I know last summer LM was open early for Hotel guests -- was wondering if this is still the practice or is it just Soarin and WOC FP machines open at that time now? Thanks.
I believe that was just part of the special summer promotion.
You should rest assured however that it's not really required. Just one month after LM opened, the lines had already pretty much maxed out at 10-15 minutes. During August at noon my sister and I walked on about 4 times in a row.

We walked onto Little Mermaid with absolutely no wait the entire Labor Day weekend. I'm a big fan of the movie, but the ride is okay. I would have loved a longer ride. Also a dark ride should be dark. I thought the lighting throughout the ride was wrong.
Wow, I'm shocked at the short lines! We will be there at Christmas, and I was going to make a mad dash for a fastpass for that ride! Should we go for a fp for star tours instead?

Little Mermaid doesn't have FastPasses. And if it did, it wouldn't prevent you from getting Star Tours FPs, as they're in different parks. Go for the ST FPs. The PPs are correct - we were there Nov 14-18, and LM was almost a walk-on. LM is one of our DGD's favorite movies, but she thought the ride was so-so, and we only went on once all week.
I think the fastpasses ended in early September. You could use it to go in the backdoor for Little Mermaid or use it as an instant fastpass for any other fastpass ride (each person got 2). I was there in August and we used both fastpasses for Star Tours. Little Mermaid had no line. It loads really fast. I was disappointed it was so short.
Just returned, and GCH (and other property hotel guests I think) can get in through GCH entrance at 9:15 a.m. to get WOC FP, ride Ariel and Soarin. However, on Tuesday after getting our WOC FP, we went to Soarin and they weren't open yet, the guy said he thought they might open at 9:30 a.m. So went to Ariel's and it was walk on. There were also a few times throughout our stay (M-Th) when it was walk on and it wasn't early entry. DCA was not busy at all compared to DL.
I never waited more than about 3 minutes to ride TLM and I rode probably 5 times or more. I wouldn't worry at all. It's very high-capacity and it's in DCA so it doesn't have as many people coming to it as it would if it were in DL. (Actually, through much of our trip, even Haunted Mansion was walk-on...again, high-capacity.)
I think on-site guests will get FPs in January (for a few months). Probably best to use those on Star Tours or Space Mountain (or if it's a warm day, Splash Mountain).
