Just arrived. Only $100 in gas.

This vacation was long overdue... well... aren't they all?

We are rocking a 2 bedroom. Sure do miss the studio. This place is so huge we lost one of our party in the room and we had to organize a search party. Also, what is the deal with the real dishes? No paper plates?!? And what in the world am I supposed to do with all this ice? Kidding, of course, sorry Simba's Mom.

We are in building 15 with a nice enough view. This is our second stay here and we made exactly ZERO plans. Normally we have suggested itineraries, this time, nada. In some ways it is sort of freeing because with no plans we have zero expectations other than just resting and relaxing.

San Miguel's was great last time we stayed here and it seems like the perfect choice for dinner after a long drive...

If you let them wander out to the huge porch you will definitely never find them. Glad you are having a good time, I love the place. :thumbsup2

Hey, Beesknees-we're here too. And if you really miss the studio, we'll gladly change-don't want anyone to get lost with all that room, so we'll make the sacrifice. We're in a studio in the main lodge. All our previous trips have been in a 1 BR, but for some unfathonable reason, I decided a studio was OK for this trip-why, oh why did I think that?
We'll wave as we go by below you on the boardwalk on the way to the pool. Are you doing the Low Country Boil tomorrow? If so, we'll see you there. Isn't the weather beautiful?
Have a nice dinner at San Miguel-we ate at Salty Dog tonight.

Sounds wonderful! Great to hear the weather is great!

You can always visit Beesknees and do your laundry there!:rotfl:

I am a "her" now?

The boil depends on the weather which seems to be holding now. Looked really dark earlier today.

Been a good day. Stacks breakfast, read for awhile in the room, ate a sammich in the room for lunch, gonna watch a movie then decide what we will do later.

I love a no plans kinda vacation! HHI is the best place to do that too! We just love it there, it's very relaxing. I hope you have a great time and enjoy! Can't wait to hear more about it!

How crowded is the resort and the surrounding area? We are thinking of Hilton Head as an alternative to Vero Beach for next Spring Break, which will be attached to Easter next year. Vero was absolutley fabulous earlier this month -- I heard we were in between two sold out weeks. Hilton Head is about as far as we will drive (14 hours or so), and we would save on holiday airfare and car rental. Thanks!

The resort was at capacity last week. We made the mistake of trying to go out to eat Good Friday for dinner-it was crazy! But some of the traffic was due to the Heritage Golf Classic. The day after Easter, I think about 80% of the people around here left. It was funny-we went to Sea Pines Monday afternoon, the day after Easter and encountered a long line of trraffic going the other way.

Hi BeesKnees,
Thanks for the live report. Sounds like the trip is off to a great start. Sending pixie dust your way that no one else is lost and that you can use all of that ice. :goodvibes Enjoy the rest of your trip. :thumbsup2

Hope you waved as they were all leaving (and you were getting to stay!). Any luck with the birds in the Forest Preserve?

No luck with birds. Just two very large alligators swimming around the lake.

So far the only plans are to get a tire looked at. One of the locals suggested Walmart because there are places that will rip you off. Ugh. I haven't been in a Walmart in at least 10 years.

I wouldn't want to do a no plan vacation all the time but there have been times in the past where we outsmarted ourselves. There is no chance of that this time.

We were having so much fun at HHI we sat back and thought... what could make this trip the best ever? Why not have our real home hit by a tornado and drive all night long through horrible weather to get back to it at 6am?

It sounds good on paper but I would recommend against it. Especially considering we had that 2 br booked through Saturday and all of those points are forfeited.

Now the fun of cleaning up the mess and hiring contractors to come and repair what looks to be about 35k worth of damage. YaY! Best 20th anniversary vacation evah! :sad1:

Oh, how horrible! Please accept my hopes and prayers that all works out well. I'm so sorry for you.

I'm so sorry this happened to your family. I'm so thankful you guys were blessed to be kept safe from physical harm.

Ouch! I am so sorry about your home. Your family is in our prayers.

Stay safe. Good luck with the cleanup.
