My little boy is 4 and I am having a difficult time finding jeans that fit him correcty. He is a 4T waist but those are way too short on him. He also has 4 Slim levi brand jeans that are too short on him but both sizes fit him well in the waist. When I try 4 regular or 5 slims, the waist is just too big and when I buy the adjustable waist, the legs balloon out and it doesn't look right.

Does anyone know of a brand that I can try in a 4T or 4slim that runs long?

Thanks!

I buy larger sizes with the growth bands inside. Levi's, Old Navy have them.

I have the same problem! Carter's jeans work very well for my little guy - thankfully we have an outlet in our town so it makes it a little more affordable and the hold up so his little brother will be able to wear them as well! :goodvibes

I also like the adjustable waist but I have to be careful with these as DS4 is picky about the elastic strap to adjust the size - he doesn't like it to rub on his sides.

Oshkosh and Children's Place have also had stuff that works for him. Again, they're in the outlets here so it makes it more affordable for us.

Good luck! :goodvibes

DS has always been very tall and very light for his age.

I buy his jeans from Janie and Jack (one of gymboree's stores). They are expensive, but I usually get them on sale or buy them off eBay. And they wear really well.

They do have the adjustable waist, but they are the only ones I have seen that don't balloon out like you mentioned. I think they are cut much more slim in the legs than any other brand we have tried.

I have the same problem with my son. I've found that Wrangler brand Cargo jeans from Walmart fit him just fine. They also have the adjustable waist. When I compared these with other same size pants, the cargos are always longer.

I'm going to move this over to the Families Board where I think you'll find more moms of little boys to help you. When my DS17 was that size, he was also a slim guy but he spent most of the cool months in sweatpants and the summer shorts were just a little shorter on him that the average size 4 boys. Good luck finding something that fits! Boys' clothes were always a challenge for me.

Plain girl's jeans.
He may be telling this to a therapist someday, but the girl jeans are cut so much better for a skinny boy.
My MIL brought home some Children's Place jeans from a garage sale. They fit the Tatertot SO well, I actually went to the CP with the jeans to buy another pair. They directed me to the girl's side. These are plain jeans, no embellishments or stitching that would make you think they were gender specific. Levi's are plain too, no difference in girls or boys except the sizing.
To each their own, but it worked for us!

Oh I am so familiar with this problem. I have a skinny tall boy who HAS to have adjustable waist pants. But anyways he is a 4t and my DH and I just went shopping for him at JCPenny. Well they have 4t in the toddler section and 4t in the big boys section. We discovered that the 4t in the big boy section while a few dollars more expensive is about a full inch longer in length than those in the toddler section. I spoke to some friends about this and they said yes they have found this to be the case when they are shopping as well. Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the replies!

I went to the Osh Kosh outlet because I heard they ran long and was hoping to get him a 4T. When I went in, the saleslady told me that they were redesigning their jeans line and they had no toddler jeans at all and wouldn't be getting them in until June. Can you believe that? That is just my luck!

Anyway, I then went to Kohls hoping to find Osh Kosh jeans there and I did but only in 4 regular and they did the ballooning thing I was talking about but were the perfect length. So.........I tried on Levis in 4 regular and 5 slim. The 4R was too short and the 5S was way too big in the waist. I was just about to settle for 1 pair of the osh kosh which were not too bad until I could find something better. (His pants are that short!) My husband came back with Lee in 5S and they were a little big and a little long but not ballooning so....I have my jeans!!!! I bought 3 pairs.

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions. I am going to look into some of them because as all of you moms of boys know, it will only be a matter of time before these 3 pair have holes in the knees.

Children's Place is the place you should go to. I have 2 boys, 4T and 2T. If you don't want baggie or want them to flare, you buy the CLASSIC fit jean and not the carpenter jean. Of course buy with an adjustable waist. You need to check, i.e. have him try on, the 3 different sizes that would fall into his range. The 4T(which might be short), the size 4[(the xsmall in the boy -not toddler- sizes) which will be a bit longer], and then size 5 (small in the boy sizes). The size five should be long enough, but like I said select their classic style jean that is essentially straight leg. I hope this helps and that you haven't been there done that already. Their jeans usually go for 2 for $22, if there are no sales.

I have the same problem with my DS. I only buy his jeans from Children's Place and Old Navy because of the adjustable waist.

Have this same problem with DS4 - I buy the adjustable waist ones from Target and they seem to work best. They have a little belt/band on the inside that you cinch up and button. They don't go all "balloon-y" either... but only the ones from Target seem to work well.

Childrens Place jeans are the only ones that fit my DD who is four! They fit really well lengthwise and have the adjustment waistband. They really wear well too and are affordable:)

I was just going to post to go to Kohls and try the Lee jeans in 5S :lmao:
That's exactly what my tall, skinny ds4 wears and they fit great :thumbsup2
The regular cut jeans from The Children's Place also work for us.

You know what they say about great minds:rotfl:

The 4T Children's Place jeans he was wearing up until today were increidibly short. I think they could pass as capris and for a little boy, that is BAD! The worst part is that they fit beautifully otherwise.
I tried the 4R there back in the fall and they did the balloon thing but maybe next time I will go there and see if that has changed.

lol...

The cut I have found at Children's Place were a very straight, slim cut. All the other cuts did the balloon thing.

I will be very glad when it's time for shorts - he can still wear his 3Ts :rotfl:

The lady I spoke to at Children's Place told me that they have a slim cut but only online. Did you find yours in the store? I usually don't buy him pants online because he is so impossible to fit. Luckily, his birthday is in February, so when people asked what size he is, I told them not to buy pants, but shorts in 4T and they fit very well. My daughter is relly thin too, but she is not so tall so I don't hve these problems with her. Also, she hates jeans and lives in dresses and leggings so it makes it easier.
