Hey folks,

Just wanted to wave hello from Orlando. I've been in town since 10/7 but either haven't had internet access (the free wireless at our Marriott wasn't working last week) or have been too busy.

Checked into SSR by 10am Sunday after doing our Marriott/Disney resort shuffle. Our room wasn't ready, of course, but we planned smart this time. We came with our bathing suits ready.

Spent the day in the pool waiting for my sister's family (her, hubby, and two boys age 6 and 8) to fly in from Baltimore. Weather was hot and humid in the 90's last week. Sunday got noticeably cooler, windy and cloudy. Pool was cold. Still a much more pleasant way of waiting for your room.

Our room turned out to be on the ground floor of the Springs near the entrance to the model rooms. A dedicated 2-bedroom HA room that is larger than our room at Marriott Horizons. Only downside is that it faces the parking lot. But we have a very short walk to the main pool, bus stop and AP and our van is parked right outside.

We have had some slight issues. The door lock on our patio was broken. Called around 11pm the night we checked in when we discovered it. 5-10 minutes later maintenance arrived and locked us in. The morning crew switched the lock the next day.

We were out of toilet paper in the master bath but the maid was just outside. She had cleaned the room and forgot to switch the role. She loaded us up with extra rolls when we brought it to her attention.

Oh and it seems the Donald Duck water play area at HRS pool is being refurbished. It's closed off. Also the lifeguard told me kids broke the clock by the shallow end (it was standing on a pole) so it's missing.

But on the whole SSR is more wonderful then when I fell in love with it last May. Probably my biggest issues this whole trip have involved sharing it with a young family of Disney neophytes. The 6 yr old has a lot of phobias and freaks at all kinds of things. (His meltdown at the car stunt show in MGM the first day led to the group unexpectedly getting split up and lost for hours. And he worked himself into such a frenzy before the fireworks at the MNSSHP party last night.)

The 8 yr old is having a great time though. He celebrated his birthday yesterday with a card and balloons from Mickey, birthday cake at Liberty Tree Tavern last night and extra candy from the Goofy treat stations. He also got to meet the stunt drivers at MGM and Indiana Jones, as well as was on the video screens at the Laugh Factory.

Today I've got the kids while my sis and her hubby celebrate their anniversary. I'm taking them to Animal Kingdom then back here to the pool for the movie. (SSR is showing movies at the HSR pool M, W, F. We saw Hercules Monday night. It was fabulous.)

Oh and the weather is beautiful, better than '05. It hasn't rained in the afternoon at all during our last 10 days. The sun is bright and hot, but there's a cool breeze in the air. Middle of the afternoon is the worst.

Sounds like a great trip....

I was supposed to be there this week:sad1:
We moved the trip up to Aug....cause I'm thinking of getting pregnant...

I wish I was there though:goodvibes
Have a great trip

Glad to read you are having a good time. We'll be at SSR in 13 days! Before you leave, can you make sure they tidy up the place for us! :thumbsup2

Enjoy the rest of the trip! We'll be down in 10 days!!!!

Glad you're having a good time. We'll be down for our first stay at SSR next Friday, really looking forward to getting away for a few days.

Glad you are having a great time. We fell in love with SSR too in July. Now I'm home sick. At least we can visit when we are there next month at OKW.

Looking forward to hearing more.

Enjoy yourself.

YES!! I've been looking for a "Live from SSR" for a few days. Glad you're having a good time-we love it, too. Could you please tell me if a laptop will fit in the safe? We never even looked at it last time and will be taking one with us in December. TIA

Glad your trip is wonderful; hope it gets even better (if possible :goodvibes ).

Please tell Mickey (et al) that we'll be seeing him in two weeks and that we missed him, too!

Well I've just about survived our big "take the kids and let the parents celebrate their anniversary" day, I think.

Everyone got off to a late start today because we wore ourselves out the first two days. So no one woke before 10am and no one left for a park bus before 2. I needed my morning trek to Artist Palette for hot chocolate just to wake myself up.

For those who've never done that, it simply involves putting on a pair of shoes, any old t-shirt and shorts, grabbing your cup and taking the nearest pathway to the Carriage House. You head back via some scenic route just to give yourself a few extra minutes of peace and tranquility. For me that involved long looks at the Springs lake and watching the morning sparrows hunt for lovebugs. This place always reminds me of a spa retreat on those early mornings.

I did do the nice thing and refilled my BIL's mug with coffee and stopped off to say hi to Alf, the bus dispatcher at the Springs bus stop. I met him out there on Monday while waiting for my sis to meander over. Seems in the morning crush Disney has someone manning the main stop at resorts to see if the busses are going according to schedule.

It has been more crowded this week and we've waited a bit longer for things but I think it has far more to do with the group traveling with us. 6 & 8 year old children think a minute is an eternity and love to make you feel that way as well.

There was no morning pool then break as planned, so instead we just took different busses. As I said before the youngest is in his painfully skittish stage at the moment, so their grandfather and I chose to take the boys to Animal Kingdom. As long as we avoided shows or scary Bug's Life, we figured we were safe from meltdowns.

Truthfully the boys were good. I put the 8 yr old in charge of the map and he navigated us toward Africa. We went up to the Conservation Station, back to see the parade (twice as it wraps around), got ice cream (soft serve is a gooey mess in hot sun), rode the safari (where the boys got binoculars and were made honorary game spotters), and went over to Asia to see the Forbidden Forest. I have film of both boys swearing they will never EVER go on Expedition Everest. I'm saving it for when they turn teenagers and tease me for not going on it the hundreth time with them.

By the time we made it home it was past 8pm and the Wednesday night movie had already started. Tonight was the Mighty Ducks. We ordered carry out from Artist' Palette, ate at tables near the shallow end and watched the movie and boys. The 6 yr old just played in the water for 2 hours while his brother insisted he sit up right before the screen.

It was a good size crowd too. The weather is very pleasant in the evening. Just right to sit in tank top and shorts. The pool was warm. I can see movie night becoming a tradition around here.

So now everyone's fast asleep besides me and I'm fading fast. I must say I appreciate what all you folks with young kids go through in a Disney vacation. We didn't do half the stuff my dad and I normally do and yet we're both exhausted. But the boys are sleeping like angels.

Hats off to you...there will be a place in heaven for you for giving them a kidless day.

Thank you telling us all the good stuff at SSR. We can't wait to return next August with our extended family. My dad and dh already have the AP morning walk planned...early risers.

Yes.....those "kidless days" are heaven:cloud9:

Glad your having a great time.

How nice of you to take one for the team.

Actually, sounds like it was a great day. I'll have to check out the movie night when we go. Sounds like a good time.

What's the forbidden forrest?

You are correct! Could you please call your Dad and thank him?

Nice update, we are anxious to go see our new home this coming February, we'll be at OKW but we plan on taking the tour of SSR while we are there. Glad to hear that you are having a great time!!! Keep sending the reports!!!

Thanks for the report. You are making me "homesick". We will be down next Friday for 10 days but this trip is split between AKV and BCV. I'm excited about trying Animal Kingdom but I always miss my first real home SSR. We will be over to visit because we can't really stay away!

I love SSR in the morning too. Last May I swore that I could smell the subtle scents of the spa floating in the air. I can't wait until the next trip to SSR, which is now less than 2 months away.
