My DD is turning 6 in September and I’m planning to surprise her with a Disney trip. Her actual birthday is mid week and my husband has a work conference in Palm Springs so Disney would be a surprise on the weekend. Last year I surprised her with BBB which she loved. I just really hate the hair options. That makes it hard for me to stomach the price. I’m bummed that the Frozen boutique closed at DTD. We will have a night free on arrival and one day at the park the next day. With all the renovation it doesn’t look like there are too many options at DTD. We did Goofy’s for her birthday last year. I was thinking we’d do Storytellers on our departure day. We’ve done most of the big dining options for entertainment packages, like BB and CC, and she never cared about any of them. Since it’s just the one day I don’t think she will want to stop for a character lunch and we’ve done the Plaza In. Breakfast before. The cake thread looks amazing but it seems silly when we can’t really use the leftovers. Any suggestions?

We miss the Frozen boutique, too! Would she be excited to get to pick out a new dress or something like that? Or you could just take her to World of Disney for a little shopping spree with a gift card or something? My daughter (she's 5) gets very excited about having her own gift card to spend. Have you done face painting? That is also one of my daughter's go-to requests for a "special day."

The Disney Dress Shop has some cute little girl dresses that match the adult ones. And it would be nice enough and practical enough for her to wear it at the park the next day. And it can be worn for other events, not like princess dresses.

I'll be back in LA next week and at the park on Sunday, the 15th. Let me know via PM if you'd like park maps. I'd be happy to send you a few :-). Hope it's a great surprise!

My friend’s 7 year old daughter was over the moon about getting her face painted last weekend. I have to say, they do a really nice job, it was very pretty and sparkly.

TBH I don't even think the castle package at BBB is worth it anymore b/c you don't get to skip the line for the royal hall. What if you let her pick out a dress at the Disney store and then did the cheap makeup BBB package? My daughter is turning 7 this month - she's done BBB twice and still asks to go. I'm not a fan of the hair either but she likes it so whatever...I think we're done with castle package though and I'll do the $50 hair and makeup thing. And I may have seen that they offer a frozen package with different hairstyles there now too (maybe since the frozen boutique is gone?)

Maybe you could let her pick out a Disney princess dress to wear and you could do her hair and makeup yourself. Or you and she could get matching dresses from the Disney Dress Shop.

We will be first time BBB patrons next month, I was originally going to do just the crown package and bring our own dress but decided to go all the way for the Castle package. Skipping the line still happens, I have friends that just did it last month, it’s just not guarenteed

Where is the Disney Dress Shop? Is it DTD? Thanks that sounds very fun!

I can’t even recall seeing face painting! Is it all over? Do they all do the same or are there different options in different places?

We started telling the kids to keep an eye out on the stuff they liked at at the end of the trip we let them choose one souvenir. It works great on cutting down the requests for stuff and they practice waiting and thinking about what they want. Unfortunately it cuts down on making it special for her birthday! It’s also worked out the last couple of years that we go in the fall and I let her choose a dress for Halloween and she gets extra wear out of it in the park. Plus I get adorable photos.

Thanks for offering a map Wonka Kid! I really appreciate it! We surprised DS with a trip to DL when he was about 4. It was so much fun! On the tram from the garage he was so excited because he thought for sure his surprise was a trip to the movies and had no idea it was his first visit to DL! I know we can’t pull it off again now that he can read. It will be interesting to see when they figure it out on the way there.

Yes, the dress shop is in DTD.

There is face painting in various locations. They advertise different face paint options in different places (for instance, by Pixie Hollow and the Matterhorn, they show off sparkly, princess-y options, by Launch Bay in Tomorrowland they show off Star Wars options, in Hollywoodland they show off Marvel options, etc.); however, they often do a wide variety (we've done butterflies at the "Star Wars" one in Tomorrowland, for instance), and they'll let you customize with different colors and things if you ask (sometimes they offer).

It's pricey for face paint ($14-20), but they'll touch it up for you if you save your receipt and it comes off somewhere (last time we did it in May, we didn't yet realize how much they'd "upped" the water level at Splash Mountain post-refurb... so, that face paint definitely needed a touch-up after we rode that!).

There’s been some amazing Pixar face painting in DCA I’ve seen on Instagram but I’m not sure if it was just for the Pixar Pier opening day or not?

When my daughter was 4, I purchased a Tinkerbell wand on amazon prior to the trip. I was able to slip the wand to Tinkerbell right before my daughter met her. Tink did an excellent job presenting the wand to my daughter, saying that there are only two in the world, and now my daughter has one. She is 10 now and still keeps the wand in a special place in her room. might want to try something like that with her favorite character.

Wow! I love that one! It sounds truly magical... well done!

Do you think that would work with other princesses too? Or slip to a handler? My kids would love that and it gives a purpose to the meet and greet!

Thanks so much! I had no idea that they would touch up the face painting! V.I.N.CENT thank you so much!! That plan is genius!! It’s so clever! I’m very excited to see if I can try something like that!

Lunasea do you know if the dress shop has more options than what’s on the website?

Probably depends on the princess :) Tink caught on pretty quick. Might need to distract the child somehow in order to pass it. "Oh look, Mickey!"

Have you tried the noon tea service at Disneyland Hotel? They might still have the pixar version of the tea going on when you go. Getting dressed up to eat mini sandwiches and desserts is always fun.
