Little Mermaid fire??

A Disney blogger is reporting that LM had a fire, has been evacuated, and that most of NF has been closed. No further updates.

Not that minor. With NF so close to the firework staging area, this could be a continuing problem. Disney is probably going to have come up with a solution here.

I thought NF had been open 6 months or so already? If this was going to be a serious continuing problem, wouldn't it have happened already? Not trying to defend Disney, or downplay what could be serious issue, just not sure that this is outside the normal risks of doing large volumes of fireworks daily.

NF area has been open for over a year now and is really only about a hundred feet or so "closer" to the main fireworks staging areas than Small World and Pinochio Village Haus.

Things happen from time to time depending on wind, weather and fireworks "malfunctions". Bigger "problem" area (behind Mermaid and BOG) is the wooded area between the back of the park and the fireworks staging during the really dry times of the year. That 700' or so area sometimes needs some water action after fireworks.

It is extremely windy here. It could be that some embers blew onto the roof. There is a reason that sprinklers run on the rooftops of many of the buildings close to the castle area during the fireworks. They may have to add more.

What happened last night was minor. The issue of a possible ongoing or long term problem is separate.

Being that it's the Little Mermaid, and Under the Sea, they could do a water effect that would keep the buildings safe, and also be part of the attraction.

BTW, I love how it 'rains' in Fantasyland (sprinklers on the rooftops)

On the older satellite image below, I've circled the rear MK fireworks staging area.
New Fantasyland now reaches as far as the east-west service road
seen in the center of the image.

(There are also many "foreground" fireworks that are shot from the tops of the buildings in Fantasyland.)
