Well Me and my family & friends made it pass Sandy.

I live in Bayville & TomRivers just google it and u can see I am few minutes from the shore line with the bay between us and the barrier islands. We got hit hard.
I was looking for pictures to help show what happened here. So much happening here. No power, No gas, anything. Anything you see on the news is a little BS as we haven't seen 1 power truck or tree truck in my town. Maybe we can hope for this weekend. As last night got cold here and was not comfortable sleeping.

plus in the last picture I posted at the end of the street my cousins house was there. And it is clearly gone but the white picket fence still stands.

I will also like to say this are not my photos and I am not shawn wainwright. I haven't taken any photos. I will try only photo I took was a star trail photo on halloween due to the clear sky and bright moon. I will up loard them as soon as I get power.

Wow that is so surreal to see. Glad you guys are ok otherwise though.

Thoughts and prayers are with you. I don't know what to say...we saw this a few years back here in Texas after Hurricane Ike. We're 75 miles northwest of Houston and while there was only minor damage in our town the news coverage from the coast showed us Galveston looking as your area does now. Our family flew to DW a few hours before the Houston airport closed due to Ike's winds. We returned a week later to a Houston still partially in the dark. To say the feeling was eerie is an understatement. All we can do is for you is pray...and we ARE doing that. :tink:

So glad you and your family are safe. Thank you for posting those incredible photos. Words just cannot express it. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was affected by Sandy.

Glad to hear you made it through alright - my thoughts are for all those who didn't fare as well. My family is from NJ, and I grew up there - Seaside Heights was part of my summer ritual - I still have lots of relatives up there, some of whom are without power but OK, others who lost homes. It's always terrible to see.

I can sympathize with what you're going through when you hear TV coverage talking about restoration of power and aid when you are sitting there not seeing any of it. Down here in Florida, we've been through it all too often. In 2004, my house lost power after hurricane Frances for 8 days, with trees down blocking the roads out of my neighborhood so I couldn't even get to work - no working phone lines nor cell, so I couldn't even explain why I wasn't there - my job is 25 miles south of me, and that town didn't even get hit, so my whole office was going to work and wondering why I wasn't coming in - they were unaware we even had damage. The coverage was all based in the town 80 miles north where the eye hit, and we never had any help, aid, cleanup, nor attention given to the fact that we were without power for so long. Our problem was the opposite of yours, as it was near 100 degrees and humid, so we were sweltering and the home covered in mold and algae growing on the walls. A month later, it happened all over again when Hurricane Jeanne came to the same spot, and knocked out our power another 4 days. Then in 2005, Hurricane Wilma came and hit us worse than ever - 9 more days without power and much more damage, but the national news was too busy showing Katrina and Rita damage and recovery, so we went unnoticed again, even with roofs torn off homes and infrastructure down everywhere.

Hang on - and try not to get too frustrated - these things take time, and sometimes you are unfortunately in the smaller places and don't get the media attention - you can feel forgotten. But they'll eventually get there, and no matter the hardships, it'll eventually be over and life will get back to normal again.

I'm happy to hear everyone is okay. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. In my previous non-retired life, I was a first responder. Trust me when I say they are trying to get to you. Those are some of the most dedicated people in the world. They leave their homes and families for days to help others even though they may be in the same situation. I hope things turn around quickly for you. Hang in there and good luck.

I sure hope everything ends well. Our prayers are with you all. Our area was torn apart by Katrina, so I know what you're going through. We had to rebuild our business and built a new home. I know it's a long recovery. Hang in there and good luck.

Harry

I also live in NJ but on the NJ/ NY boarder in Mahwah. There is so much damage in the state its hard to describe. No matter how many power or tree crews there are there is simply not enough. Its impossible to get to everyone who needs help at this point.

In Bergen County while there is not the devastation there is in the shore communities there are trees and power lines down everywhere. 80% of my town was without power. I was one of the lucky ones with next to no damage and I was able to keep power (somehow). Most of Bergen county is still without power and now just about out of gas. People are waiting up to 4 hours for fuel. This is mostly due to no power because 75% of the gas stations are still without power.

I am live time Jersey resident. I spent my summers in Brigantine and Sea Isle City. I been in most of the shore towns from Cape May to Sandy Hook. I can not believe the devastation that occurred from Sandy. I never thought I would see anything this close to home in my live! I know in time it will be rebuilt but it won't be the same again!

Not to bring anyone down but....My town is suffering. Text REDCROSS to 90999 if you can donate $10 or call 1-800-HELP-NOW
Hurricane sandy hit hard! I only hope it can be restored to the awesome place it was.

Photos are great and all and dont take this the wrong way but put the camera down and help if you can. godspeed to you and your families and neighbors

I actually think there is great value in photographing the extent of the damage. A good photo can motivate many people the world over to donate in a way that mere words could never accomplish.

actually theres plenty of coverage by media to cover it 10 fold. This person lives there, in the middle of the carnage and instead of flashing around with a camera it seems more humane to do something and help out.

Thats right the OP lives there... and wants to document how they see things through their "own" eyes. No problem with that at all. If something happened to my neighborhood and once everyone was safe, I would be out shooting photos as well to document what I see to capture the scene.

well when i first posted this only access I had at my job in Trenton. Hour and change away from my house. I am still without power at my house/town. I am using a friend computer at his house. He is lucky to have power. I didn't take pictures as I posted first. I figured that people out there that have seen my post in past maybe where wondering about me. I posted this and made me feel a little normal.

It is getting better power is coming on slowly in the neighboring towns. The local shelters have been turning away people and items, only do too much stuff.

Today me and justine found out that the local animal shelter is taking stuff.
We got bunch of pet supplies that we will be dropping off tomorrow. Remember I am still going home to dark and cold but at least I still have a home to go back to.

Remember pictures are needed to help people understand. This week became a history in America and in NJ.

I hope all donated 10 bucks last night to Red Cross. NBC,Bruce,& everyone I heard did a nice little show.

Thanks to all that support this post and to those who think I am not doing anything come live in this and continue to do so... when help isn't there you look to your friends, family, and neighbors.

-Dan
