Thursday 28th December - Epcot
Cant believe our holiday is nearing an end now. We seemed to have so much time at the beginning. Have to admit though (albeit reluctantly) that in some respects we are ready to go home. The kids are particularly so DD is clearly missing her friends and DS is desperate to try out his new bike. We are all sick to death of the food as no matter how hard you try it is hard not to end up with burger, pizza & chickens strips somewhere in your day and we are tiring of the breakfast options too. Also we are having a real problem with getting into and out of our hotel and have been since Boxing Day as we are on the same road as Premium Outlets so get stuck in the traffic thats headed there (had no problems at all before Xmas). It can take up to half an hour or more to drive less than a quarter of a mile and when you come to turn out/into the entrance nobody will let you in. Its really frustrating.
DS wakes up full of life and starving. I know for sure hes better when I catch him trying to read DDs text messages while shes in the shower (he likes to collect incriminating information to blackmail her with)
After a quick breakfast and a lecture to DS on not trying any funny stuff we are off to Epcot. We arrive at 9.15 and already its heaving. At least the weather is good.
We head straight to TT and get FP (mid afternoon) then do standby queue as only 30 mins anyway (actually only 20) we stroll over to The Land where FP for Soarin have already gone for the day and standby is 150mins (decide well give that a miss) The queue for Nemo is an hour (lovely but not worth that much of a wait) and even Journey with Figment is 40 minutes (again we decide not worth wait)
We decide to stroll around World Showcase. DS declares he wants to eat his way round as after 2 days of not eating he is ravenous. It breaks my heart to say I agree to buy him some chocolate in England although I do draw the line at $6 for a packet of Penguins.
On to France where we visit the Boulangerie for a Cheese croissant for DH, cheese & ham french bread melt for DS & and an apple and a strawberry tart for DD & Me.
(love this show)
We make several shopping stops as we go along buying Hello Kitty stuff in Japan, something for our study wall in America a Bhudda & some chi balls in China & a tiny skeleton band in a glass case from Mexico. DS didnt disgrace himself in Germany for once someone else beat him to it. A young girl broke some crystal in the shop and she and her family just ran off. Everyone stood there gobsmacked.
We caught the boat across the lagoon and back mid afternoon to do our FP for TT and just generally enjoyed a leisurely stroll. At the end of World Showcase we got the kids some strawberry slushies and then finished with a last ride on Spaceship Earth before heading to I Drive for a game of mini golf at Pirates Cove & dinner at the Outback
Friday 29th December - Seaworld
After our Christmas Eve washout we plan to do a double header today of Seaworld for the most part them MGM in the evening to catch Fantasmic & the Osborne lights.
The day starts well with lots of warm sun. We arrive at Seaworld early & DH & kids ride Kraken while I catch up on text messages from friends at home. We decide to miss Atlantis as everybody coming off soaked and DS is only just getting better. We head across to do one of DSs favourite things feeding the sea lions it makes us laugh as he gets chased by lots of huge birds after his fish. From there we go across to Shamu Stadium to catch the new Believe show. It starts with a very sentimental piece saluting the military and we have to applaud all existing and previous serving member in the audience who are asked to stand which makes me feel a little uncomfortable (dont get me wrong I think they are all undoubtedly wonderful people who do a great job but is a whale stadium in a theme park the place to do this?)
(DH with his lunch)
Anyway on to the show which again was overly sentimental for me and relied more on film played onto the screen than actual whale action. All in all I think the old show was better. To be honest I think the trouble is that though I like Seaworld a lot and am sure they do some great work it still sits a little uncomfortably with me as while the animals are lovely and clearly well treated I cant help thinking it would be better if they were in their proper wild habitat
On to another favourite of DSs Shark Encounter where we have to go through the tunnel twice so he can get a good look and the penguin enclosure to see them and the puffins from there we go to see Clyde & Seymour take Pirate Island. I love the pre-show mime artist very funny. We try to see the Dolphin show but it is full with no more performances till 4pm so go over to Wild Arctic stopping for ice cream on the way. There are several loudspeaker announcements as we walk round saying various shows are full and giving later times for them. We go over to see the dolphins and manta rays then head out of the park.
We leave around 3pm for a late lunch at Subway and are shocked as we exit the park to see all entrances blocked off and signs everywhere saying the park is full so no more admissions for the day. We knew by the announcements it was busy but it really didnt seem that full at all.
After a quick stop at the hotel we drive over to MGM buy snacks and head into the stadium for Fantasmic. After about half an hour it starts pouring down yet again and there are quick announcements cancelling the show and Osborne lights. For this year our efforts to catch them are just not to be. We head off for a consolation dinner at Olive Garden of soups, warm garlic breadsticks, chicken & pasta & yummy deserts of Apple Panne Dolce (like a warm apple/cinnamon bread pudding) delicious.
