Little Mermaid, how scary?

Some of the guidebooks I read said that Little Mermaid is scary for young kids. I have a 6yr and 2yr old. My 6yr old is very much on the timid side...but she is very familiar with the Little Mermaid story and has seen the movie many times. She and I have talked about how big the Sea Witch is, but I hate to have her scared on her first day in WDW.

I'm not worried about my 2yr old, he does not get as frightened.

Any thoughts?

If she is familar with the movie, the Voyage of the Little Mermaid will not scare her. It basically is a collection of the songs from the movie. She should enjoy it.

Both of my girls enjoyed it every time they have seen it. I would think as long as your DD knows the story, she should be fine. It does get dark in there, that's the only thing I can think of that may make it scary.

When we went in May my almost 4 y.o. dd was petrified when Ursula (and the eels) came out...she actually buried her face in my lap and cried. She still talks about it today. After that she was scared of dark rides/shows. However your dd is a little older then mine and understands the difference between what is real and what isn't better than my dd. I say go for it. My dd loved the rest of the show!

My now 6 year old doesn't like this show still.

She doesn't like the noise factor, the mist, and she used to be afraid of Ursula. Its still a struggle to get her to see this show and she loves Ariel.

My 4 and 3 yo's LOVE this show and have for a few years. They were never scared in there..now Its tough to be a bug, different story..lol.

Well, I would suggest seeing it. My DD is a bit um, how do you say, theatrical? We talk about everything, when we know what is going to happen. When she knows what to expect, she's ok. With POTC last time she got so scared that she didn't want to ride IASW! She saw the boats and thought it would be the same. lol. We made her get on it anyway. She was crying and as soon as we turned the corner, she said, "I DO like this!" Funny little girl. Anyway, we've talked about POTC a million times now. We've talked about the "puppets" and how they are just dolls and that's all they do all day. (And then we do the motions. ) She is psyched to ride it in Sept.
It may help if you watch Little Mermaid and do the dance with Ursula and things of that sort to take the scary out of her. Remind her that Ariel always wins out! (And reassure her that it's just like watching a play, or tv, or movie, they will not come near her, they'll stay on stage.

My DS was 3.5 when we saw it, well I should say saw part of it. He was terrified or Ursula and we had to leave shortly after she came out. But he tends to scare easily.

Although older, my children and I found this show delightful! Yes, Ursula is a formidable foe, but if you sit more to the sides you will have greater distance between you and her. I agree with Ariel 8676 that It's Tough To Be A Bug is way-more scary ~ my 6 year old was really freightened.

Try sitting off to the side near the doors. At least it will afford quick exit if needed...

Thanks for the replies! Sconnell - my daughter exactly, very theatrical! I will use these ideas and talk to her and ds some more.

We are going on arrival day, so I hope there are still FP left!

We are only going for 3 days, so are not going to AK, but other people have also warned me about Bugs Life.

We are not planning on taking her on Snow White's Scary adventure and not sure about POTC yet. We will also talk about that one, that one might depend more on the lines...

But what is IASW? Sorry, still new here, usually I can figure it out...

My DD4 who loved Fantasmic did not like this show at all; she saw both for the first time when we went in July. The mist and water really frightened her, and she has told me repeatedly she did not like Ursula. There are some frightening moments there, and depending on your child, she could end up scared.
