Live from POP Century!

I had to check my work email, so I thought I'd stop by here and post. We've been here since yesterday afternoon, and it's great. We spent the afternoon at the Magic Kingdom, and it was almost as though we were there alone! We walked onto everything except the Jungle Cruise. We had to wait about three minutes for that one. The weather has been awesome, although it's supposed to change by the weekend.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to reply. I will have to check my email each night, so I will try to reply. I'll be here until Sunday morning, when I leave for the next part of my trip--my DCL cruise, then return for three nights at CBR.

Hi, everyone!

It's Thursday morning and we're still having a great time! To try to answer all the questions:

abe_froman: What has stood out? The staff...everyone is so friendly and so helpful. We've had towel "sculptures"--they aren't all animals--each morning, our room has been beautifully tended to, even though we don't usually leave it until 11 AM!! The entire resort is very well-maintained. The landscaping is very green, the Christmas decorations are great, and we're having a blast for two "50-somethings"!

doc_tbs: We're in the third floor of the 70's building (non-smoking area) just above the first Twister game. It's a good location--it seems like there are no kids up here, just couples, including honeymooners on either side. The Mickey and Minnie bride and groom hats have been displayed in various ways in their windows each day. It's so cute! The temperature this week has been hot. It's been in the mid to upper 80's. However, according to the weather channel, that's going to change on Saturday, and stay that way for a while. They're saying mid-60's for the weekend and early next week.

Pats Dragon...we travel very light. I couldn't imagine asking for help with our two suitcases! However, had we wanted help, it was certainly available, and we were greeted as soon as we left our limo with an offer of luggage help (or any other kind of assistance we might need).

Tyler--I assume you're referring to our "getaway". No one back home knows that we're staying an extra three days. I only just told DH about a week ago. We both had the vacation time, and I thought it would be fun to have a "honeymoon" so close to our anniverary (Dec. 30 it will be 32 years!).

By the way, the crowds were still very low yesterday, at least at Epcot. I imagine that things will start to pick up now that it's closer to the weekend. Last night we had dinner at Boma, which was great as always. Tonight we're going to the Candlelight Processional to see Marlee Matlin. She's been a favorite for many years, and I think she's an amazingly talented woman who hasn't let a disability slow her down. We'll follow that with dinner at Restaurant Marrakesh, which is another favorite.

I'll try to post again tonight or tomorrow!

Sounds great. We are staying there for the first time in a couple of days. I had heard that if you stay in the 50's building, top floor, facing the lake, you can see the fireworks from EPCOT. Do you know if this is true?

Since you are there, and in your opinion, and if you could choose, where would you stay and why? Would love to know.

I just got back and I was in the 50s bldg on the 2nd floor. If you walked out my door, to the left was the lake and straight ahead was the parking lot and we could see Spaceship Earth from our room and see some of the fireworks. I went up to the 4th floor just to see what the difference was (not during the fireworks though) and I could see half of the sphere. It was pretty cool.

Hi Beth from NJ and everyone else. We are at AKL right now and I am using AOL dialup to post. We are part of MOUSEFEST so we have been doing groups and meets and eating a lot since our Mousefest Package included 2 dinner coupons, 4 quick & casual coupons and 2 breakfast coupons for us to use. We are going to Narcossees tonight. Last night we did MVMCP and the R.A.D.P./Mousefest meet had over 100 people viewing the fireworks. The Saturday meet at the Swan will attract about 1000 people.
Now I am online in the middle of the day because it has been raining off and on and DH needed a NAP.

Hi just wanted to post that we stayed in the 50's building C 1st floor last room before the lake. We could see the fireworks from the first floor all though it wasn't the best view. I would imagine that you could see the fireworks from the upper floors quite nicely.

We've been able to see some of the "Illuminations" fireworks from the walkway right in front of our third floor room by looking towards the lake (which is to the left from here). Of course, the fireworks are much better when you're standing around the World Showcase Lagoon!

The food at the food court is very good. DH and I aren't fussy eaters and have always found something that we would enjoy. We particularly enjoy breakfasts here for some reason!

This is the second time we've stayed at POP. We were here for the grand opening last year, and stayed in the room directly underneath the one we're in now (just a coincidence). As far as I can tell, the 70's buildings are a good location, not too far from the food court, bus stops and pool, but not close enough to hear the noise. There don't seem to be any kids in any rooms near us, and it's really very quiet and pleasant up here!

Shoes99--I'm on AOL dial-up too. We were at the Animal Kingdom yesterday during the rain storms, but didn't get wet at all. When the first storm came, we were still at POP, when the second one came we were waiting for Kilimanjaro Safari so we were under the awning there, and had a great ride because the animals loved the rain! We decided to stop at Tusker House for lunch just as the last big storm came through. By the time we were done, the rain had stopped.

This will be my last post from POP. We leave in the morning for our cruise on Wonder, and when we return, I will be live from CBR. I'll be glad to answer any other POP questions when we get back.

It's been a great vacation so far, and I can't wait to get on with the rest of it!
