I work for a major airline and this happens more often than you can imagine. If you have SS card and birth certificate those do count. Also voter registration card, and State, county or city issued item for a school, library or insurance. Usually people say they don't have any, but if they show me everything in their wallet, I can find the qualifying documents. Take the copy of his license, ss card and birth certificate. Get to the airport 2 hrs before, because sometimes a supervisor has to approve the ID, but you souldn't have any problem. Have a great trip!! :earsgirl:

So IF we don't have to photo ID in hand, do we just go to the airline counter with this info?

What about TSA? I am just not sure what to do with them even if their website says non-photo ID works.

He may be able to get a "non-drivers" photo id.

Here in DE we got non drivers id for my kids in an hour, we needed birth certificate and social security card. In addition my or dh's drivers license. It was done on the spot and we walked out with them.

Perhaps your state has something similar he can get with his temporary replacemend license and a SScd and birth certificate?

Worth a try and you could probably get the information online.

That won't work either. In Minnesota the non-drivers cards and the drivers ones are done the same way (all printed off-site and mailed to you).

Last year, my DH forgot to get his license renewed early and he would need it for the rental car. He was planning to take his old one with the renewal slip since they told him 3-6 weeks (which would be while we were gone), but the license was in his hands before we left. I think they give you that long date so that in case you are one of the people who takes that long, you aren't surprised. I also think they use that 3-6 weeks timetable all over the state, because of mailing times. But, something mailed in the Twin Cities metro area is likely to come the day after (or 2 days after) it's mailed.

I don't know if this link will work:
http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/DefaultForm.aspx

but, there are lots of places that do passports -it looks like most of the Minnesota License Bureas do. Close to Circle Pines (besides Roseville) include:
Blaine License Center, Anoka County License Bureau
Facility Address: 11000 Highway 65 NE Blaine, MN 55434 Public Phone: (763) 767-3888

Coon Rapids License Center (Anoka County)
Facility Address: 3026-1/2 - 111th Ave. NW Coon Rapids, MN 55433 Public Phone: (763) 712-4102

Ham Lake Licensing Center (Anoka Co.)
Facility Address: 17565 Central Ave., NE, Suite 330 Ham Lake, MN 55304 Public Phone: (763) 413-9717

Columbia Heights License Center (Anoka Co.)
Facility Address: 3982 Central Ave. NE Columbia Heights, MN 55421 Public Phone: (763) 789-7202

White Bear Lake License Bureau Facility
Facility Address: 4701 Highway 61 White Bear Lake, MN 55110 Public Phone: (651) 429-8532

I'd print out the TSA page that says what is acceptable ID.

I feel for you! My mom lost her passport (only photo id. it was under the lining of her bag) while we were in Florida and it was tough going home. No one was pleasant about it, I was hugely pregnant, and was left alone in the gangway thingee with a 2 year old, stroller, carseat and all the carryons while they questioned my mom. This was after everyone saying don't worry about it.

But you have the benefit of being able to scrape together whatever docs you can fine and maybe even getting a passport.

Hopefully the wallet is just lost somewhere. Did you put a fraud alert on dh's credit reports? It's a little bit of a pain, but worth it.

We were so lucky when DH's car was stolen. He had filled out DMV paperwork with his SS# and had it in the car in his briefcase when it was taken. The people who stole it were just dumb kids because all they did was open a phone sex account. There was also a checkbook and they just threw it out the window. I guess they were happy with the computer.

Best of luck!

Here is something I read about protecting yourself from ID theft.

If you have a medical ID card from your health insurance co. using your SSN as the medical ID number or you have a medicare card DO NOT CARRY IT.

What you do is make a copy of it a carry the copy. Take a black marker and block out the LAST FOUR DIGITS of your SSN.

This took me by surprise, considering DVC and other businesses (telephone, etc) ask you for the last four before accessing your account.
