Me: Scanning the weather channels to pick the best forecast (all poor)
DH: Says we may need to eat beans on toast all January if I dont stop shopping
DD: May have to resort to breaking her fingers if she doesnt put phone down
DS: Head for the hills he has Man flu
Tuesday 26th December - Universal
Our original plan had been to go to Busch Gardens today but a couple of things conspired against us. Firstly the weather was still not good very dark grey & cloudy and a rain shower before breakfast and secondly as soon as DS woke up it was clear he was not very well. He was running a fever and complaining of a sore throat etc. I put this down to a getting cold and wet a couple of times in the last few days and dosed him up on Beechams and hoped for the best.
We decided to go to Universal as it was local and didnt matter if we didnt stay long. Was shocked to see the robbing so and sos had upped the parking fee to $11 for the Christmas period (we only paid $10 week before)
In the end we headed to IOA first where it was relatively quiet and did all the usual favourites quite quickly. DSs heart not in it so we didnt stay long and skipped to Universal which was much busier. We queued Shrek then went for a lunch of pizza by which time DS could barely keep his eyes open and was burning up. It was clear he really wasnt well as for the first time all holiday he wasnt even complaining about anything. I felt so sorry for him I just wanted to cry. DH piggy backed him to the car and we went back to the hotel so he could go to bed.
We arrive back at the hotel with DS announcing he feels much better then promptly throwing up all over the bathroom floor. I put him to bed and settle down for an afternoon of TV. DH & DD decide to go to Premium Outlets for a bit of light shopping. They arrive back with very little saying it was absolute bedlam with the stores looking like they had been picked over by locusts. DS is still sleeping soundly, we do not want to disturb him so DH pops to Publix and picks up some hot chicken, bread & fruit salad for dinner.
Wednesday 27th December - Busch Gardens
At last the sun comes out!
DS wakes up feeling a little better although still very quiet and not very hungry (thats an absolute first even taking his tonsils out never stopped him eating!) hes walking round with that puppy dog feel sorry for me look which works well on his dad who always gives him lots of fuss and offers to buy him stuff - me on the other hand ... I know theres a monster in their just waiting to jump back out (seriously just in case social services are reading this I am a loving caring parent this just makes better reading this way ..... or am I?)
We have a bit of a debate as to where to go as basically anywhere we do involves a certain amount of walking around and DS still isnt right although he wants to go out. In the end we decide to go to Busch Gardens as at least there is an hours drive either way so he can rest up if he wants to.
We all wrap up warm as for the first time all holiday it is really chilly and settle down for a pleasant drive listening to Magic FM (thankfully who have now stopped playing none stop Christmas songs) while DS snoozes in the back
We arrive at about 10.30 and are directed to the overflow car park (a big grassed area) about half a mile away from the park and are then taken by coach to the park. I am a bit miffed by this when we pass the regular car park only to find it practically empty. It does work to our advantage in the end though as when we leave the park the train queue for the regular car park is huge while we jump straight on a coach and are back in our car in minutes.
We head straight for Sheikrah their newest ride which is similar to Oblivion at Alton Towers only 10 times higher! it ends going through water which doesnt soak the riders but drenches spectators. It looks fabulous if you like that kind of thing and we stand under the drop for a while. I chicken out and go off for a stroll while DH takes the kids on. The queue was about half an hour I head to meet them at the exit to discover they video the ride so I watched them have their turn (makes a novel change from ride photos you can buy it on DVD)
We get the train to Nairobi then walk to Egypt where again I sit it out while the rest of the family ride Montu. We have lunch at the Zagora Cafe (yet more chicken strips!) then take the train all around the Serengeti Plain to see the animals. We get off at Africa to do the Rhino Rally but wait is 60 minutes and attendant comes down line to say only half the safari is working so we decide to leave it and go to Congo for Kumba then on to Stanleyville for the Pirates 4D show with Eric Idle and Leslie Neilsen. Wasnt massively impressed with this it relied more on getting the audience wet than anything else for entertainment and we left quite damp.
(See told you Santa wore shorts apparantly he also vacations at Busch Gardens)
By 5.00pm it was turning really chilly so we decided to head back home DS had another snooze as we enjoyed another leisurely drive back and some Magic FM followed by dinner at Bennigans (steaks & ribs)
