Buzz a couple times, then the boys did the Indy cars. It was an absolute mob there, btw. The last couple days have seen some of the biggest crowds I've ever seen.

By the time my sis and dad arrived my 6 y.o. nephew was willing to try the Laugh Factory. Yes, this is an attraction he absolute freaked about Tuesday. But today I used my psych degree on him. He loudly announced he needed to use the bathroom just as we were in the pre-show area. So I asked him to name all the characters in Monsters Inc. The distraction helped him keep it together until we all sat down inside. Then he laughed harder than anyone and announced he wanted to do it again.

Next game Buzz again. Then the Jungle Cruise. I had ridden that the previous week and learned they would let kids drive the boat if they asked. So I talked the kids into doing it. For the 6 y.o. it came down to a little white lying. He asked if he had ridden it before. I said yes when he was 4 but he was too short to drive the boat. So then he was eager to do it again. And both boys did captain and received their official captain licenses.

We left by afternoon parade's end. It did threaten to rain again and we did get lost for a bit (my BIL really needs to carry his cell phone!), but we ended the day at the pool. SSR was showing Aladdin at 8:15 and everyone seemed to catch on. All the good tables were taken by 6pm as families settled in for the night of pool, dinner and movie.

All in all it was such a successful day that my sis and BIL started to think of returning next year instead of two years. For dad and I, well be careful what you wish for, I guess. ;) For me personally, well it was good and bad. I enjoyed introducing my sis to my Disney vacations but I didn't really get a chance to ride some of the harder to board rides. My sis was simply too busy keeping her skittish kids and "hates walking" hubby happy to help me and dad. I was hoping to ride Pirates for the first time in 3 years but I just never got the help or had the opportunity. (I sure wish they had updated the boarding procedures in their last face lift. When you have a disability you can be very impressed and horribly disappointed with the accessibility here. Magic Kingdom is the absolute worst because it is so old.)

Saturday we all checked out, spent the day at DTD and sent my sis home via the Magical Express. It was a truly rotten pool day with clouds and rain, so after my dad and I checked into our accessible studio (next door to the 2bedroom) we ended up doing a bit of late night park hopping. (MGM for Mermaid, then MK for parade, fireworks and 3 or 4 rides.)

This morning we're back to our normal routine. Up at 7-8am, coffee at AP and a walk through the resort (we did the Grandstand/Carousel route this time). We discovered the pool lift works in the spa as well so the lifeguards have that all set up for me.

And as predicted I'm fresh out of time so no pictures. But I will post some later. I have a ton, including those of the construction at the Contemporary
(it's even more than when I looked last week).

Oh you're the culprit!!!! Well at least Dad had a dry place tp park his scooter while watching the kids come down the big slide.

No black cat. Lots of salamanders, bunnies and ducks though.

How are the crowds at the parks? Wait times?

Friday and Saturday has been packed. 75 minutes for Splash Mountain. I saw 30 minutes at Haunted Mansion last night. Last Thursday it was 40 minutes for Soarin' in the AM but went up to 60-70 by noon.

I generally use a combination of Fast Passes and GAC so I don't pay much attention to wait times. If it's longer than 30 minutes, I usually just skip it for another time or Fast Pass it.

What I do notice is the level of pedestrian traffic around me. And the last two days it has been very difficult navigating my power chair in Magic Kingdom. It was impossible to catch Spectromagic last night since everyone and their brother was jockeying for position. I gave up when a kid and her parents muscled their way in front of me on the train station. (Yes it was an experiment in how oblivious and/or rude people can be to wheelchair users. I was amazed that they would rather scrape their ankles on my footplates than recognize the person sitting behind them.)

SSR Front Desk CMs said the resort was 99.1% booked yesterday and today was supposed to be the highest check in. I don't know why everyone's here. Columbus Day was last week. Next year, we're coming the first week of October.

Oh weather update: we had a rain storm just now. I was getting out of the spa (disabled folks, the pool lift works in the spa too!!!!) and suddenly the sprinkles turned to a gush. Everyone made a dash for the nearest umbrella. Some just dived into the hot tub instead. It ended after 10 minutes and the sun came out brighter than ever. Typical Florida weather.

I'm off to Food & Wine. Gotta drink and eat my way around the world.

We just left SSR today and were also surprised by how packed it was. F&WF on Friday was jam packed, though it got much better during EMH. I'm glad I read this thread to find out what happened to the splash area, we missed it but never asked what happened.

Tonight was better, I think. Rained pretty much all night. There was a run on ponchos but everyone seemed to have a good time. My dad covered his scooter with a pink princess poncho (I got him a clear adult one just to appease his manliness side) and I donned my see-thru poncho. Then it was drinking around the world. Gotta say I love the Food & Wine Festival and I'm very glad I wasn't driving.

I only feel bad for the folks heading to the MNSSHP tonight. They must have been soaked.

Hi Brogran.
My kids were so upset about Donalds nose broken (we did not do this, I think if I did my DD10 would have turned me in!!!) The day before, our kids were playing with Donald and having there-(aw mom another picture) in front of Donald, the next morning poof:sad2: D's nose was broken. It was very busy at the pool that night and not alot of people paying alot of attention to the mouse guards!!
GET BETTER SOON DONALD:hug:
You're TO was great, thanks!

I'm happy to report Donald is back in action as of yesterday (Tuesday 10/23).

I'm back home to the dreary cold & rain and about to sulk in bed a few days with a cold. I hate being home. In fact, I hate it so much that on the autotrain home I called MS and promptly made a week's reservations for next April. (No accessible studios but we figured we would try a regular studio with bath transfer bench.)

My dad and I found the studio unit worked just as well for us as a 1-bedroom. We just took our things to the guest laundry while enjoying the pool Monday. And if we use studios then we can stretch our points to 3 weeks a year. Given the choice I'd rather have more days to enjoy the resort than larger accommodations.

I discovered a few notable tidbits about the resort and Disney resorts in general my last couple days. First the pool lift works at the spa as well as the pool. Just ask the lifeguards to set it up for you. It's a self-operated chair for those who can't do steps but can slide transfer to seat.
SSRPoolLift.jpg

Second, in talking to the pool coordinator about the lifts and what other resort may be employing them, he said VWL was next on the list. Disney also planned to retrofit the VWL pool with a zero entry, as they will all the other pools onsite (CBR is next on the list for that).

And FWIW the coordinator said when they finished building the DVCs at the Contemporary the new pool would be zero entry. That was my unsolicited comment heard about a DVC there. So we can count the pool staff as one of those who know but aren't keeping a secret.

Third, our check out day we took the West Side walkway to DTD. (You pick it up just past Bell Services where the golf clubhouse is.) It was amazingly shorter than I expected. Only part not strung with lights in the golf course about 30 feet along the canal. Still I think there's enough ambient illumination to take the path at night. (Other SSR guests reported taking it this week.) It lets you off at House of Blues. I sure wish I had directed my sister to take that route last Wednesday instead of the Marketplace side. The walk left her with the same sour disposition we usually here on these boards.

Fourth, I had one of those trips when I was always missing the bus by just 2 minutes. Having my minivan just outside my door made it easy to make up for those disappointments. But then having bus service also made it easy for me to ditch my late night party at MK Friday (when I was tired and grumpy).

Fifth, my last full day I met my first BWV owner who actually preferred staying at SSR. She said she liked it because it wasn't so busy with people and enjoyed the walking paths. So I guess some of those creatures actually do exist. ;)

As for me, well the accessibility of the HSR pool (especially with that spa/pool lift) along with many other details are making SSR my favorite resort everywhere. The roll-in showers are just perfect (loved the pocket door for the studio bathroom) and only spilled water when I forgot to put the shower liner inside the threshold. (I'm going to base my planned roll-in show mod at home on SSR's design.) Now if only the doors didn't have that heavy spring-assist mechanism to make it hard opening and closing.

FWIW we stayed in rooms 3512 (a dedicated accessible 2-bedroom unit in the Springs, overlooks the parking lot but is nearest the pool/bus/DVC display unit entrance) and 3510 (a HA studio just next door). There seem to be a lot of HA units in that building. I saw double peepholes in about a half dozen doors on each floor. I know 3525 (the central 1bedroom) has a roll-in shower because I stayed there last December.

Could you tell me a little about the movie setup? I hear the screen floats in the pool. Is that true? Sounds like a blast.

Not sure I answered this one yet but here are the details:

Movies are scheduled M, W and F nights at 8:15pm (just after the slides shut down and lifeguards go off duty). The two weeks I was there they scheduled G movies on M and F and had a PG movie Wed. (Chicken Little, Pacifier and another cartoon I forgot for Friday.)

The screen is an inflatable giant screen in the corner by the big slide and pool steps. You can see it from the tables and chaises at the zero entry or just watch from the pool. And my dadpointed out you can see the reverse screen from the spa behind the big slide. (That's where the CM on duty watches.)

It's not in the water as it is an electronic device hooked up to a portable DVD player and very loud sound system. And yet if you sit up on the rocking chairs by AP you hardly hear it over the pleasant background jazz at the springs.

Here are some photos:

I ended up closing MK three times last week: M, T and this past Mon. Made friends with the CMs ushering people out of the park. So they asked my dad and I to sit in for a pic. I think it looks cute, don't you?

This is one of the best trip reports I have ever read!!! Kudos for taking the kids for you Sis and DBIL! Sounds like you had a spectacular time!

One more story of our semi-disastrous first day at MGM. I mention this because when I relayed the story to some CM's they laughed hysterically at the typical family vacation.

We all arrived Sunday 10/14 and settled into SSR. I'm big on making up general plans only as this is how my dad and I (frequent park visitors with annual passes and long trips) do things. But I quickly relearned the necessity of the all important PLAN FOR GROUPS and the subsequent ALL GROUPS BREAK THE PLAN AND DRIVE THE PLANNER TO HOMOCIDAL INSANITY AT LEAST ONCE, usually early in the trip.

Our plan for Monday was simple. Wake up early, hop an early bus to MGM and spend half the day there, then return in the afternoon for the pool and movie.

My sister's idea of waking up early on vacation is sometime after 8:30 and spending 2-3 hours getting ready. So my gentle remonstrations to get up by 8 and get into the shower were met with some not so promising reactions. (My sister resembles Grumpy in the morning while my Dad and BIL are more like Eeyore. The boys are like Sleepy and I end up feeling like Dopey.)

So I get myself together by 9am (hoping they'd learn by example) then announce I'm heading to AP for my morning hot chocolate and will meet everyone at the bus stop in 10 minutes. Great, they all say as someone holds the door for me and ushers me out of the room.

I rev my chair up to 4.5 mph, find out the next MGM bus is due in 15 minutes. Just enough time for me to race over to AP for my drink and return to find my family waiting for me. MISTAKE #1.

Instead I find no one but the very nice bus dispatcher and the first MGM bus arrive then dispatch. No family. OK, I figure I at least have time to pop back to the room and grab a pop tart for my breakfast before the next bus arrives, and give my family another gentle reminder.

Inside the room I find just my dad. My sister's group has apparently set off for their AP coffee and will meet us at the bus stop. I ask my dad to just put a pop tart in his scooter basket and head back to the bus stop to wait.

5 minutes later my dad comes over in his scooter. He's got my pop tart but when I do the requisite morning checklist, he forgot his cell phone. He tells me the 30 seconds required to fetch a pop tart from the box distracted him. Off he zooms for the room. 2 minutes later he returns madder than ever. He forgot his room key too. Again my fault because I asked for that blasted pop tart. I give him my room key and make a mental note to get it back ASAP before we're both locked out. Meantime, no sister with her morning coffee.

My dad returns with his cell phone and room key. I get mine back right away and tuck it inside the same place I always keep for such things. I ask him the checklist again. Room key, check; cell phone, check; annual pass? Yup the pop tart made him forget it, they should put warning labels on the box "Causes early senility". So after a grumbling tirade he goes back and returns with his AP. Still no sister. In all his trips back and forth I did wave hello and goodbye to my second MGM bus though.

Dad and I end up sitting at the bus stop and chatting with another scooter party (Tinkerbelle's dad) and Alf the dispatcher. We're having fun so I figure no big deal. We're on vacation, right? But then it occurs to me that my sister's morning coffee run began about 45 minutes ago. Contrary to rumor it does not take 45 minutes to walk from the Springs to Artist's Palette.

So I whip out my cell phone and call her. She's at AP and has been waiting for dad to join her. (He had already gotten his coffee before the three trips to the room. Apparently pop tarts make him forget room keys, cell phones and passes but not his morning coffee mug.) We tell her dad and I are here at the bus stop where we are supposed to meet and have been waiting. She says "Oh ok then, we'll be right over."

I hang up and resume my conversations. When the third MGM bus goes by I realize that phone call was near 15-20 minutes ago. Ok, just how long does it take to walk .1 mile? So I call my sis again. This time I see her walking up with her group. Where were you, we ask? Oh they decided to have some breakfast at AP. While dad and I were waiting at the bus stop for the last hour and I contented myself with amnesia-inducing pop tarts?! "Yeah, what's wrong with that? Is the bus here yet?" Which one, I ask in a hunger-inspired snarky tone.

My sis proceeds to tell me it was all "no big deal" and just "get over it". I seriously question whether I should hop the MK bus instead and ditch the family. But I wanted this family vacation right? Fortunately the next MGM bus arrives and we get on our way.

So racing my tired bones out of bed at 7:30 and being at the bus stop by 9am has landed me and my party at MGM's gates by a prompt 11:45am. I decide I need to regroup so send them off to see High School Musical then go off for a restroom break and get Fast Passes for Tower of Terror (the one thrill ride I wanted my sis to ride with me because my dad can't).

Our first official group spot was the Car Stunt Show. My dad and I have seen this multiple times since it opened and anticipated my sister's NASCAR loving boys would adore it. And along the way, I could stop off at the Backlot Bar and get a marguerita. Yeah, it's only 12:30 but I had a rough morning.

We make another plan. Dad and I race through an alternate route to collect our drinks and my sis takes the more leisurely stroll. We meet at the entrance to the stadium for the 1pm show.

Well the alternate route was blocked due to Toy Story Mania construction so we backtrack to the main route. See my sis and usher her to the gates and we just take maybe 5 minutes to buy our drinks. There is some 20 minutes before showtime. But 3 minutes later as we're putting the receipt away and taking our first sips, my suddenly impatient sister calls to say she's going in without us because "they're letting people inside". Cell phone pressed to my ear, drink in one hand and driving with the other I delay her just long enough (20 seconds) to zip up to her at the gates.

Forgive me but since I've been looking forward to sharing this experience with them, I'd like to actually sit near them during the show. And everyone knows they seat wheelchair parties separately from the main queue. (Don't worry, I'll pay for this arrogance later.)

We do sit on the lower level (to avoid the elevator crush after the show and get to the 2pm Indy show). My sister chastises dad and and I for "drinking and driving" while I finally get to scarf down my pop tart. That's when my 6 yr old nephew decides he hates cars, and fire, and any noise, and really wants to leave. The show begins, wheels screech and my nephew absolutely loses it. You never heard a kid scream that loud. My sis must take him out and of course we have no plan for meeting after.

Halfway through, I feel my phone vibrate. It's my sis. She's taken my nephew far away but will meet us at the bathroom by the exit when the show ends. OK. I look up and catch my 8 yr old nephew sitting in his dad's lap, both love it the show.

After the show, I race off to the bathroom to find my sis. There is about 30 minutes to Indy. But my sis isn't at the bathroom. So I call her. She didn't know the show was over so is "coming right back". The guys all exit the stadium and I tell them they have time for a restroom break while I wait. But when they exit, no sis. We do see the stunt car drivers in a rare appearance and I take my 8 yr nephew over to meet them.

Finally I phone my sis. Um, where are you? By the bathroom, she tells me in an irritated voice. Apparently she meant a different bathroom. Still we find each other. There is now 10 minutes left to get to Indy. My BIL is getting impatient. My 6 yr old nephew is still freaking. I remember all the fire and explosions in Indy and suggest an alternative for the boy. I'll take him to Playhouse Disney instead. It's safe and he can get his bearings.

I send the others for Indy while I take the 6 yr old by the hand and establish some ground rules so he doesn't run off on me. Just as we're walking off, here's my sis. She thinks she told BIL where she was going and that he "may" be catching up with my dad as they race for Indy. "Warning Will Robinson".

We get to Playhouse where my 6 yr old nephew realizes mid-stream that this is a "kiddy attraction". Still it comforts him back to non-hysteria. Afterwards, we exit and I ask my sis where the meeting place is with the guys. She didn't have one. OK, I'll call dad. No, he never saw them. Ok, we'll call BIL. He doesn't carry his cell phone. Uh oh.

We try backtracking our route. The 3pm parade is starting. It's hot and the 6 yr old wants ice cream. My sis is obsessing over her lost hubbie and how he is probably imploding by now. She won't do anything that involves not turning the park upside down in search of them. So I park them for the parade and head off in search. I am blocked by the parade so return with a frozen Mickey to pacify the duo. Then I seek the nearest CM and ask if there's anything that can be done.

Is the 8 yr old with a responsible adult? Yes. Are they staying on property? Yes. Does the adult have a room key? Yes. Do they know which bus to take home? Yes. Then relax and you'll catch up to them later. Best they can suggest is that I retrace where we talked about and they might have gone. I tell my morning departure story and they laugh. They adore family vacations.

After the parade, we spend the next hour playing phone tag with my dad. It comes down to my sis talking to him from one side of a building, me zipping around to find him at the other and getting on his phone to give her directions to him. I tell her we'll just sit and wait for her. The journey takes about 30-60 seconds. 5 minutes later, no sis. I find them about 10 feet from their original spot at the nearest water fountain where the 6 yr old was suddenly dying of thirst.

Ok, I do manage to get two thirds of the group together. We've looked everywhere for my BIL and I figure he is either mad as heck or happy as a lark to be free from the confusion. So we head over to Star Tours, a possible location. I convince my sis that she take in one attraction so she didn't spend all day obsessing. 6 yr old nephew will have none of Star Tours. And when the Jedi Academy starts he bolts again, or so I figure. (He actually returned just as dad and I entered the queue line and jostled for a place up front.)

20 minutes later we meet in the shop. It's now past 4pm, 2 hours later than my planned return to the resort that morning. We figure we'll look one more time then head back to SSR to find them there. Eventually they'll show up. I of course abandon all hopes of riding ToT.

But then, as we're walking by Dolly's we see them, BIL and the 8 yr old sitting on the side just relaxing. They had a great time at Indy, saw the parade, looked for us at ToT then walked back and decided to enjoy the shade. Apparently they weren't stressed at all.

Crisis over, I resurrect that last glimmer of hope for riding ToT. I tell my sis after her stressfull mommy day she deserves a little unnerving of the fun kind. The male natives are restless though, all insisting they are hungry. (I really want to take them back to SSR to eat lunch by the pool and get my DDE discount at AP.) But dad suggests they just get ice cream while the girls ride ToT. (Since he spent much of the afternoon, alone and dozing in his scooter, I credit him with regaining some sense of team work. And all he wants/needs is a coffee.)

So once we park them on Sunset Blvd, my sis and I head to ToT to use our FP. And the day that began as a complete disaster suddenly turns into a triumph. We're both terrified and yet loving every minute. We both keep our eyes shut tight, the ride opens the doors twice and we're dropped about half a dozen times. But our photo shows two grown women, clutching hands, eyes tightly shut and smiling like loons.

The night ends at the pool where we eat dinner, the kids watch a movie, the dads settle on chaises. And after consuming a bottle of wine, I ask my sis if she wants to sneak out for EMH at MK. It's 9:30pm, but we're both slightly tipsy and exhilarated at the thought. We end up taking in 5 rides, closing the park and returning to the room around 1am. The guys (grandpa, dad, and two kids) are sound asleep.

And so goes a typical family vacation in miniature.

Ah yes, those "best laid plans"! It is always a challenge to get neophytes with the program, isn't it?

Great Report!!

We really love SSR and Im so happy to see that Donald is Back and that the movies have returned to the main pool. I love that you can swim at any time of the night at SSR and not worry about disturbing others.

We were at BCV Oct 8-13 and went to DTD and I missed SSR so much, we caught the boat over just to visit AP and the Spa.

We are at AKV Concierge for Christmas week and then SSR for NYE week and if SSR was available, I would book both weeks at SSR because I know we will miss it so much.

Love your family day at MGM! I've found it is best to let family units tour together and casually meet up throughout the day. I think WDW is the best for family vacations, because like your CM said, everybody has a key and transportation, so no need looking for adults or supervised children, they will turn up eventually. When we did our Family reunion at SSR last June, I showed my family where to catch the bus and that was as far as I went! LOL!!

Thanks for the great trip report and laughs!

BroganMc,

You deserve much more than a pop-tart for that day! I think they owe you a good hearty breakfast at a restaurant of your choosing on your next trip, or maybe even a home-cooked breakfast in bed! Thanks for a wonderful report!

What a small world. I was standing to the right of Donald when you took that picture. Thank goodness you didn't get me in my bathing suit.
