Little help perlleeasseee with some planning

ok is there a cheapest day to fly? i was going to go to a disney hotel but toying with a villa now...but theres pros and cons and i cant make my mind up!!!


if anyone can gimme help or hints we re fmaily of four, two kids 10 and 6 goin for 14 days. not my first time but first time for kids and hubby.

we plan on driving (well i do, hubby doesnt)

We went for a Disney hotel, I just don't feel like a villa would be for me. I would still be tidying round and doing the dishes. We got the free QSDP too so it was worth it for us. As its only day husband doing the driving we liked the free transport to the parks too that way it wasn't too much and no parking fees

Not sure on the cheapest day to fly, think it depends more on where you are flying from and the time of year.

I've been having a similar dilemma about accommodation though. We had planned to stay at Disney, but the price increase for next year put me off so we started looking offsite. I found some amazing looking properties, but my heart belongs onsite. What pros and cons have you got, maybe we can work through them together.

well its juts that there will be entertainment on an evening in the parks...in the pools etc..kids wont be just nthere own like they will bein a villa (withus as well of course) then theres the aspect pointed out above, id be forever cleanign the villa i think and panicking about things.

ipriced holidays up at disney hotels a month or so ago....and now i look again, waitin to book and they seem to have gone up alot!!!

we plan to fly if possible onthe dreamliner from manchester....

If you have certain dates pegged but can be flexible within those dates, there absolutely are cheapest days to fly. While you need to check all combinations one by one and spend a bit of time (or a lot) checking an monitoring them you are likely to be able to, at the very least, rule out certain days that cost more that others. Although it does not follow a set rule, I have found on my searches that typically Fridays to Sundays are a little more expensive than weekdays. Often Monday and Tuesday departures and returns came up cheaper than Wednesdays and Thursdays. As I say, there is no hard and fast rule and it depends on so many factors like which airport, which time of the year, any holidays (local or US) which may coincide, but there are definitely cheaper and more expensive days of the week to fly

To be honest for me there really isn't that much of a choice...three adults sharing a room at POFQ on free QSDP cost us @£1300 for 14 nights. ( not going to include flights and tickets in this discussion, would have had to pay for them anyway!). If we had stayed off-site a hotel/villa plus car, fuel, parking and food for all of us ...and we do enjoy our food... would surely have cost more than £1300.

it kinda looks like a premier inn room with thekids sleepinon pull out beds for two weeks..not sure if i could manage that? or are the rooms a bit bigger than that?

for the price of a suite i can get a much larger room offsite. i do like the look of the disney resots...

I think this is where your personal requirements come into play. I've done a value for 15 nights and the room was fine. DD was 6 or 7 at the time and it was only the two of us, which is not the same as having a whole family in a room that size. It was the only time we stayed at a moderate resort and we really enjoyed our stay. With that said, even at the time I did realize that it might be less than ideal with another adult and child in the room as they are fairly compact, so once you add your suitcases into a corner and souvenirs start piling up, floor space starts to diminish pretty quickly. We spend very little time in our room and I can't say we ever go sit in the room to relax - we are in there to shower, change and sleep and that's about it. I do think if there were 4 of us and we wanted some rest time or leisure time I'd appreciate a bit more space (and maybe a second bathroom or even shower room)

There are no hard and fast rules on the cheapest days to fly, but as someone else said Fri - Sun are usually more (many airlines have a weekend supplement too) Monday is often higher too because business flyers tend to travel that day hence more seats are sold and the remaining seats get their price hiked.

In general airlines work on the premise that the more seats they have left to sell, the lower the price until the very last minute when they hike the price up. In general, Tue - Thur are the cheapest days to fly but that isn't aI lways the case.

Everyone will have their own views on villa vs. hotel so all I can do is give you mine which is of no more or less value than anyone elses!

Having a villa is like a home from home situation to me. You're still cooking, cleaning and doing all the things you'd do at home, you're just doing it in the sunshine and after a tiring day in the parks! A villa comes with additional costs too. It may be cheaper to rent than a Disney hotel, but when you factor in food, parking fees, petrol etc. You won't be saving as much as you might think. Having said that, it's good for people who like their own space and don't want to LIVE Disney 24/7 for 2 weeks.

Disney hotels offer you the free dining option, you don't pay to park, you can limit the use of your hire car and therefore your petrol costs. I think the best thing to do if you don't mind either option is to just do the maths with all things considered. Get an idea of how much food will cost for your party, add on the parking and a tank of petrol and see what the numbers look like.

I hear what you are saying about staying onsite, better amenities all round and you don't have to factor in the same travelling time you would offsite.
We stayed at All Stars Music in 2011 with our DD who was 4 at the time, and the room was just perfect for us for 14nights. We are going next year (hopefully) and our DD will be 7 and DS 20 months and I feel for our needs on that trip the room would be too small for us plus all the things we'd have with us. Next years free dining is what keeps bringing me back to staying onsite like a PP said as everytime I run the sums, staying offsite just comes too close to Disney prices once you factor in food, parking and extras - which surprises me.

We've stayed at All Star Movies twice, with the kids being 8 and 6 and last time they were 16 and 14. No problems at all with the room size, two queen beds was fine, first time me and DW in one, kids in the other and then second time me and DS in one and DW and DD in the other. Rooms aren't huge but they are spacious enough to be comfortable, beds are good... Most Disney rooms are pretty similar the only difference as you go up the range is the room sizes and better quality fixtures and fittings and bathrooms.

Generally weekends are more expensive for flights but there are no hard and fast rules unfortunatly

Villa vs Hotel is very personal. We couldn't spend 2 weeks sharing a room with DD We like onsite so stay in a one bedroom villa at DVC resort. This gives us the best of both. We have space and facilities of a villa while being in a resort. I have no issues with either using a kitchen or laundry while there

At the end of the day you need to work out what is the best option for your family

Have you looked at maybe renting DVC points? You could get a great room in a great resort on Disney doing that. I have never done it but its something I am going to look into.

Disney vacation points. These are in the deluxe resorts but renting points will make your stay a lot cheaper than booking through WDW for example. If you look at AKL their studios can start from 11 points I think for a standard view. Fri and sat will be slightly more a night. If a renter charges $10 per point thats $110 a night compared to $$250-300 through WDW for a hotel room NOT a studio. Food and tickets on top.
When are you looking at? You have not said which month?

Owners book the points they own and there are some rooms aviable to normal visitors paying cash.

Details for the resorts can be found Here. OKW & SSR can be usually got at a discount and with free dining in the UK.
