Live from Disneyland

Practically done... here's a few more. First, some more PotC on-ride shots...

Pick your favorite, rectilinear or fisheye. :)

That's pretty much it, just some DL Hotel room pics after this... hope you all enjoyed!

In this one case I have to say I like the rectilinear one better than the fisheye. It really stands out, love the lighting, fantastic (like all of your pictures!!).

Groucho you're POTC shots are awesome! I love it! :jumping1:
I like the rectilinear one better than fisheye. BTW, what is rectilinear? :teeth: Is it a type of lens?

Thanks!

Rectilinear just means "normal", ie, not fish-eye. One thing I didn't do was crop (or compose originally) the fisheye shot just right, so it's slightly offcenter. I was also much closer to the letters despite the backgrounds looking much further away! (And I could have gotten closer still.) For the rectilinear shot, I had to go more than half-way across the esplanade to get it all in with my 28-75mm lens. (I didn't have my kit 18-55mm with me.) If you're using a PnS that starts at closer to 36mm, you probably have to almost be in Disneyland to get all the "California" letters. :)

A difficulty is that this was maybe 45+ minutes after DL closed (and CA Adventure closed two hours before that!) and there are still people hanging around. I suspect that if you want a photo completely devoid of people, you need to take the shot in the middle of the night... which I had considered doing but never quite got around to.

I like the shots from the the waiting area of the 50th anniversary movie. Those turned out nice.. I also like the pile of skulls.

This is a serious crop, but I love the look of the castle - this is during one of the "when you wish upon a star" bright fireworks, so it's lit from above.

WOW!

Spectacular photo Groucho!! Awesome!

Thanks handicap18! :) Unfortunately I just noticed that that one was taken in the brief period of having a dirty sensor... argh! Oh well, it took me thing long to notice it... I guess I won't worry about it. :rolleyes1

orchjoe, the 50th anniversary props are neat and a good place to practice your manual focus technique... at that distance, even the relatively wide F2.8 is making extremely thin depth of field, so the focus has to be exactly on what you want it to be, and you have to make sure that you yourself don't move at all... but still pretty fun, I love shooting miniatures, little props and statues, etc.

Fine work Groucho- very inspiring for my upcoming trip.

Thanks guys! The weekend's been busy (we drove 2.5 hours yesterday to "African Lion Safari" in Canada, good practice for the safari ride at Animal Kingdom, although these guys had a lot more animals on the safari) so I haven't gotten around to doing the last few photos. DVC Jen, I do have a bunch of resort photos just for you. :teeth:

DisneySuiteFreak, thanks for asking but this thread is as close to a trip report as I made. Since DL is so much smaller, it's harder to write a whole trip report for it IMHO, and less interesting as many people's trips will be fairly similar since it's much easier to see everything.

I do have a lot more photos in my gallery, and one of these days maybe I'll actually get around to writing proper descriptions for the photos, that might have some stuff I didn't post here, but I'm incredibly behind in doing that. :(

OK, these are the last group of photos. DVC Jen, since you asked, I have a special section of DL Hotel photos here.

Promos for Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage were everywhere... on billboards on the way to DL as well as on flags in Downtown Disney like this one.

Here's how the Disneyland Hotel looks from Downtown Disney. We were in the building on the left, there's also one more farther to the left that faces the sideways one on the right.

The bed has concept DL artwork on the headboard and cute bedding with various attractions in the design. (More shots in the gallery.) The TV cabinet (also in the gallery) has the original artwork for the layout of DL on the front.

OK, I think that's enough for now. I hope you all enjoyed!
